A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Not too shabby.....
I am a big fan of the original, I have found memories of watching in my younger years during christmas when all the adults were having a jolly holiday. That continued thru teenage and young adulthood to pass the time spent post presents and xmas brunch but before dinner. As I got older I caught time to watch it less and less but still strive to watch once each season.
That was the long way of describing my nostalgia surrounding the original movie. Alas, I steadfastly adjusted my expectations for this sequel, after all its not the first attempt.
I can honestly say this is a good sequel, it captures some of the same vibes as original. Although at times it seems close to plagiarism on the original plot but this works well with this type of movie.
This story starts up 33 years later from the movie timeline. Ralphie's father passes away just before christmas and is returning home with his family. He is now all grown up and has a wife and two kids.
Great family movie and follows some of the same funny storylines from original.
Will it win a Oscar? Of course not. The original wasn't a masterpiece just good ol nostalgia.
30 for 30: The Greatest Mixtape Ever (2022)
worst 30 for 30 yet
Not sure what I watched, learned nothing except they have a ton of grainy footage and crappy backstory. Do yourself a favor and skip. Might as well watch and1 tape from 97'
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Above average cookie cutter Star wars writing
Seems to me the writing is too cookie cutter template, but in its defense this isn't supposed to be full blown movie. I enjoy the easter egg plot points connecting to the star wars universe, but beyond these nuggets of knowledge its borderline plagiarism.
The wild wild west shootouts were nobody can aim is irritating, would have been on the original trilogy too but I had cut it some slack back in the 80's.
Overall its not bad, entertaining but lacks depth. Which i am fairly certain wasn't the objective.
Quite obvious whatever sticks from all these branches of Star wars will become a movie, who will win?
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
Some real life drama
Good flick, sad plot. Unfortunate that small towns usa in the south is pretty consistent with this drama. I enjoyed the character development & the writing was enough to make your heartbreak. One thing for sure if you only have one family so make the best of what u got. Its all you got at the end.
1883: Boring the Devil (2022)
3 episodes now
Turning into a soap opera, the plot has slowed down to 50 head of cattle and dozen wagons crossing the same river (shooting spot not story) - time to pick up the pace.
SEAL Team: Violence of Action (2022)
Chain of command importance
Plot is starting to thickin. I foresee a few characters biting the bullet. Definitely emphasizes on why chain of command and trust are so important and fragile.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Terrible
Just when I thought a matrix movie could not be any worse then part 3, part four says hold my beer. Couldn't even finish this disappointment.
Now I understand why HBO got it same day as theaters.
The Wonder Years (2021)
Change of times.....
This show is every bit as good as original, yet half the rating. Great cast, good writing & overall great family programming.
I hope audiences and attitudes of current state of the world doesn't reflect on negative family level programming.
King Richard (2021)
All wacky helicopter parents should take notice...
Imagine that, not pushing your child to adult competition and shielding from money / corporate greed. Not the best screenplay but great moral story line. Let kids be kids.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Should have been series but still good imo
I personally thought it was good, I wasn't expecting Sopranos show level quality. That's impossible in 2 hours, but they did great job at filling in backstories from small nuggets learned from the show.
Wonder why junior is such a petty power hungry dbag? Well now u know.
Wonder what happened to Christophers father Dickie? Well.....
Wonder why Tony's mom is borderline manic depressive?
How about how Tony pivots and enters the family? Seems Dickies last decision green lights Silvio to give Tony a shot, no pun intended.
I thought all of the actors that portrayed major characters from the show did a very good job, mannerisms, dialogue, etc
Hopefully this is going to launch a new show to continue this plot and origin story farther along.
Long story short if you go into this movie expecting character development and a complete origin story for a show that aired for over a decade you will be dissatisfied/disappointed.
Ratings and reviews giving this 1-4 ratings is absurd. Just as absurd as expecting a two hour movie to award winning decade long series.
American Gods (2017)
great writing depth / story
Albeit slow, its character development is great. The story telling pieces intertwined with agenda playing out history like a broken record is the core, at times almost cliche but these days cliche is hard theme to sell.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: A Dark Quiet Death (2020)
neat story arc on never ending game
I thought it was setting up how MQ was able to sell to studio. Sorta soup to nuts the pillars of MQ's inception.
Upload (2020)
b.i.n.g.y
B.i.n.g.y and bingy was his watchmode.
must see tv for all my nerds
Hawaii Five-0: I ho'olulu, ho'ohulei 'ia e ka makani (2020)
Possible deeper plot line else utter nonsense
I am in the minority of enjoying this episode, I feel like the Danny plot line is and will be important. Is there a chance miss stranger lives? It would not be out of the question. Unlikely? yeah, but real talk a puncture wound bleed slowly who knows if it nicked or damaged a organ, she could have been critical due to blood loss and pass out with pulse so weak neck finger test is false positive.
Am I reaching? probably.... I just can't fathom this show dedicating a whole episode surrounding this plot.
Combine all of this with zero scenes of stranger getting emergency triage & Danny walking the trail of tears it makes a lot of sense. Cookie cutter technique in TV Hollywood to bait and switch mixed with deep emotional theme/history.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 5: The Gunslinger (2019)
Going downhill fast
With only two episodes left and lack of any plot progression I am worried. hopefully it gets back on track next episode
Silicon Valley: Blood Money (2019)
not sure why the hate
I thought this was funny af. I was state raised, you think I am afraid to catch a case.
Jared character is hilarious. story is winding down to conclude the series so I can see some repetition plot wise, but I watch for the comedy and all the goody stuff computer nerds do.
