Connected: The Hidden Science of Everything (2020)
Who's the intended target audience?
I watched a few episodes because it looked like one of the more serious science shows. But I was so wrong.
The subjects are good, but the execution is like a typical click-bait-influencer video from youtube.
For example the episode Digits. A very interesting mathematical property of the world is explained like it's a great mystery.
You get example after example of how surprisingly many places in the world follows that property and how it can be used for very interesting things.
All examples take 15mins or more because there has to be dramatic editing, cute scenes of dogs running in a park, and all other kinds of wasted time.
But after 2-3 of these example, you really just think "ok I get that it's amazing, so now explain to me why it is so?" and start browsing Wikipedia on your phone, while the show keeps showing you more examples, a cozy balloon flight, and the infantile host is making more exaggerated youtube impression faces.
But explanation is not given. Instead... with two minutes left of the show the host concludes: "No one knows why it is so!"
But really if you just read the Wikipedia page you'll know there is in fact a clear explanation of which cases follows that mathematical property and which do not... and that it doesn't require much more than common sense to see why some cases work that way.
So you just spent 45 mins and not getting more than the name of a phenomenon, and a teaser to why it's interesting.
This should have been a 10min video, and this would even be enough time to include the explanation as well.
So who's supposed to watch this?
Housevives with too much time on their hands, who don't need an explanation anyway? (But do those even click on science shows to begin with?)
Kids that will be impressed by the stupid youtube style?
I have no clue, and I'm not going to waste more time on this show. Neither should you.
Cheap Date (2013)
"Reality" with extremely bad actors
Some, if not all, contestants are clearly actors trying to add some extra fun to the show. They fail miserably.
Only a few minutes into the first episode when the contestants are presented, you immediately notice fake accent and an actor with an expression that clearly shows:"This guy is playing a stereotype but he can't act."
The second episode feels more like candid camera when they match a guy with a girl that does not like guys...
If all recordings of this show should mysteriously vanish, not a single person on earth would miss anything.
