Creepshow (1982)
HA!
Spoiler****
"Just tell it to call you Billy"
That part gets me everytime.
Agnes of God (1985)
Agnes of dramatics
It always amazes me when I finally see a movie that got so much regard when I was a kid and find it to be, well, silly. SPOILERS...........
It's hard to believe Jane Fonda's Dr would tell a stranger, an emotionally disturbed young lady, whom shes only known for what, a few days, "I love you like God loves you" even if her backstory explains a little tiny bit about why she's so stuck on this case. And kinda why she's being so motherly. Although having had an abortion doesn't automatically mean that down the road the woman will latch on to the first "kid" she gets a little close to. But that's all we are told, she had one due to a bad marriage, but nothing else is said regarding her current feelings on the matter. Her mother who's in a home with dementia, waxes nostalgic about her chosen favorite the dead daughter, while confusing Fonda for her, and talks of her "bad" child not realizing she's actually talking to her and not her other child. This explains a little of how Fonda can understand Tilly's abusive childhood but we're never told more than one comment in one scene. I guess since I didn't grow up catholic and only know a little (my mother and grandmother were) about it, it's possible I'm missing something. While all the actors did a good job, it could feel overly dramatic at times. And I felt like we needed more to feel as passionately. Then there's the mother superior who changes her feelings toward Fonda with no explanation shortly after we're given a long scene of dialogue with them appearing to bond at the end. Maybe that was intentional, to throw us off? The absolute worst part was at the end, sensitive music plays, Fonda's voice over is telling us what became of everything after the trial, and then Tilly's shown releasing a dove in a bell tower. What became of the rapist?? No one bothered to find out who raped a helpless, emotionally unstable, horrificly abused as a child, nun? A rape that culminated in a birth and murder because they chose a victim so unstable she believed it was an immaculate conception and wanted to "give it back to god"? Were we supposed to be left questioning if it really was an angel who raped and impregnated her? That they didn't pursue it because shes so fragile? Or shrug off that it would mean the sickos out running free and focus only on the semi happy ending for Agnes? To be fair I'm not sure if the word "rape" even comes up in the entire movie. I just saw it and can't remember anything that stands out. If it did it wasn't treated as anything very concerning, that a rapist attacked a nun in her convent. I do remember the priest joking about his inability to "chase" a nun so young who would also have to be very patient, when questioned if he could be the culprit. Maybe this was made for religious viewers, although for that to be the case a nun killing her own baby seems like quite a shocking, sensitive topic to target that audience. But it would explain the very soft touch given to this type of subject matter.
Songland (2019)
Yaaaawwn
****Possible spoilers***** Total borefest! Only watching paint dry could be more painful. I don't know, maybe I'm jaded after having been married to a guy in a band, and still feeling the long hours spent waiting while they collab and put together a song. Over and over and over and ove.... again. Maybe this show is lacking excitement for anyone but those personally tied up in the outcomes. It just starts to grate when they keep singing the same tune again and again, but this time with a (WOW!) different pace or with a (EXCITING!) word change. Or maybe it's just very very boring because the pace is slo____w. There's no real emotional reward because we never feel much for the contestants, some are already pretty well off with their own recording studios no less. I guess I like it when it's some poor kid tryin to catch a break at all. And we know the pop stars gonna choose someone at the end, so we never feel like anything can go sideways, like the stars going to up and storm out in disgust. It's not that kind of show yet it's still Hollywood'ed up with a phoney veneer. Where you know everythings been edited out of portraying anything real and all done up to perfection level fakery. This could be more entertaining considering I've witnessed inked and pierced up hardcore rockers throw diva tantrums during the creative process that would put to utter shame all of the "explosive scene" outtakes from any given Rich Bored Cosmetically Deformed Housewives and Only Here So I Can Be On 1 Good Morning America & 1 Cover Of People Magazine fake marriage shows that I've been subjected to over the years. But as of now it's on later in the evening and I started to fall asleep both times I gave it a chance. Atleast the trash shows like American Idol and The Voice were partly entertaining because of dramatics, and funny thanks to the those who came on and made a fool of themselves. Plus they both had the whole Simon Cowell type judges with the "you're horrible" type nonsense. The only time I used to watch either of those shows was for the auditions, and only for all the above mentioned. This has none of that, and in fact is the total opposite with politeness and decorum. Save for laughing at people for their singing/songs, which I personally don't enjoy unlike my ex, this is not fun or entertaining. Can I add this is an Adam Levine project and from what I can gather "explains everything".
