My Bloody Valentine (2009)
the 3D was just a cheap gimmick
OK before i start let me say that it's almost 2 in the morning and kind of tired, but i wanted to get this of my chest while the movie was still fresh in my mind. So forgive me if this makes no sense.
I am a huge fan of horror films and have seen plenty of slashers over the years, (although there are still tons more that i have to check out) but this has to be one of the worst slashers i have ever seen. I saw the original mbv a few years ago and don't quite remember it too well, so don't think that I'm hating just because I'm hung up on the original.
I understand that quality acting is never a big part in any slasher but this is Ridiculous, i have seen better acting in a F13 sequel. The acting was absolutely horrendous. The story was line was paper thin at best and it had one of the worst twists i have ever seen.
The 3D did absolutely nothing to better the film, it was just a cheap gimmick used so it distract people from seeing how bad the movie really is.
My rating for this would have to be 3/10. While the story was clichéd, dumb and pointless, the gore and TNA managed to keep my attention. rent the original instead.
I dunno about anyone else but the 3D also kinda hurt my eyes.
Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! (2008)
wow
I have wanted to see this film since I saw it advertised at the Melbourne Film festival so naturally I had to see it opening night when it came to my local cinema, I saw it last night and what can I say, it was fantastic, I had no idea that Australia made so many films in the 70's and 80's.
The film features interviews with a lot of Australian directors, filmmakers, critics, some A list Hollywood actors and even Quentin Tarantino, who has an unbelievable knowledge of Australian exploitation cinema.
The film explores the good, the bad and the ugly of Australian genre films. There is no doubt that there were some pretty dodgy ones made at the time but there is no denying that there were also some real gems made as well, it's just a shame that they seemed to do better overseas than they did here.
Weather you are interested in Australian film, Australian culture, or just film in general I highly recommend seeing this film. Listening to the filmmakers stories about how they made there films is both amusing and inspiring.
Over all this is a fun movie that should be seen in the theater.
Tropic Thunder (2008)
i was surprised!
I just got back from seeing this movie and what can i say? It was actually pretty funny.
I have been reading some comments on here, saying that the movie is racist and politically incorrect. While i do some what agree, i gotta say it's good to finally see a movie with some balls. Pretty much if you are easily offended by strong violence you most probably wont like this film.
The cast in the film were great. Robert Downey Jr was great as an Australian / African American and Tom Cruise was fantastic in his cameo, i didn't even recognise him until the end. Ben Stiller was, well Ben Stiller but he did a good job a writing and directing.
Over all the movie was solid and funny. It wasn't your average politically correct comedy, and thats what was so great about it. If you are looking for a fun action film I highly recommend it. If you are looking for something along the lines or meet the parents style comedy you will be let down.
it's good to finally see Hollywood make fun of them self for once.
Halloween (2007)
the night HE came home
Let me start by saying that I have seen both the work print and the theatrical version of this film, and I'm still undecided as to what I actually think of the film. By all means if you look at how crappy the Halloween series got by part 8 then this is an enjoyable watch. If you compare it to the original then I reckon you will be disappointed.
There where scenes in the work print that I thought should have been in the theatrical version, mostly where Michael is in the asylum. The Theatrical version also felt a little rushed.
One Thing that bothered me is that all the guys in the film had long hair and where assholes and all the girls where bitches. Also I don't understand what Rob Zombie's Fascination with making all the characters liking heavy metal is. I realize Rob likes metal and sings in a metal band (which I quite like) but I like hardcore and I wouldn't have people wearing gorilla biscuits T-shirts and such in my film. Over all It is not a bad film but it is no where as good as the original.
I really wish this remake trend will end soon, because it kind of sucks when all of my fave movies have been remade.
Hostel: Part II (2007)
what did you expect??
i just came back from watching hostel 2 at the cinema and all i can say is WOW. Manny people seem to be bashing this movie because of its lack of originality but i didn't seem to mind since i am a fan of predictable movies (mainly exploitation and 80's slashers). one thing i liked about this movie (apart from the gore) was that fact that it explained a lot more than the fist, which is expected in a sequel i spose. Sure the movie is predictable and contains enough gore to make an average cinema goer sick but what do you really expect from a movie called hostel 2. all i can say is stop listening to all the complaining, go see this movie and switch ya brain off for 95 mins its worth it.
