Ocean's Twelve (2004)
All in all, a very good movie
I have never seen Ocean's Eleven, but I went to the theater to see Ocean's Twelve anyway, with the excitement of seeing many of my favorite stars (i.e. Catherine Zeta-Jones,George Clooney, Brad Pitt) in a movie all together. Catherine did a wonderful job in her role as Agent Isabel Lahiri, because of her aloof, sexy, cold attitude toward the other characters. I commend her ability to be able to not be very nice to Brad Pitt and George Clooney in the movie, because I sure wouldn't be able to! *SPOILER HERE, DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT VIEWED OCEAN'S TWELVE: (In addition, I was so happy to see her and Brad get together in the end!!)* George and Brad reprised their skills as thieves, and their characters looked like they knew exactly what they were doing all of the time, which gives a sense of security. Ocean's Twelve also has a very intriguing plot line, though at times a little confusing. I sometimes was like "What?" and had to rewind it a couple of times. My brother watched it with me and was very confused: "Wait, so it was Ocean's Eleven at first, and then the old guy dropped out, but then the old guy dropped back in, and then did Isabel??" I was just like....um, yeah, okay. This is not a good movie to watch if you are not very sharply observant, or if you get confused easily. But if you love a briskly entertaining movie with lots of mystery and intrigue (and you don't mind rewinding back a few times) then Ocean's Twelve is the movie for you! :)
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
Very Good Movie
I rate this movie a 10. Renee Zellweger did such a fine job in the role of Bridget Jones, and maybe it was because I am used to seeing her look beautiful in films, but it didn't really look like she gained any weight to me, she just looked like her very pretty self. It wasn't until she had on that bunny costume, where I went..oh, well, MAYBE she gained some poundage, but she still looks pretty. She also does a very good English accent. Colin Firth was so much fun to watch, especially because he is playing "Mark Darcy", whereas he played "Mr. Darcy" in Pride and Prejudice.I was rooting for him to win Bridget's heart, and I am so glad he did, instead of Daniel Cleaver. I am sure that Hugh Grant is not like this in real life, as repulsive as he is in the movie.I also enjoyed seeing Jim Broadbent in this role, as I have only previously seen "Moulin Rouge!" with him in it, and his role in this movie is SO different, I barely recognized him. The women that play Shazzer and Perpetua; and the man that plays Tom are also very good. Shazzer kept me laughing! The only recognizable flaw in this movie is Gemma Jones in the role of Bridget's mum. I found her unbelievably unattractive and so annoying it wasn't even conceivable. I have read the book, and from what I can tell, her mum is supposed to be like that, but I still, even now, every time I watch it have to suppress the urge to wring her neck lol
This is a very funny movie, and it is an entertaining one. You will like it if you like British humor, but otherwise, you may not understand it.
Cold Mountain (2003)
Great Movie
This movie was good because of how it portrayed the Civil War, it wasn't boring at all. But I love it because of the way the actors portrayed their characters. Renee Zellweger was by far the star of the movie, stealing the show. Even though she is a supporting role, she plays Ruby so well, and she makes Ruby seem so real. Renee takes Ruby to so many different places in the movie. She makes Ruby a fighter at times, such as when she is kicking her father or swearing at him;and she is not afraid to make Ruby seem bossy, like when she is telling Ada all the farm chores that need to be done. She is not afraid to make Ruby seem ignorant, like when she does not understand why Ada cannot do all of the things she can. Not afraid to make her seem frightened, like when they rescue Sally; and Renee was not afraid to show Ruby's soft side, to break down all of the toughness surrounding her, such as when she starts to cry during the sequence when she tells Ada that she has "big plans for that farm" after Inman comes because she is afraid she is going to be made to leave; or when she starts to become emotional during her "cloud over the land" monologue. Renee had only played a suicidal woman, a thriller role, and several comedy roles before, and I think that this role is her most versatile and complex role yet. This is proved, since Renee won an Oscar for best supporting actress for "Cold Mountain" in the role of Ruby Thewes. She also pulled off a Southern accent perfectly. Nicole Kidman and Jude Law also did very well in their roles, and made their characters seem real. I don't think Nicole and Jude had that great of chemistry between them (maybe because of the age difference, Nicole=38, Jude=33)but they managed to make that seem not too apparent. This is a great film for someone looking to learn more about times of the Civil War, or for someone that just wants a good romance/action/drama/adventure flick. 10/10! :)
Chicago (2002)
My favorite movie!
This was such a great movie. When I first saw it, I didn't think I would like it too much, because I normally don't like movies about murders and crimes, but this was more of a comedy than a gory, murder mystery. I was amazed at the skill and talents of the actors. Catherine Zeta-Jones, although I expected this since she has been singing and dancing since she was a little girl, still stunned me with her expertise. She has a beautiful deep voice that resonates in her songs, and can dance better than any movie star I've ever seen. Her acting was also flawless, and I found myself being glad that she and Renee got out in the end, because even though she plays a character in the movie that everyone is supposed to hate because she is mean to Roxie (Renee), I still found myself liking her best. Renee Zellweger was extraordinary, and it amazed me that she could sing as well as she did with never having sung in a film before. She was a beginner at the singing as well as the 20's style dancing; but she pulled it off like a pro. She also has a gift of likability, because even though I found her character of Roxie Hart unbelievably whiny and selfish, I still liked Renee! Richard Gere was great, too, especially with his tap-dance that he worked forever on. He plays the style of a suave, debonair, sleazy lawyer just right! All in all,I give this movie a 10, because it always kept me entertained, and it is one of the movies that you can watch over and over again, which I have! :)
White Oleander (2002)
Very emotional and moving
This was an excellent movie, very emotional and moving.Michelle Pfeiffer looks more like she belongs in a beauty contest than in prison. She still did a good job with Ingrid, though. But it was Renee Zellweger who steals the show with her portrayal of Claire Richards, the suicidal foster mother. This is such a different role for her. It shows that she can act in dramas just as well as in comedies and thrillers. Allison Lohmann was very convincing in her role of Astrid, which I think this is her first big film. This is an excellent movie, but it is more of a chick flick than an 'everybody' movie. Also, don't watch this movie if you are in the mood to be cheered up lol, as although this is a great movie it is not a very happy one :)
