I went into this show not expecting something as good as The Boys but that could be somewhat as entartaining, unfortunately that was not the case.
Even though the first episode showed promise, the show kept gradually losing momentum, the further along the episodes we go the less the show tends to progress the story and the characters for the most part end up being one-dimensional.
An abundance of corny lines for the most part that ultimately leave you totally uninvested on the stakes at hand. And episodes (plural) that walk themselves in circles effectively hindering the pace of the whole show while managing to not develop any characters in any significant way in the process.
And again it's a real shame it panned out like this because it feels like a very uninspired direction to take what at first glance seem like interesting characters (Marie, Emma, Jordan, Tek Knight...)
I will however say that in terms of production value it is on par with The Boys and the show's shining moments are for the most part it's action sequences, with an emphasis on the direction of a certain Sam scene being a highlight of the show for me.
Unfortunately resting on the back of some inspired ideas is not enough to overlook the underdeveloped characters and a convoluted plot that becomes unimportant and loses itself along the way.
Lastly, for all the reviews I've read complaining about this being just a boring show made for teenagers I gotta say I wish it was even more teen drama than it is I mean the show presents itself as students with superpowers in college. The Boys for me became such an interesting show because it feels like an accurate representation of society if people had superpowers, so having Gen V not spend enough time focusing on an accurate representation of college life mixed with superpowers and instead having our main group hastily join forces to solve a big conspiracy feels like an unwarranted direction to go from the start.
