I don't know why or how I missed this show when it was active, so I am catching up and almost through Season 3. All of the actors do a great job and their characters are developed and unique enough that they don't all blend together.
I have finally decided what it is that the characters do well and don't do well. I love the interaction between Dr. Austin and Okafor - Theo is all grown up and brings an edge to the part as well as growing into a more compassionate peer and friend. Okafor is beautifully acted - I have enjoyed watching her sense of humor and comaderie emerge. Dr. Bell was really one of the docs not to be trusted but has slowly become much more dependably honest and forthcoming.
The weakest characters to me are Dr. Hawkins and Nurse Nic. They stand alone very well but as a couple there seems to be absolutely no chemistry between them. There is no magic spark, and the romantic scenes are offputting because of it.
I enjoyed Corbin Benson as Nic's father and it was nice to see him again.
So, overall, I like the medical portion better than the character portion. Some of the story lines are a bit cliche but then they'd have to be, I guess. There are only so many ways to have plots based on illness or emergencies. And, some of the story lines are just too long to involve a whole season.
I also think watching too many episodes via streaming is the problem. This show is probably better viewed with at least a few days apart.
