Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
Campy Fun
This was such a fun one! I like that it started with an actual storyline explaining why the animals started acting the way that they acted. And when you hear right at the beginning about what happens to Eeyore, it just makes you so sad. But still, this is plain silliness with a few sledgehammer whacks that actually looked realistic. Lots of blood and gore. Of course it also contains the typical ditzy girls that stand there looking stupid instead of actually running. They have piglet looking more like a warthog but Pooh Bear does kind of look like Pooh bear. But all in all, a super fun watch if you like campy, B rated flicks. I would love to get my hands on the Collector's Edition. I can't wait for the sequel next February!
Caged (2018)
Better than I expected
I wasn't really expecting too much with this one. I liked the premise of a female killer going on a rampage. Everyone she kills deserves what they get, which makes you like her even more. I have empathy for the girls that were taken and their feelings of hopelessness. Glad I picked this up from a rental place going out of business so it is part of my physical collection.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
I think I get it...
Wow - pretty trippy being able to make choices throughout the movie. Got a little tired of the redo options, thinking it was over, but glad I stuck with it to get to the absolute real ending. Which I definitely liked. Guess THEY were controlling ME all along! Hahaha!
House (1985)
Good old 80's horror fun
This movie is such a fun horror flick from my childhood. Blending laughs with outrageousness and a little ickiness, it is a great movie to sit back, relax, munch some popcorn and laugh.
Habit (1995)
Dark and fulfilling, yet aching for answers
This movie is so heavy and different from any other "vampire" film I've seen. I use quotes because the question becomes - is Anna really a vampire? Is it just a fetish? Does she actually have any control over Sam? What happened at the end? Was she ever really there at all?
The feeling of darkness and depression of the main character can be felt. His neediness and desire for Anna comes right through and you feel pain for him and his seemingly lonely and hopeless life.
I have the DVD with the special features and was able to learn more about the director's take, even though the ambiguous ending could still be interpreted in different ways. It left me aching for just a little more...
Even though this movie is over 2 decades old, it is worth the watch.
The 5th Kind (2017)
Horrible acting, but kinda likable
I enjoy low-budget movies and laugh at all the bad acting. This one is no different. It's a short one - just over an hour - so you won't feel you've wasted your whole evening. This one is pretty corny, but I liked the found footage scenes in the woods. Didn't care for the spliced in "interviews" and the interviewer was the worst actor ever - you have to laugh! Watch this just to make fun of him!
Død snø 2 (2014)
Hilariously good bloody fun
I enjoyed the first Dead Snow...but absolutely howled with this one! It was so fun to watch - so silly and over-the-top in every good way. And I just had to root for Herr Herzog! Ha! You simply MUST make time to watch both!
Edgar Allan Poe's Lighthouse Keeper (2016)
Decent, but disappointing
It's hard to determine if decency or disappointment will win in my head. I want to like this movie, but it was a bit too corny. I do enjoy Poe and I do enjoy low budget movies and like to give them a chance. I'm just so conflicted on this one. Would I watch it again? Quite possibly. Not a complete waste of time. Just odd.
It Comes at Night (2017)
More about paranoia...not about horror.
I went into this moving expecting a standard horror-style theme. It definitely was not that. Very slow and methodical. I was actually pretty irritated about wasting my time on it, but then did a Youtube search and watched a couple videos dissecting the movie and its themes. That gave me a much better appreciation for it. You just need to watch it with the understanding that it's about human interaction and paranoia. Go into it with the right mindset, and it's actually pretty decent.
Passengers (2016)
Not exactly what I was expecting...
I went into this movie thinking there were going to be other life forms involved; some sort of aliens. It ended up being a character piece. There were some scenes at the end that were ridiculous and implausible, but I just overlooked those and tried to enjoy the story. I also really liked the ending. It was a happy/sad ending, depending on how you looked at it. All in all, I'm glad I added it to my home collection.
Hidden (2015)
This is so worth your time!
The first half hour or so is slow and methodical, setting up everything...giving you a feel of their underground existence and isolation. Then the action starts and your heart starts to pound. And when you get to the ending, it is an excellent pay-off.
I will NOT give any spoilers. I just want to make sure you understand that, if you are a fan of post-apocalyptic films, you MUST see this and add it to your collection. There is no disappointment.
Haters Back Off! (2016)
Love to Hate or Hate to Love?
I pretty much enjoyed this as a silly, goofy, no-brain needed chuckle. There were times I loved Miranda and times I hated her. Mostly, though, I felt bad for Patrick. But it has its sweet moments and I'm sure I'll rewatch it again sometime.
