Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003)

Decent movie let down by poor acting

I found the cartoon characters in this movie to be spot on and very funny. I think it was let down by truly pathetic acting, in particular from Steve Martin (way OTT). His scenes seemed to drag out and were painfully unfunny. There were some memorable moments like shaggy and scooby chatting with Matthew Lillard about his portrayal in the Scooby Doo movies. And I thought it was great to see Foghorn Leghorn get a better role. That character is totally underused. It's hard to know where they can go now with this sort of thing. The movie suffered from being too self aware. I think because Roger Rabbit was heavily based on the cartoon world, it allowed the characters to shine, because the real people were purely supportive. I get the impression nowdays that famous actors do a serious amount of yelling "Pick Me, Pick Me!" when it comes to these things and so you get endless cameos of little substance. I really wish we could see a fully animated series of cartoons in the style of the originals, but they probably wouldn't be financially viable.

Embarrassing and hideous

The major concern with this show (apart from the lack of any originality or plot) is the fact that there are too many characters and machines to get to know. And they all seem to be very much the same. Synthesized voices and (less than) witty comebacks. They are all poor cousins of K.I.T.T The effects are so cheap it feels like it could be the another version of Power Rangers. The actors are pretty but talentless and if a chatty Land Rover is your idea of entertainment this is right up your street. For me it couldn't be anymore uninspiring. Some of the thin plots linked to Michael Knight as if that was going to entice you to stay tuned. But even the cheese-meister that is Hasselhoff, wouldn't bring himself to guest star on this crud.

Shouldn't have got past the pilot stage.
