Smiling Friends (2020)
Disappointed :/
I really wanted to like this show. I saw all the "best of" clips on TikTok and from what I saw, it looked like it was gonna be rather enjoyable. I watched all of season one and a little bit of season two and I can safely say that it just is not funny to me in the slightest. I didn't even know what the jokes were supposed to be. Like are we laughing at the suicidal guy and the character pouring one out for his dead best friend? I didn't get what it was that I was supposed to find funny. Also the Brazil episode was uncomfortable to me because hearing people argue is not my idea of a good time.
This of course is all personal opinion but I just really wanted to like it more. I really like Pim, I think he's just a cute and funny little guy. I gave two stars extra just for him. Pim's great.
But yeah man, I dunno it just was so unfunny to me.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: The Whole World Is Watching (2021)
Jaw dropping
I've really liked this show and where it's heading for the past three episodes but this? THIS?? There wasn't a moment that my eyes weren't glued to the screen. That opening scene in Wakanda was truly something to behold and when Sam was talking Karli? The lines are blurry and there is no good and evil in the world and it's so refreshing to see them showing that. So many CBMs revolve around this idea of good guys vs. Bad guys but that really is a concept of the past. It's amazing to see these characters like this and I just cannot commend the cast and crew enough. Rip my heart out what don't you, so good.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
A perfect ending
A great way to tie up everything. I thought it was pretty fitting and kind of ironic that Dean dies from a bodily wound and not from some monster, it reminds that he was just a guy and I love that. I'm glad Sam got to go and live out his life like he always wanted to. Also Cas and Jack didn't need to be there, they were there in spirit and yes even though they're important characters, at the end of the day it started with the brothers and it needed to end with them. I wouldn't want anything more or less, it was a perfect ending. Thank you, Supernatural for being a truly great show.
Supernatural: Inherit the Earth (2020)
Pretty satisfying
I know it's not the end just yet but I felt like this was a satisfying way to end the season and problem at hand. I thought that Jack becoming god was a good way to keep him alive and give him a purpose. I thought the Avatar:TLA ending of taking away Chucks power but not killing him was a good way to end that story as well. And to everyone saying that Cas should've come back.....you saw how he left right? When you have an exit that emotional and heartfelt, to have him come back would erase all of that. I feel like this episode was to get the heavy hitters out of the way and next episode will give us the conclusions and finality we need.
Supernatural: The Rupture (2019)
Cas was something else
Belphagor riding around in Jack's body is uncomfortable to begin, with but seeing the way Cas reacts to this is so heartbreaking to me. The way he acts around him and doesn't look at him and then finally, the way he kills him. Misha's acting was something else in this episode. Not only did Cas have to hold Belphagor down to kill him but the fact that he had to pull the "no don't, it's me!" card. This moment was hard enough for Cas and you're going to throw that in there too? And just the way he restrains himself a moment before killing him and then not just smiting the demon but burning up the body entirely. God that scene just kills me. Jack was practically Cas' son and he loved him so much and it just makes these episodes with Belphagor in it so hard to watch. The rest of the episode was good but Dean was such a d*** at the end so it looses points.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Really effected me
I don't what is was about this film but like for a while after, I just felt like sick to my stomach. It had such visceral imagery that only needed to be shown for less than a second and it was those scenes that stuck with me. Also seeing these actors that I hold so dear to my heart in these roles makes me feel sick. I know that you need to separate the actor from their work but it was hard for me to do that here. Really great story nonetheless. I was wondering how the couple would weave back into the story again and I think that was done really well. I was so nervous for that last part of the movie, I had no idea what was going to happen. I'm happy with the ending. It's not often that movies leave a lasting impression on me and this one definitely did.
The Midnight Gospel (2020)
Can't pay attention
So I really love the animation in this, it's so aesthetically pleasing and fun to look at. The "podcast" is also pretty interesting. But I wish the two were separated somehow. I can't pay attention to what they're saying because I'm focused on what's going in the animation or vice versa. Also aside from a few cursory nods, what they're talking about has absolutely nothing to do with what you're watching. Maybe if the visuals lined up with the dialogue or the visuals were a metaphor for what is being said it would be cool. I gotta say I'm really disappointed at how this ended up. I was really excited. I just feel like we're half assing two things.
