One Lane Bridge (2020)
I guess they went there and then doubled down.
I guess the gay bashing, not once, but twice for good measure was justified in the end. I mean, who else would be the killer? Hey, we had a reason for being so mean to the gay man. We should be grateful that they didn't go with the gay panic trope, though. Then to further insult the character, they have him commit suicide because that's what the gays do. I hope all New Zealand isn't all so homophobic because this village sure seems that way. Half the village had to get in a gay slur. Anyway, I think the story could have been done in five episodes. It was hitting the same notes over and over. They left a bunch of loose threads, so a second season must of been planned.
The Salisbury Poisonings (2020)
Tracy, what have you done?
I did enjoy learning the story, and the performances were fine. However, when I was done, I had questions about, Tracy, the public health director. She's our main character, but I really had no idea what her job entails. Maybe they could have added, at least a few, examples of Tracy performing some functions of the job. It was a disservice to the real life person portrayed because the only thing they showed was her distraught, stressed and void of confidence. She was overworked, but I never saw her work. She would show up somewhere and just looked wrecked. If her job was to show up and look wrecked at her job, she was excellent. As a bonus, when at home, she looked wrecked there too.
From Scratch (2022)
Where's Sicily?
I've only seen the first episode, so I could only base my review on that. I just couldn't take it any further. I'm not into these Hallmark Channel type of romances, but I wanted to see some Sicilian scenery. The description says, Sicilian man, but he's Florentine. I'm a bit thrown by a narrative and behavior of a young twenty-something, but she's in her forties. I also can't figure out what time period this is with all the corded and cordless phones. Reading the synopsis of the next episode, it appears that might be all we get of Italy. Anyway, this story seems like a generic romance that Hallmark churns out by the handfuls.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Kinda embarrassing
In the first episode, when Larry, Moe and Curly start chasing after precocious little Leia, I had no idea that would end up the mission statement for the series. Then in episode two, we have Obi-Wan chasing after precocious little Leia because episode one didn't give enough precocious. Also, I think Obi-Wan might be sundowning; he sure seems old and bored with all this. This show is really annoying with all the dumb behavior from all the characters.
Kimi (2022)
I wish the bad guys were smarter
Our protagonist is working from home, in her 4,000 sq ft loft, with a job that barely would pay minimum wage. She is not only agoraphobic, but she's also intolerable to watch. She seems to annoy everyone with her idiosyncrasies, but she's cute with her blue hair, so I guess she's actually adorable. I was really rooting for the bad guys halfway through, however they seemed to be the dimwits from Home Alone, so stupidity ensues. Everyone involved with this production should be absolutely ashamed. Unless, you were paid well for your soul.
The Wild Life (1984)
At least the casting director showed up for work.
This movie was quite hard to get a hold of, but the cast and writer I figured it couldn't so terrible. It was that terrible. This was a horrible attempt to recapture some of the Fast Times charm. This had no charm at all. I would never want to spend 30 seconds with any of these people. They're either boring, stupid or jerks with most being all three. I would have given this a score of 2, but I needed to compensate for the delusional raves.
Another Life (2019)
I was looking forward to this, but...
I can watch low budget sci fi and and enjoy it. However, this show seemed like they went out of their way to fail. I could only watch the first episode. I would like to offer my condolences to everyone involved in this production. The high schoolers that wrote and produced this, don't worry, it gets better. Props for getting Katee, Tyler and Selma. You owe them big. I don't know how this train wreck could have happen, but this accident had major casualties. Everyone aspect of this production was a failure.
The Kettering Incident (2016)
Unsolved mysteries
This was like Memento meets Twin Peaks meets Annihilation without the needed fine tuning. Our main character, Anna, has periods of memory loss, but it's not explained. Most of the time she wandering without reason. An unsatisfactory murder mystery. There seems to be a supernatural element or are we to believe the radiation is responsible with unrealistic results. I just finished this last night, and I can't remember who killed the girls. I know one of them was solved, but I don't know if the other one was.
This should have been 2 episodes shorter. I can only assume they planned on 2nd series to explore the remaining unsolved mysteries. Since this was made 2 years ago, I doubt the story will have a conclusion.
