Shouldn´t this case be taken up in a court of law?
5 May 2024
Maryam is a young woman. She is convicted of the murder of her much older husband. Mona, Maryam´s late husband´s daughter, has a decision to make. Will she, in a reality TV show, forgive Maryam and save her from the death penalty?

I must say that I´m very confused. Shouldn´t this case be taken up in a court of law? I really think so. And some characters in this movie made, in my opinion, a little ill-considered decisions. But yes, I can also see Maryam´s and Mona´s strong emotions. And those emotions made my rating go from 6 to 7 stars.

Would I recommend "Yalda: A Night for Forgiveness"? Hm, I´m not entirely sure. Not everyone will probably like this movie. It has low-key action if you ask me. You should, in other words, avoid this movie if you love action above all else. At least according to me.

Bad for my nerves.
1 May 2024
John works as a librarian. He has financial problems. Those problems also affect his family. John tries to solve those problems by stealing many, very valuable and old books from his workplace. He then tries to sell those books.

I absolutley love books! And yes, I have also read many books throughout my life. I refuse to, in any way, damage books. This especially applies to books that I own and borrow. Since I have these feelings about books, I think, without the slightest doubt, that John is acting completely wrong. When I thought he couldn´t sink any lower, he went even lower. His handling of books is bad for my nerves. And he should be honest with his family and colleagues. And the fact that this TV series is based on real events is, to me, truly terrifying. But I also think that this TV series is interesting. Therefore, I recommend it.

Lasermannen (2005)

A rather tormented man with a heavy past.
27 April 2024
John Ausonius, one of Sweden´s most notorious criminals, is portrayed in this TV series. Ausonius used a rifle with a laser sight. Hence his nickname became "the Laser Man". His targets were primarily immigrants. Ausonius was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Ausonius must, in my opinion, be a rather tormented man with a heavy past. I think that David Dencik, in this TV series, portrayed Ausonius in that way. I can see the pains, the sorrows and the clumsy attempts at relationships, romance, love and affection.

I would have liked to see more of Ausonius´ family life, especially when it comes to his father. But all in all, I would recommend this TV series, especially for those who find Swedish crimes interesting.

When in Rome (2024)

I would have liked a flashback.
21 April 2024
Gerda and Kristoffer want to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. To do so, they travel to Rome. When Gerda was young, she studied art there. Gerda and her husband goes to a restaurant in Rome. Johannes is there. He used to be Gerda´s art teacher and lover.

First of all, don´t confuse this movie with the "When in Rome" from 2010. They have some things in common, for example art, love, Rome and the title. But the main similarities ends somewhere there. Gerda explores her past. Her soul seems to be young, but she has lived a long life. She has accomplished many things. And quite many of her decisions seem to have been good.

Filming took place, not entirely unexpectedly, in Rome. I have read that this was Rolf Lassgård´s first visit to Rome. And he and the rest of the cast and crew seem to have enjoyed the experience. What did I miss here? I would have liked a flashback. But that is the only thing. The rest is great!

It made me smile at once.
20 April 2024
"The Little Princess" follows the young girl Sara Crewe. Her father is Captain Crewe. He will soon fight in the Second Boer War. But first he has to leave his daughter at Miss Minchin´s School for Girls. At school, Sara and her father are shown to her room. After an emotional farewell he goes to the war front.

After a rather short time, Sara receives terrible news. Her beloved father is missing and presumed dead. What will she do now? Should she stay at school?

This movie made me smile at once. The intro was, in my opinion, very cute and nice. Shirley Temple and the rest of the cast and crew did, if you ask me, a very good job here. What did I miss in "The Little Princess"? Hm, maybe a little bit more romance and passion. But all in all, I would like to highly recommend this movie. I certainly didn´t regret watching this.

Björn: Why are you a priest?
12 April 2024
"Trevlig julhelg!"/"Nice Christmas weekend!" is, if you ask me, entertaining, interesting and nice. The residents of Västerköping celebrate Christmas in different ways. But one of them stands out in my eyes. Yes, I´m talking about Björn. Why is he a priest? It would make so much sense if someone, for some reason, forced Björn to choose a career as a priest. It would explain why he, in my opinion, acts like an atheist.

Christmas can be stressful for a lot of people. And the residents of Västerköping have, if you ask me, that kind of stress. My Easter celebrations tends to be calmer than my Christmas celebrations. During Easter there are fewer musts for me.

Yes, I would like to see how the Easter in Västerköping is. It sounds like a good idea in my ears. And yes, I would also like to recommend this TV series, especially if you enjoyed "Trevlig helg!"/"Nice weekend!".

