Late Night (2019)
Disappointing
This wasn't a total flop, but the laughs were very few and far between all of the social justice messages, specifically those aimed against white men.
Emma Thompson is one of my favorites, but this part is so far beneath what she deserves as an A-List actress.
Mindy Kaling and John Lithgow are also very talented actors and deserving of much better roles.
Movies are supposed to be an entertaining escape, not a lecture. It's hard to focus on the characters and storyline when you're attention is constantly being forced to acknowledge an actor's race or gender, or any inequities, whether real or perceived.
The Hunt for the Chicago Strangler (2021)
The title is deceiving.
True crime is something we enjoy watching in our home, but this program has very little to do with the investigation and really doesn't focus on the women who lost their lives. Instead, it's just a lot of people bellyaching about how the whole world is against them. Who are the real victims here?? What a disgrace.
Undercover Underage (2021)
If you have young children, this is a MUST WATCH!
This program is uncomfortably eye opening. Thank goodness my kids are all adults. I can't imagine how scary it is to have young children in this world with the amount of online predators out there, just lying in wait to do unthinkable horrors to innocent and naïve kids. The tricks, the lies, and the cunningness of the perpetrators is downright terrifying. If you have young kids with access to the internet or a smart phone, this is a must watch. Thank God for SOSA and other non-profit organizations who put their members' safety (and sanity) on the line to help rid our communities of these sickos.
Haunted Hospitals (2018)
Interesting, but.....
Programs that have the actual witnesses tell their stories are my favorite. But the over-the-top dramatizations and "gotcha!" moments to make viewers jump is so unnecessary. A good ghost story doesn't need to be embellished. And what is with the **INCREDIBLY LOUD** background music/effects?!? It completely drowns out the dialogue, and is more annoying than creepy. Tone it down and get rid of the Halloween screampark getups.
True Life: Crime (2020)
This is a good program, but too much police bashing.
I'm new to this show, so I've seen just a few episodes. In the first two that I watched, I didn't notice the anti-police comments. But the program definitely wants the viewers to know their opinion of law enforcement...to the point it's mentioned numerous times throughout the show. The police were incompetent; the officers didn't care; evidence was ignored or disregarded...etc. We the viewers are intelligent enough to form our own opinions, and labeling all law enforcement as "bad" is irresponsible. And as a "journalist," the host should be held to a higher standard of reporting and represent ALL sides of the story, not just the one that underscores his own feelings.
Kindred Spirits (2016)
Interesting, but so hard to hear with the "background" music/affects.
I'm a skeptic, but I find these types of programs interesting. The issues I have with this one is the "background" music and sound affects. They literally drown out the dialogue. And when Amy and Adam are listening to the digital recordings...? Forget it. It's like a radio stuck between two stations, with one being a bad Halloween soundtrack. Tone it down folks!!
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
Disappointing.
This had so much potential. I love creepy (not gory or shocking) ghost movies, but this just fell flat, and the chills and spook factor you'd expect from a paranormal movie were really disappointing. I found myself hating almost all of the characters.... Him, for being such a sleaze, and her for being a total idiot. These actors deserved a far better director and writer for their talents. In the end, I was actually mad that I wasted my time watching it.
More Beautiful for Having Been Broken (2019)
Parents be warned. This is NOT a family movie.
The folks responsible for this film used Cale Ferrin as bait to lure unsuspecting viewers into their trap. This is definitely NOT a family friendly film.
Good Witch (2015)
No longer "family friendly" entertainment.
I've watched Good Witch since the first movie aired. The shows have always been good, clean family friendly programming...until this newest season. Time to change the rating from PG to TV-MA. What the heck happened???
Episode 3 of Season 7 will be the last one this household will watch. What a shame...
The Conners (2018)
After 3 seasons, I'm done.
Week after week, I say the same thing before the episode starts: "please don't suck." And after 3 seasons, I can confidently say that I gave this show WAAAAY more chances than it deserved. I thought this was supposed to be a comedy..? But every show is just more political BS. The writers have a selfish agenda. Rather than being entertaining, they have chosen to use their platform to espouse their PC doctrine.
Farewell "Conners."
Unplanned (2019)
Hard to watch at times, but very informative.
While this movie isn't going to win any major awards, it does expose the harsh, callous, brutal reality of abortion.
This lady had absolutely nothing to gain by sharing her experiences behind the walls of the clinic she ran. There are some very disturbing scenes, so the 'R' rating is definitely appropriate.
Unfortunately, there are folks on here who haven't even watched the movie and just gave it the lowest rating with a "propaganda" warning, because they fear the reality of what this procedure does to the babies and the after affects to the women who undergo it. This movie doesn't sugar-coat anything, nor does it sensationalize. Today, everything is about being "transparent" and that's what this movie is. It shines a light on the lies and reveals the darkest secrets of PP.
"The truth can sound like hate to those who hate the truth."
Anne (2017)
Strongly suggest responsible parents watch before exposing this to children.
This barely resembles the classic books, and should really have a stricter rating. PG-14 at the very least. The writers weren't happy with the implied sexual preferences of one of the characters in Season 1, so they added a few more, just to make sure to shove it down our unsuspecting throats. Moira Walley-Beckett, you had a great opportunity to introduce this treasure to millions of young people, and you used it to push your personal agenda. If this were Christianity, or conservative and moral beliefs you were promoting, there probably would have been a warning at the start of each episode. Let us parents decide when to explain these topics to our children, rather than taking it upon yourself.