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Not what I was hoping for?
The trailers for this movie made me really nostalgic and gave me some feels (which was the point) but the movie itself wasn't all that great or moving for me. First the acting from some characters was just not there and the plot was sort of all over the place. It felt like it was trying to shove everything into one movie so people wouldn't complain that something didn't happen. I just wasn't feeling it. Also Lucy was unnecessary. I will say that in the ways of effects it was pretty ok, Pikachu was cute but it really just comes down to the fact that Pokémon we're not meant to be live action. I really did want some nostalgia factor or something to at least to make me feel but I guess not.
Dumplin' (2018)
A simple feel good movie
When it comes to Netflix, you never know what you're going to get. I took a shot in the dark on this one and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It's self contained, has a good message, is simple and sweet and hell, Dolly Parton songs. I recommend for a nice night in.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Quite the Rollercoaster
I knew this movie was going to be good going into it but I never could've imagined that this was going to be the outcome. I'm rather partial to Marvel movies and genuinely enjoy most of them but I think that this insane, wild and amazing crossover was the best of all of them. It was hilariously funny and tragically sad. I loved every minute of it.
Ingrid Goes West (2017)
Not what I expected, in a good way.
I found this movie on Hulu and normally I don't bother too often with "straight to DVD" titles but I have a soft spot for both Aubrey Plaza and things written in neon. Watching this movie for the first time, I really had no idea what was going to happen, was Ingrid going to kill Taylor and take her place? Would she try to convince Taylor's loved ones that Ingrid was in fact Taylor? I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome overall. Very nice cinematography and set design, reminiscent of Neon Demon, Drive or San Junipero. The soundtrack was also another great part of this movie. Those portrayed as social media icons may be a bit over the top but I think they embody what social media personalities are. Great movie that shows the downfall of a stalker. Also just as an aside, I'm actually very happy she didn't die in the end, it was a predictable ending to begin with but I'm glad she was saved after all.
Ready Player One (2018)
What a complete disappointment
"Ready Player One", the book, was beautiful and heartbreaking and had an outstanding plot and story filled with elaborate plans and hours of research paying off in the form of success. "Ready Player One", the movie, is the complete opposite. Not only is the entire plot almost entirely different, the visuals and acting weren't even that good to make up for it. NONE of the quests are the same, NONE of the characters are portrayed correctly and I'm just so disappointed that Ernest Cline's work was interpreted so poorly. I know that fitting a story so rich in details into such a small amount of time can be difficult but they could've kept at least SOME of the actual story in it! It's like the writers saw the cover of the book, flipped through the first couple of pages and then said "yeah ok I get the gist of it". And what a corny and played out ending, "Everyone's happy! The bad guy gets shoved into a cop car! Everyone is alive and well and our two leads make out on a couch!". The end wasn't supposed to be happy but more a bittersweet victory. In the book, Daito dies. It could've been so good and I'm truly disappointed that this was the end result. (Side note: his name is Shoto, not "Sho").
Final Space: Chapter Six (2018)
Just...Tragic...
This episode was by far the saddest one yet. From the backstory of Avocato and his relations with the lord commander and being faced with having to kill his son to literally giving up his life for him in the end. Usually the episodes have had comedic elements to lighten the mood but this was just a rollercoaster of good and bad. Quinn realizing that Gary isn't such a bad guy and then successfully saving Little Cato was so touching but my mind during the last five minutes was just "There's a bomb! It's on his back! Get. It. Off!!". That final scene of seeing Little Cato literally watch his father die right after being reunited with him killed me. I really hope he's not dead but at the same there's a high probability he is........Great episode all in all. You know it's a good series when after only six episodes you get that attached to the characters and when they get killed...it hurts.
Rick and Morty: The Ricklantis Mixup (2017)
Unbelievable 11/10
I never write reviews on here but holy crap. This episode was the best episode of a TV show I have ever seen. So much depth and story set into a 22 minute time span. From police Morty being surprisingly bada**to the whole evil Morty complex. It was spectacular. When it's finally revealed that evil Morty is the president and his music starts playing I literally got shivers. I was frozen. All of the people who you seen through the episode are all dead. I was in disbelief that a show could do that to me in that short of a time. No words. Amazing show👏🏽👏🏽
