Ghost Machine (2009)
Smart Horror
This film has very few faults. The special effects were absolutely top notch, the acting was very good and the plot, with some exceptions, was brilliantly written. The eventual reveal and "Ah-ha!" moments were slightly less slick than the special effects, but it took nothing away from the enjoyment of the film. It presents a view of the future of warfare that, while fantastical, is a great thought experiment and it augments that with some really creepy horror. Think The Ring meets The Matrix. The antagonist is brilliantly done and works on many different levels of suspense and horror. This film does so much right that I would put it up there with any of the major horror/suspense/sci-fi films released in the last 10 years. I don't think you'll be very disappointed.

The Zombie Diaries (2006)
Solid Realistic Zombie Movie with a Twist
I watched this because I love zombie movies, but I'm the kind of guy that only likes the good ones. I like the Romero films for the most part the remake of Dawn of the Dead by Zach Snyder, the Resident Evil films 28 Days and Weeks Later and some others. There are also zombie movies I don't like though, so don't think I gave this the rating I did because of that. This movie was extremely well put together and the best part about it is the way the different groups in the film are all connected. It is very realistic and it has some really great moments of making you feel like you're outside in the dark with only a flashlight and zombies after you. The characters are all great and some were phenomenal. It's a good zombie movie that is not a high budget movie but there really is no way for you to tell that. It was better made and more effective than Cloverfield which was another "shaky cam" movie. All in all really good and the best zombie film I've seen lately and certainly the smartest. I'm still surprised at how smart the filmmakers were and how great the story ended. Support these guys, they're good.
Screamers: The Hunting (2009)
I Liked It and I Think You'll Like It
I have to say, I absolutely love Sci-Fi of all types. This movie to me was in the same caliber as Supernova, Aliens 3, and Impostor. I expected low-budget everything but what I got was a perfect presentation. Everything looked high budget from the ship sets to the mine sets, nothing betrayed the fact that this is not a 50 million dollar movie. I couldn't believe it. I can't imagine how someone who loves sci-fi couldn't love this movie. I didn't find anything to be out of order. I liked the kick-ass female lead, the sleazy commander and the rest of the cast was great too. The costumes, weapons, the screamers and the plot were really top-notch and the few gory scenes were done phenomenally. Like another person said, if this is the worst movie you've seen all year, you're having a great year. If you've played the video game Dead Space this movie has the same feel as that game. Hope you like it.
