Anaconda (1997)
Mindless Fun
I had a depressing night and when I woke up the next day I wanted to clear my head. Anaconda helped me. It was very therapeutic.
My Cousin Vinny (1992)
Fred Gwynne's Swan Song
Absolutely adore this film. The writing is top notch and still stands the test of time after 28 years. Fred Gwynne's deep drawl and facial expressions just kill me, his performance here was a parting gift.
Macon County Line (1974)
Max Baer Jr's Masterpiece
I've only seen Max Baer Jr in this and the Beverly Hillbillies - and while I love that show for its nostalgia - I have to admit it was refreshing seeing him take a turn here. His quiet reservation fades explodes into pursuit mode and it was quite tense. A slow burner of a film. I usually hate remakes but I'd love to see a modern take on this story and setting.
America: The Story of Us (2010)
Very Interesting Documentary.
If the History Channel can produce a 1000 hour program about United States history, that still would not be enough. We would have to start from Columbus for great detail but the show isn't about the discovery of land, it is about the concept of a free nation and the choices people made to survive. This documentary was made to show how the American people kept moving on from the turning points that shaped the "concept" which was built on blood and struggle.
Sure they missed some key historical turning points but the show kept me interested enough that I found myself researching them online after watching an episode.
Liev Schreibers narration is great as well.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Even Before The Special Edition... Still The Best Movie Ever!!!
This is my number one movie of all time. It has a critical and personal touch to my heart. The Best Star Wars movie ever is also the Best Movie ever!! Right from the visuals, dialog and pace. Has anybody said that this installment (of the previous trilogy) has the best sound a picture quality? Someone was doing something right when they filmed this. Darth Vader has never looked better in a menacing way (I have not seen Revenge Of The Sith so I am not sure). Pay attention to the scenes when he is looking out to the stars for a hint of Luke. Man, I can keep going for hours on this one! The Hoth scenes were so goddamn priceless. Those Imperial Walkers scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. The Special Edition was a tough call, but I do have to say of all the last trilogy, this one had the best restoration. If you can, see the original cut of this, it was the way it was meant to be seen, with no tampering! Every time I tell people that "Empire" is my favorite Star Wars movie, they just look at me with disbelief and say "... but Return Of The Jedi had a lot more action scenes..." I cringe.