I understand why this TV series got two spin-off series.
1 April 2024
In this comedy series, we meet some of the residents in Västerköping. They have different jobs and personalities, but they live in the same place.

Terese is, for example, a grocery store cashier. She is, if you ask me, very curious about her customers´ lives. And no, I don´t think that she is nice all the time.

I´m a Christian. At one point in my life, I wanted to work as a priest. But I, who don´t have a higher theological education, would have been a better priest than Björn. Has he even read the Bible?

I really have an advice for Anton. He needs to learn that the word no exists.

And yes, I think that Tom needs to grow up and take more responsibilities.

"Nice weekend!"/"Trevlig helg!" is, in my opinion, funny, entertaining and nice. I understand why this TV series got two spin-off series. Why? Because I think that the cast and crew did a good job!

Strong family drama with a personal touch.
30 March 2024
The Ekdahl family gathers their loved ones to celebrate Christmas together. Helena Ekdahl is the matriarch of the Ekdahl family. She has many relatives. Among them you can find her three sons, three daughters-in-law and a bunch of grandchildren.

Fanny and Alexander are two of Helena´s grandchildren. Their parents are Emilie and Oscar Ekdahl. One day something terrible happens. Oscar falls ill and dies. Everybody is devastated.

Bishop Edvard Vergérus was the one who held Oscar´s funeral. He marries Emilie Ekdahl, but their marriage begins to crumble quite soon. Why? Because bishop Vergérus is strict and conservative.

I really like this TV series. I watched it on SVT play. It was edited into a feature film. Yes, it is very long and yes, I took breaks. But I didn´t feel like I was wasting my time. I think that the cast and crew knew what they were doing. Ingmar Bergman took inspiration from his own life in "Fanny and Alexander". And the result is, in my opinion, a strong family drama with a personal touch. I would have liked to get a little more clarity, at least in a few scenes.

I´m looking forward to watching the shorter movie version, but I want to know much more about Ingmar Bergman first. I suggest that you watch "Fanny and Alexander".

I look up to him.
23 March 2024
We meet George Bailey in "It´s a Wonderful Life". He works in the family company Bailey Brothers Building and Loan. George is married to Mary, one of his childhood friends. They have 4 children and yes, their life is very good.

But one day the family company´s money ends up astray. The mean bank owner Henry Potter decided to trick George. He has their company´s money and yes, his intention is to keep them.

George becomes very sad. He begins to consider committing suicide. But thankfully, George´s guardian angel appears.

Yes, I can honestly say that I look up to George. He is nice, helpful, generous, brave and resilient in my eyes. I can see love between George and Mary, but I would have liked to see more of it. I don´t regret watching this movie. See it if you want to get in the Christmas mood.

Bagdad Cafe (1987)

Yes, I wish I could have liked this movie more.
17 March 2024
Jasmin, a middle-aged German woman, has an argument with her husband in the Mojave desert. They separate, maybe even legally. Jasmin finds a small cafe and a motel. Brenda and her family own and run the, unfortunately slow and not so successful, businesses.

Brenda is feisty and bossy. When Jasmin arrives, Brenda is suspicious. She doesn´t like her right away. But eventually Jasmin revives the cafe and the motel.

I wish I could have liked this movie more. A few camera angles felt a bit strange according to me. And I wouldn´t have minded getting a little more clarity, especially with the marital problems. And it wouldn´t have hurt with a bit more romance. I don´t know if I will watch "Bagdad Cafe"/"Out of Rosenheim" again, but who knows? Maybe.

The message is clear.
9 March 2024
This movie is based on true events. Vipeholm Hospital was inhabited by patients with intellectual disabilities. The sugar experiment was a part of the Vipeholm experiments. A lot of sugar was introduced in the hospital food. Many patients suffered. Their dental health became very bad. Eventually the hospital was shut down. Now you can find Vipan Secondary School in the former hospital buildings.

We meet Johanna in this movie. She is a patient at Vipeholm Hospital. She is in love with Vilgot, one of the other patients. Both participate in the sugar experiment. It doesn´t take long before Vilgot gets seriously ill.

I dislike dangerous experiments. And the sugar experiment must have been extremely dangerous, especially without the consent from the patients. Almost everyone in the hospital staff treats the patients badly. And the mean hospital employees have, if you ask me, a clear message to the patients. The message is: "you are nothing more than laboratory rats to us".

