Alien: Covenant (2017)
Meh
Im probably one of the few people that actually enjoyed Prometheus so here goes
The Pros: This movie is visually stunning much like Prometheus the setting, tone and production value is really top notch. The gore is satisfying. The scenes with David and Walter were amazing.
The Cons: The characters are MOSTLY underdeveloped save it for Christopher Oram, the others are just (actually decent) actors having somewhat at least 5 lines and then die in the next scene. Katherine Waterston's Daniels felt useless she is nothing like Elizabeth Shaw she's not the most resourceful, has less screen time and feels like a token undeserving Final Girl. The film felt draggy. The finale was a lackluster.
Don't Breathe (2016)
Never ending suspense
Don't Breathe
Fede Alvarez will soon be a household name in the horror genre (he probably already is) bc of the ultra gory and fun Evil Dead remake and also this instant gem of 2016. The storyline is pretty simple it didn't try to reinvent the wheel or anything but they executed it very well. The characters are surprisingly likable (and resourceful) despite them being anti- heroes. Fede really wanted to make a different and less bloodier flick so this one is toned down but u can still expect disturbing and highly suspenseful scenes throughout the short runtime. And lemme tell you i just LOVE the fact that they toyed with my feelings by giving a lot of false endings and it made me root for the leads so much more.
I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance Is Mine (2015)
Enjoyable
Compared to the first two movies, this was kinda tame. Don't get me wrong, the kills were pretty brutal but it wasn't that gory. What made this movie fun to watch is it didn't use the same formula as the first one because instead it grew out of the mindless gore section and into a more serious story and it relates to the rape issues in real life. Story wise its almost similar to Lila & Eve. The pace was a little slow at first but it paid off once the revenge starts. Performances were amazing especially from Sarah Butler, Jennifer Landon and Doug Mckeon. Could it have been better? Yes, definitely but was it good? Yes. All in all it feels more of a revenge thriller and part character study (regarding the aftermath of a rape victim) rather than just being a typical torture porn that focuses on shock value. I highly recommend this as it is in fact a great follow up to the first. 8/10
Visions (2015)
Unexpected
Don't let the cheesy trailer fool you! It starts off as your ordinary haunted house flick but switches into a clever thriller. The twist was simple and wasn't overwhelming but definitely effective. Cinematography was okay, the sounds were great and so was the acting. Initially Even though Isla Fisher started her career in horror I didn't think she was the right actress for the role but she proved me wrong. Eva Longoria was in this too but honestly saying anyone could've taken her role. There are a few jump scares here and there and also some good old violence! It feels refreshing to watch because it wasn't another typical possession movie. The only complaint I have of this is that it was too short! Overall I enjoyed it from start to finish, it was fast paced, thrilling and straight forward. Give it a watch!
