Céline (2008)
Too Many Mistakes...Possible Spoilers
This is coming from a Celine Dion fan since 1990 and her first US album.
The actress playing Celine in the later years Christine Ghawi did do a fantastic job of portraying Celine as did Erico Colantoni playing Rene Angelil. These actors jobs were the only thing right and worth seeing.
It was obvious that the writers of this did not do enough research into Celine's life. All it would have required is reading her autobiography. The ending was very rushed leaving out huge gaps in her career and jumbling so much together that it left me shaking my head. Not to mention some very important details that were either left on the cutting room floor or omitted completely. It is no wonder why this movie was This movie is really geared more toward a casual fan. For them it would be an interesting watch just to really see where she started from.unauthorized by Celine.
For true Celine fans I would actually say give this movie a pass. There are just too many discrepancies to fully enjoy the movie without wanting to yell the errors at the TV.
Highlander: The Source (2007)
Could Have Been Much Worse
As an avid fan of Highlander since the first movie I have to say this movie could have been worse. It wasn't the best I have ever seen but neither was it the worst. (Bill Maher in the "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death...now that was bad. This for me was a far cry though from End Game which has been my favorite movie in the franchise.
So many people fail to realize that the TV show changed a lot about the history of the Immortals so nothing is going to really mesh with the story lines of the original movies. To me they were there own entity and almost completely separate from the TV show. So many people have their own ideals as to how Immortals should be that they feel their is "Only One" way for the history. I tend to be more open minded. I would rather have this movie and a look at a what if than have nothing from the franchise at all.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
I found the look of the movie to be very gritty and dark, which I believed worked well for the story line.
While The Guardian wasn't the worst villain of the franchise (Mario Van Peebles) he neither was the best.
The death of Joe Dawson did not surprise me although it did sadden me, but I saw where they were going with the story. They would need a major angle for Duncan to take up the fight for The Source and losing Joe was that push.
The character of Reggie was welcome comic relief and it made me miss Richie who would have been the best option for the role had they not killed him off unjustly in Season Five.
The character of Methos was the same as ever a welcome foil for Duncan's character. I think the only real reason for Methos ever wanting to be the One is because he was the oldest. For him it would just be another notch on the gun or sword so to speak.
The producing for this kind of movie was adequate, with no real stars other than Adrian and partially for Peter Wingfield. You can't expect big budget without a big budget stars. There was actually more in the regard of producing than what I had expected.
The directing was absolutely horrible and my first real complaint and the reason why this movie wasn't for me a 8 or 9. The photography left you feeling dizzy as they frantically panned for shots. I truly believe the director phoned in his cues and never left his bed. With no direction to speak of thank goodness for Adrian Paul and Peter Wingfield knowing what they were doing behind the camera otherwise this movie may never have seen the light of day.
The character of Anne to me left so many holes that it felt like Swiss Cheese. Other than she was Duncan's wife, she got visions and fed the homeless that is all you got from her. This paired with absolutely no explanation for Kate's death made me detest this character that they tried to make a holy vessel for "The One Child." The editing is my third and final complaint. Evidently it was done by a high school film group and not by professionals. The Blair Witch Project was better edited than this. The final montage was a poor way of trying to look back in time and eat up minutes to flesh out the ending. It could have and should have been completely left out. In its spot they should have done something more between Duncan and Anne to have better understood that history.
All in all I can see the ending and why having a child for an Immortal would be the most precious thing. To me it seemed to be saying that this was the Source that would chance the world, this child. Though I wish there would have been some answers as to how Immortals began rather than the old story of they just always was and they came to be just by Poof! here's a baby he will be an Immortal.