I like Johanna´s and Vilgot´s sweet relationship. I can see and feel that they really care about each other. But I would have liked more clarity about their families. Where are their parents during the sugar experiment? Does Johanna or Vilgot have any siblings? Why did they end up at Vipeholm Hospital?

All in all, I think that "The Sugar Experiment" is an interesting, strong and important movie. Avoid it if you are extremely sensitive. Watch it if you are interested in the theme of this movie.

Is he supposed to be a criminal?
24 February 2024
Pepe le Moko is a wanted jewel thief. He resides in the Casbah of Algiers. He doesn´t want to leave the Casbah, but Gaby might change his mind about that. She is a young, beautiful, engaged and French woman. While the police force tries to catch Pepe, he is drawn closer to Gaby.

I have one question about Pepe. Is he supposed to be a criminal? I can´t see or feel a large amount of violence in his life. And there could have been many more threats in this movie. And I also missed more romance and passion in "Algiers". I even forgot the title of this movie. It happened just a few days after watching it. Will I recommend this movie? No. Will I watch it again? No. Do I want to watch "Pépé le Moko" (1937)? Probably not.

I can almost imagine their childhood.
11 February 2024
Ali (nickname for Alain) is a single parent with fighting skills and economic issues. He and his young son Sam are on their way to Antibes. Ali´s sister Anna lives there. The plan is that Ali and Sam will stay in her home, possibly for quite some time.

Ali tries to find a job. He succeeds when he gets a job as a bouncer at a night club. During a work shift, he meets Stéphanie. At that moment, she is in the middle of a fight. He drives her home.

Stéphanie´s workplace is a local marine tourist park. She and her co-workers trains the killer whales. After a tragic workplace accident, Stéphanie loses her legs. And after that she contacts Ali.

Yes, I liked this movie very much. One of my relatives lost one of his legs. Therefore, I can understand a tiny bit of Stéphanie´s pain. I think that she also has an appealing sensibility. I can see that.

But I do have some questions. Where is Sam´s mother? And what is her name? In my opinion, things are hinted at, but not exactly made clear. She might be in jail. Or are Ali and Sam´s mother divorced? I can almost imagine Ali´s and Anna´s childhood. Were their parents addicts of some kind? What did they give to their children? A flashback could have given some answers. Yes, I can recommend this movie. I didn´t regret watching it.

Times have changed.
28 January 2024
Marianne is a young Norwegian woman. She lives in Oslo with her father. He works as a consul general in the shipping industry. Marianne has a female friend in Stockholm. The friend is about to get married. Marianne is asked to be a bridesmaid. She said yes, tells her father about the news, sits down in her sports car and drives to Sweden.

But it doesn´t go as planned. Marianne crashes with the sports car in a small Swedish village. She meets the local vicar Bengt. He is unmarried and a bit older than Marianne. He begins to help her.

One thing is clear if you ask me. Times have changed when it comes to dating, at least in very many places. I can see more liberty today. The villagers are not pleased when Bengt, an unmarried vicar, pays attention to Marianne, a Norwegian woman who is also unmarried. In my opinion, Bengt is caring, religious, kind and respectable. Yes, Marianne is beautiful and spoiled. But I also see an inventive and quite helpful woman.

Yes, I really liked "Her Little Majesty". It is charming, nice and interesting. I want to recommend it, especially to religious people like myself.

A hostile dinner party.
20 January 2024
In "Before The Winter Comes" we meet a family. We have a mother, a father and their son. They live on a farm in the Swedish countryside. In the film, a military coup is taking place in Sweden. One day the family receives a visit from three coup makers.

I have seen movies, TV series and documentaries about different wars, conflicts and military occupations. I can experience a bit of discomfort in this movie, but not extremely much. I actually miss more conflicts here. In some scenes I see a hostile dinner party, not a military coup.

And yes, I like named characters. It´s easier for me when I´m trying to describe the story. And I don´t understand why this movie is called "Before The Winter Comes". Was the title chosen in a hurry? Will I recommend this movie? Hm, I´m not sure.

August (2007 TV Movie)
9/10
Before he became famous.
6 January 2024
I´m not an expert on August Strindberg. When I studied theatre history, we read "Miss Julie", but I haven´t read any other of Strindberg´s works. I liked "Miss Julie". Three characters, one dramatic story. Nothing else is needed in "Miss Julie" if you ask me.

In my own eyes, I must say that I see August Strindberg as an outspoken rebel. And I think that Jonas Karlsson plays August Strindberg in that way. I don´t know if Strindberg was a womanizer, but I think that we can see a small glimpse of it in this TV series.

