Mr. Right (2015)
An Unrecognized Good Movie
This movie starts out funny and the fun goes on until the end. This movie likely took parts of different movies and spliced them together. I saw similarities of Grosse Pointe Blank, Knight and Day, and Killers. I am certain there are more that escapes me at the moment. Nonetheless, this is a fun and funny movie. I would suggest the intellectual to place their brain on pause in order to enjoy it. If you can't do that, then avoid the movie all together. It is not theatrical masterpiece. It is an escape from the everyday life. To address the actors in this movie; Kendrick was absolutely perfect in her role. Rockwell was flat at times, but it can be forgiven for his good parts. Just a good ole time.
The Bronze (2015)
Hope is no Bernadette
Hope is the name of the character that Melissa Rauch plays in "The Bronze". She plays a gymnast that is ripe for the gold until she injures herself, ultimately ending her career. Hope is an unsocialized product of home schooling by a single parent. In order to motivate Hope, her father dangles a false monetary reward to train an up and coming gymnast.
This movie was difficult to watch for me as I am accustomed to seeing Melissa play Bernadette in The Big Bang Theory. Their characters are as different as night and day. Watching her play this role was similar to watching Lauren Graham in Bad Santa. In fact, the makers of The Bronze must have had the movie Bad Santa in mind when making it because Melissa was a female version of Billy Bob Thornton's role. If you are a Bernadette fan, then stay away from this movie.
Aloha (2015)
Terrible
This movie was a cinematic mess. The movie was disorganized and filled with subplots. There really wasn't a hard plot. If you want to be pulled in several directions without a destination, then this is the movie for you. There was one neat foreshadowing scene that led up to an interaction between Brian Gilcrest, played by Bradley Cooper, and Woody Woodside, played by John Krasinski. This scene and the scene between Brian Gilcrest and Grace, played by Danielle Rose Russell, near the end were the only redeeming quality to the film; otherwise the movie would have received one star. Do yourself a favor and wait until its been released on DVD for about a year before giving it a look. Caution: you may still regret it.
Let's Be Cops (2014)
WoW
Don't misinterpret the wow; it was not the good kind. I think most have stated that most of the "funny" parts were shown in the trailer and that is true, but the worst part is when they don't show a part of the movie that was shown in the trailer. That happens in this movie. They reel you in to see the movie based on the trailer and what is shown in the trailer didn't get shown on the big screen. It is just down right criminal and we keep paying for it and they are laughing at us all the way to the bank.
I have sworn off professional sports because they are such opportunists and have spoiled the tradition of the game. It is getting really close to being the same for Hollywood. The only redeeming part of this movie is the end; which is quite climatic, but past that it is a mediocre movie at best. Place it at the end of your "to see" DVD list.
Deadfall (2012)
So, How Does it End?
Deadfall was a good movie overall, but the end leaves you to figure it out on your own. The movie is typical in a lot of ways. The bad guy gets killed and two people fall in love. It's a shame that poetic license turned it all to shambles in the end. If you are a person who places a lot of weight on the way a movie ends, then this one is not for you. If the ending is something that you like to write yourself, then this movie is ideal for you.
The acting was up and down in quality, but it didn't detract from the movie. It won't be the most terrible movie of all time, and is worth a look; if you go in with the understanding that the ending is going to keep you guessing. On a scale of 1-5, I would rate it a 3. I am a person who does not wish to write my own ending. If you are going to make a movie, then answer all the question people will ask. That is just how I feel. If you plan to take a look, enjoy!
Horrible Bosses (2011)
A Mildly Funny Movie
I would have to say that this isn't a terrible movie, but it wasn't great either. There was a chuckle here and there. It is one of those movies that you will absolutely love or horrendously hate. I am just the exception to the rule when I say I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it.
The movie was a "forced humor" comedy. You know the kind where they try too hard to make it funny. There were one or two genuinely funny parts, but for the most part, a smile was all that was warranted.
The characters were a plus to the film. The acting was decent. Kevin Spacey did a great job playing a villain. Jennifer Aniston was convincing as a promiscuous, domineering boss. Jason Bateman played a somewhat emotionless, monotone role, but it fit his character. Charlie Day's voice was a cross between Edward Burns and Bob Goldthwait. I personally think that he was the best actor in the movie. Jason Sudeikis was unconvincing as a lady's man.
If you have nothing better to do and you want to got to the movies and they have the same dismal choices they have for the past three years, then maybe it's worth a look.
Chasing Christmas (2005)
Delightfully pleasant
I like this twist offered on the take of "The Christmas Carol". It is a refreshing change from the normal Christmas movie. It was touching, funny, and sentimental. It offers you a message of the importance of family without the usual archaic bore. Despite how Tom Arnold became to be known, he still delivers a believable performance. Leslie Jordan gives an outstanding performance. Andrea Roth was just adorable. The cast is above average in their roles. If you want the standard old stuff usually offered up for Christmas movies, then this is not the film for you. If you want something different and unexpected, then you can't miss.
