Scary Tales: The Return of Mr. Longfellow (2003)
Horror's not usually my thing...
I borrowed this from a friend who has a small role in the film. He said it is going to be released later this year.
I'm not a very big horror fan, and haven't really watched many films that are considered independent.
That in mind, I did enjoy this. Not as much as the original Scary Tales (I borrowed both movies), because this one is so fast paced. The first one took it's time going from one story to the other. This one is literally one joke after the other. Plus, it's a little bloodier than I usually like to watch (the original only had a few bloody scenes).
If you decide to get this, the third story is the best one. Joe Estevez is really good in that one.
The best thing about these movies is that they aren't as scary as the title implies. Although, if campy or over-the-top horror movies aren't your thing, I would avoid.
7.5 out of ten.
Dudley Do-Right (1999)
Dudley Done Wrong!
This was one of my favorite cartoon characters growing up.
And while the movie tries to catch some of the flavour of the show and quirky humor, Brendan Fraser is all wrong in the lead role. His doesn't do Dudley's voice, and they didn't even add a large chin! I usually enjoy Sarah Jessica Parker (being the fan of Sex and The City I am), but even she was kind of wasted in this movie.
Alfred Molina was a good Snidely Whiplash, but aside from him, there really isn't too much to speak of.
Only Eric Idle's cameo is in line with the humor from the show. His scenes alone make some of this worth watching.
I haven't seen the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie, but I hope it's better than this!
Men in Black II (2002)
Fun sequel
People like to trash this movie, but I found it to be enjoyable, despite feeling more tired than the original.
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are great in this. And a lot of the jokes seem to be in line with the original.
The best scenes are a kung-fu fighting Rip Torn (from nowhere), the return of the dog from part 1 and anything involving Laura Flynn Boyle. She's a hoot to watch.
I didn't really like the time subplot, as things tended to feel a little forced.
Still, it's worth your time.
The opening is great as well, with lots of big laughs and a great cameo by Peter Graves (one of my favorites).
I'm hoping for a Men in Black 3!