I haven´t watched "August Strindberg: One Life", a TV series from 1985. But I think that some things are really interesting. In "August" we can see Linda Zilliacus as Siri von Essen, August Strindberg´s first wife. Siri´s mother is portrayed by Stina Ekblad. But in "August Strindberg: One Life" we can see Ekblad as Siri! From the daughter to the mother! The second thing that I think is interesting is that Göran Stangertz, who played August Strindberg in the TV series "Selma", played the role of Carl Larsson in "August Strindberg: One Life"! And Stangertz has played Jean in "Miss Julie" in a 1985 stage play. And he has also directed the same story in a 2004 stage play.

In other words, the same actress and the same actor/director! I can truly understand why Ekblad and Stangertz returned to August Strindberg´s world. I don´t know what they think of Strindberg. I see a great author and, as written, an outspoken rebel.

I can recommend this TV series. "August" has a depth in my opinion. A depth that draws me in. I would have liked two more episodes. But that is the only thing that I missed.

Stitches (2019)

A very heavy story.
2 January 2024
Ana lives with her husband Jovan and Ivana, their daughter. Many years ago, Ana gave birth to a boy. After the birth, Ana was told that her and Jovan´s son had died. Ana believes that their son is alive. She really wants to find him. But neither the hospital staff nor the police want to help her.

I´m really struggling trying to understand how they, as participants, are totally okay with kidnapping newborn babies. Can those people sleep well at night? Are they proud of themselves? How and when do they choose the next victim?

I would have liked to get much more answers, maybe in the form of a flashback? I really think that this movie has a very heavy story. "Stitches" isn´t a comedy if you ask me. I see a drama with a good strength. And yes, I can recommend this movie.

A Cinderella Christmas (2016 TV Movie)

I only missed the snow.
24 December 2023
Angie is a young woman who works as an event planner. The owner of the event planning company is Angie´s uncle Otto. Angie is an orphan. She, and her bunny Jenny, lives with Otto and his daughter/Angie´s cousin Candace. Candace wants to marry a rich man. The young and handsome bachelor Nikolaus will be rich. His mother Viktoria demands that he must get married first.

Nikolaus wants to host a Christmas ball. Therefore, he hires Otto´s event planning company. And after the eventful ball evening, certain things aren´t the same.

I really must say that I missed the snow in this movie. I would have accepted white paper snowflakes as window decorations. But maybe nobody in the cast and crew thought about the paper option. But I also must say that, in my honest opinion, the snow was the only thing I missed. I can see and feel a fresh and modern interpretation of the popular, beloved and classic fairy tale. In other words, I want to recommend "A Cinderella Christmas".

Energetic, strong and youthful.
19 November 2023
Otto is a high school student who doesn´t take school seriously. Instead, he spends his time developing "Hack My Heart", an app that is said to help users find a love partner. And it´s certainly not a one-man job. Ottos sister Mira and his friend Tor does the digital parts of the work. Otto mainly advertises the app in different ways. It doesn´t take long before Cissi, an investor seems to be interested in making Otto an offer. But will he accept it?

I would actually be interested in a second season of "Hack My Heart". I think that this TV series is energetic, strong and youthful. In other words, I can see the potential here. I would like to know much more about Otto´s mother. Where is she? Does she know anything about her son´s current life? All in all, I can recommend this one. I didn´t regret watching it.

It is an intimate story that drew me in.
11 November 2023
Théo is a sweet little newborn boy. His young biological mother doesn´t want to keep him. Therefore, the adoption process begins. Théo meets quite many new people who cares for and helps him.

We also meet Alice in this movie. She is a woman with a kind, warm and caring personality. She has applied to become an adoptive parent for a couple of years.

"In Safe Hands" is an intimate story in my opinion. It drew me in quickly. I really wanted things to work out for little Théo. He honestly deserves the very best. I think that the people in the adoption process treated him and his biological mother with kindness, respect and calmness.

I only missed two things in this movie. I wanted to know much more about Théo´s biological mother. And some things were quite unclear when it comes to Karine´s love life. But I can absolutely recommend "In Safe Hands"! I don´t regret watching this movie. I think that it deserves a larger audience.

Marriage (2022)
8/10
Warm, tender and interesting.
7 November 2023
You are introduced to the married couple Ian and Emma in "Marriage". They have been together for more than 25 years. I can see and feel that their marriage is strong and filled with love and care. But they are also dealing with different issues.

