Oh boy, what a journey !
28 November 2021
I was hesitant to watch this movie after i saw the low IMDB Rating (6.6/10 at the time of this review), but i am glad i did it anyway.

The story is an adaption of an old poem and follows the protagonist in a classic journey of self-discovery. It has the look and feel of a fairy tale with hints and symbolism in many scenes. The cinematography is brilliant with many artistic and visually impressiv frames and creates the perfect atmoshpere to show the inner struggle of the protagonist.

This movie has a slow pace (many negative critics said boring and slow), but it's necesarry to create moments to think and comprehend all the impressions you get. You need to focus and watch carefully , but in return the payback is in my opinion worth it. ("..these damn millenials with their smartphones", Ridley Scott)

Not dissapointed !

The story doesn't invent the sci fi genre completely new, but takes some inspiration from classic movies (e.g. Alien) and delivers it with a brilliant cinematogrphy . The motivation and actions of the main characters are lacking in depht and are in the weakest point of this movie. All in all i would still recommend this little inside tip, especially after reading that it was the first feature long film of a russian director.

Better than average

Good solid start of a new promising new horror/mystery show.

The story reminds me of classic adventure stories like Indiana Jones and gives constant suspension and couriosity. You want to know what happens next and what the mystery is about. It does not invent something completly new, but delievers an exciting premise.

The main protagonist is the heart of the show and carries the main attention of the spectator. In comparison the other side characters are boring and lack of an impact and can't compete with the actor of Refaat Ismail.

Where The Haunting of Bly Manor fails and tries to copies his own formula, this show creates a satisfying setting.

Underwhelming, but nice to see real comedians as cameos in a movie about stand up.

The story has an interesting idea, but is executed very poorly... slow and akward pacing makes the movie very boring. You see very early on that the director and comedian Steve Byrne has not much experience in directing and tries his best to put his personal experience with stand up on the screen. It has some funny jokes and the right message, but lacks in skill set. The acting of the most actors are terrible (and i am huge stand up fan and know all the comedians). The dialog scenes are little off and delivered poorly.

I follow most comedians and their podcasts and was happy to see many known faces but it makes it even more dissapointing to see them in a bad movie.

First contact done right ! Stop what you you are doing and watch it now (again) !

A well crafted movie with a dense thrilling atmosphere and an emotional story delivered by an brilliant performance by Amy Adams.

The story (without spoilers) is a mix of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Contact, but also adds something new and modern to the sci-fi genre.

The music helps to create the dramatic and dense atmosphere and also supports the emotional moments. (won Academy Award for Best Sound Editing)

All in all one of the best (when not the best) Sci-Fi movie of the last decade and a must watch for all movie fans. The director Denis Villeneuve knows what he is doing and set a very high bar for movie making in general and is probably in the top 3 best directors of the 21th century list (eg. Prisoners, Sicario and the only other competitor for Arrival what a suprise Blade Runner 2049).

Ted Lasso (2020–2023)

Suprisingly good !

My review is based on the first 3 episodes, but that's all it needs. The first impression was a negative one after the first trailer but i am glad i was proven wrong. the story has a simple premise about a guy who don't know anything about the sport he was hired to coach; - not my cup of tee But the key of this show is Ted Lasso, potraid by the perfect actor for this job Jason Sudekis and his ability to make the viewers heart melt. All in all if you are searching for feelgood tv show with good comedy you found your piece.

Help, we are stranded !
9 July 2020
The premise is simple but somehow realistically and follows a family after a catastrophic event and their journey for survival. Very emiotional and consequent story telling. It also provides beautiful animation and soundtrack and reminded me a little of "Your Name" in these aspects, but in comparison it lacks of interesting characterization (only good and evil) and storytelling (too many ex machina moments). It would have been better as a standalone movie with concentrating on the main characters, but Netflix probably don't likes solo anime movies .

Rollercoaster of emotions.
3 June 2020
All in all a very unique tv show and in times of streaming services with the sheer amount of selections not an easy task. It's not easy to talk about the story without spoilers, but that's not the important part -"the way is the goal" and after reading a couple of negative reviews i can understand their point, if you hope for a mystery detective tv show you don't get your normal pay off. The development of the characters and their realtionsships is the centerpiece (damn onions...).

Also the last episode is probably a little confusing for the majority viewer (shown in the low ratings), but personally i think it was brilliant. (it probably depends, if you followed Jason Segels carrer and personal life or not)

Fun vampire slaptter

Not many words needed to describe this movie: 80s vampire slasher. It makes fun to watch James Woods in a bad ass action movie. Story is a little weak and makes less sense you more think about it, but it has good one liner and it aged well (effects ect.).

Not perfect, but fun to watch (if you ignore science inaccuracy).

The characters are sometimes to narrow minded and often behave irrational, despite their situation. However the plot drags you in and gives the viewer a fast pace tv show with no half-measures. Good for a quick binge-session.
