Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Expect a COMIC book movie, not a Christopher Nolan "Crime Drama"
This follow up to Man of Steel is dark and gritty pitting two of the most iconic heroes against each other. Although it first seems crowded with back-story and introductions of characters, it eventually layers the various plot-lines into the primary narrative.
Ben Affleck's interpretation of Batman is much more flawed than the cool and calculated Christian Bale version. He is just as intelligent in planning, but is much more battered and vengeful than the "Dark Knight" which makes for much more passionate acting. Affleck's performance is fantastic and his fighting is much more like the comics when it comes to brutality and defying physics.
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is a unique choice in the fact that he brings a completely fresh take on the legendary villain. DO NOT compare him to the previous versions or you will be disappointed, but I suggest keep an open mind. He may seem like a wanna-be Joker, but with a classic comic book vendetta for power as opposed to just doing things to cause chaos.
Ultimately, Batman v. Superman sets the stage for the next wave of DC Universe movies and it is good to keep that in mind while watching the film. Yes, it does show us the murder of Martha and Thomas Wayne AGAIN, as we have seen in the other Batman movies, so bear with it. Yes, the fight scenes drag on for a while. And yes, Alfred is awesome AGAIN. In the end, Zack Snyder did well. Home you all enjoy the movie as much as I did!