Ian is, for example, unemployed. I think that he also can be misunderstood, even by Emma´s side of the family. Emma´s boss Jamie isn´t the greatest. He doesn´t listen or understand important things. Ian´s and Emma´s daughter Jessica loves to perform music. She also has problems with finding a boyfriend.

I´m sorry, but if you want me to be brutally honest I must say that the soundtrack, in my opinion, is horrendous. I think that the soundtrack lacks musical harmony, balance and genuine lyrics. And I´m not picky when it comes to music listening. I can, for example, listen to pop, rock, classical music, hip hop and funk. But the soundtrack in this TV series, Jesus, I just can´t listen to it without grimacing.

But all in all, I think that this TV series is very good! I can recommend watching "Marriage" because I think that the story is warm, tender and interesting. I would have loved to hear a good soundtrack. And some things could have been explained, especially when it comes to Emma´s parents and brother.

I have read between the lines.
5 November 2023
Tomas, his wife Ebba and their children Vera and Harry are on a skiing holiday. They enjoy the nice weather, the great skiing and each other´s company. But then comes the breaking point. The family sits down to eat lunch outside. Suddenly, an avalanche approaches the outdoor dining area. Tomas flees from the table and leaves his wife, their children and the other guests. The avalanche comes, terrifies all of the guests and vanishes.

After the frightening experience Tomas claims that he didn´t run away. His three family member´s frustration starts boiling. What should he do now to regain the family peace?

I think that it´s great if you can read between the lines while watching "Force Majeure". I could do that and it feels quite rewarding for me. And I also think that the body language in this movie was good. But some scenes were too confusing in my opinion. I would have liked a bit more clarity and romance. But yes, I can recommend "Force Majeure", especially if you love skiing.

Are they really in love with each other?
1 November 2023
Lucia survived a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Now, in 1957, she is married to an American conductor. During her time at the concentration camp she had a relationship with Max, one of the Nazi SS officers.

Lucia and Max haven´t met since World War II. But that changes at a hotel in Vienna. Max works there as a night porter. Lucia and her husband are there as guests. Lucia´s husband leaves the hotel because of work. And after that, it doesn´t take long before Lucia and Max starts seeing each other again.

Love is very important in my own life, especially the family love. Personally, I would be lost without love. But I must, in all honesty, ask if love is important for Lucia and Max? I can absolutely see pain, humiliation and obsession in their relationship. I think that those things were visible in "The Night Porter", actually in both the past and the present of this movie. But are Lucia and Max really in love with each other? Unfortunately, I also have to ask if they feel romantic attraction for each other? I´m not sure. But Charlotte Rampling is very beautiful and all in all, I think that the movie is dramatic, quite good and, at times, very confusing.

Wùlu (2016)

Who or what is the main enemy here?
30 October 2023
Ladji works as a van driver in Mali. He seems to be quite tired or bored with his work. One day he accepts to smuggle drugs. After that, he starts making a lot more money than usual. Ladji also has a sister. Her name is Aminata and she can, because of the new big money, say goodbye to her work as a prostitute.

I must ask an important question. Who or what is the main enemy here? Is it the drugs, Ladji´s some sort of inner demons, the border control, the Malian government or one of Ladji´s bosses or co-workers? Personally, I´m not sure. But my guess is the drugs.

And where is Ladji´s and Aminata´s parents? Why doesn´t anybody talk about them? Are they dead or alive? Did they abandon or disown their children? Are they just on vacation? Do they know anything about their children´s everyday life? It´s very important to have good role models. It can be a parent or a guardian. Who is Ladji´s or Aminata´s role model?

I think that "Wùlu" is quite good. But for me it isn´t a great masterpiece. I think that too many questions were left unanswered. Should I recommend "Wùlu"? If so, to whom?

Truly captivating!
28 October 2023
In "Thin Blue Line" we are introduced to the police force in Malmö, Sweden. They have a very challenging work. And yes, you can see and feel it here if you ask me. For example, they have to deal with violence, stress, prejudice, misunderstandings and threats. And on top of all that they have personal issues with both family members and romantic relationships.

My favorite character in this TV series is Sara. For example, I´m also a Christian and I can also be very slightly naive sometimes. But I don´t have Sara´s quite problematic love life or somewhat strained family relationships.

I think that "Thin Blue Line" is truly captivating! Without one tragic scene in season 2, I would have given this TV series 10 stars. I really want a third season of "Thin Blue Line". In my opinion, there is a lot more stories that can be told in a potential third season. So yes, I can recommend "Thin Blue Line" to everyone who is 18 years old or older.
