WTF did I just watch.
29 February 2020
Honestly I don't really ever leave bad reviews. But this movie was a big mess. Honestly not really sure what was going on the majority of the time. There were some pretty uncomfortable parts and it was pretty cringey. The tone almost made me feel like I was watching a weird ass hallmark Christmas movie.

So Confused
7 February 2020
Came to see the reviews to try to understand what the hell I just watched. Parts of it were okay. The set was beautifully done, and the soundtrack great. But that's where it stops. I'm still trying to understand how everything ties together. Is this about consciousness? About salvaging relationships? Commercialism, production, global health, isolation/lonliness, reproduction, black market gangs, racism, sexism? I'm not quite sure because they touched briefly on all of these, but not enough to actually make sense in context. How does the puzzle fit? It felt like there wasn't a point to any of it, because there wasn't enough depth to anything. Just kinda skimmed the surface and left it hanging. There wasn't a connection between the plot points, or even chemistry between the cast. Not my favorite episode.

Very Healing
26 December 2019
I have to admit that the first time I watched this series, I couldn't get past the first episode. It left me feeling violated, angry, and feeling like there would be no hope. I tried again a few months later, after continuing to see it on my feed. I was very glad that I did.

As a survivor of sexual assault, this show ended up being very healing for me. It was very deliberate in how things were portrayed, and though at times it was hard to watch, it left me hopeful. I appreciated that everything was focused on the victims. How the events affected their lives. How the detectives interacted with and treated the victims, and how that was used as motivation to find the perpetrator. There is no way to explain how rape affects the mental, physical, spiritual aspects of survivors' lives, but I feel like this show was an EXTREMELY important springboard into opening up the conversation, and in displaying the strength it takes to go through something like this. In showing others a snippet of the aftermath of assault. And in showing survivors that they are not alone.

Very Healing
15 January 2019
At first I was hesitant to start watching this show. I am a survivor of rape and sexual assault, so I was afraid that this would be triggering for me. However it has actually been the opposite. Watching SVU has helped me heal and find closure with my past. I love that they are always actively combatting rape culture, and reminding that every one is worth a damn.

Ironic
3 December 2018
This movie is one of the worst adaptations I have ever seen. It is very clear that neither the lead actors, nor the writers even understood the message Bradbury was trying to convey. All of the symbolism and themes from the novel were thrown out of the window, and a whole new and confusing story were put in its place. I understand if they want to make book to movie adaptations, but to completely trash a work of art is insulting, and frankly sacreligious.

As a side note: The whole premis of the book is the media's involvement in affecting the general population, whether it be by inciting action, by instilling fear, by controlling political beliefs and community morals/values. It's so ironic that this move was changed so much from the book, that it actually becomes an embodiment of the book's message.
