Spaceman (I) (2024)
10/10
One of Adam Sandler's best films in years.
4 March 2024
A mix of Solaris, 2001, and perhaps a touch of Hail Mary by Andy Weir. We're dealing with some psychotically profound psycho-drama here, delving into the self to discover oneself in the vast void.

I love that they didn't relocate the plot to the USA, but kept it on a Czech spacecraft in the sixties (?), complete with retro buttons and bulky phones infused with technology. I initially thought it was written in the sixties, but in fact, it was written in 2017 by Jaroslav Kalfar.

Jakub Prochazka (Sandler) is a depressed astronaut on a solo mission to Jupiter to investigate some strange clouds, but there is some kind of alien on board. His marriage is falling apart, and the control on Earth is more interested in the mission than in him.

It's definitely not a film for everyone, much like 2001 or Solaris weren't, but I was captivated, something that rarely happens to me with American films in recent years.

Strain 100 (2020)
5/10
Strain 100 is an amateur film, don't be so hard on it.
13 January 2024
Strain 100 is an amateur film and has been free since day one. Therefore, it should not be judged under the same criteria as major films. It is available on various TV platforms, and I have watched it on Amazon Prime.

But is it worth watching?

Strain 100 starts off by introducing us to a new miracle vaccine, and how the vaccinated suddenly start behaving strangely. We then cut to a crashed car, followed by a flashback to "12 hours earlier" where a group of young people in their mid-twenties are on a camping trip. During the night, the group is attacked by zombies. Our main character takes a car and escapes with a friend. An amusing detail is that none of the cars have license plates, they could have bought some from Walmart for the film.

It appears that the world has been overrun by zombies and has collapsed. How long has the group actually been on the camping trip? Anyway, they have a car accident, bringing us back to the same timeline where the film started.

She seeks shelter in a house where the owner has turned into a zombie, and she meets a girl who had been hiding in a closet. The girl can provide some information about what has happened and mentions a group hiding in a cafeteria. They go there, something new happens, and then they leave. This pattern of something happening, followed by something new happening, continues throughout the film.

Does the script save the film?

First and foremost, many aspects of Strain 100 actually work quite well. The sound is decent, the acting varies but mostly decent with some exceptions, and the effects may not be masterful, but for a low-budget film, they are acceptable.

The fact that the film was released in 2020 is purely coincidental. They had been working on it for three years when COVID-19 hit, but that can be considered lucky timing. Unfortunately, one can feel that they worked on it for years, as it feels like a series of loosely connected scenes that only somewhat fit together in certain places. Many characters are "important supporting characters" for 10-12 minutes and then disappear. When you have mediocre actors, it is probably not wise to have long, awkward dialogues. The script is probably one of the weakest points of the film.

Overall

As a free amateur film, it is decent, and based on that premise, it ends up being a fairly decent film. If you are into zombies, it might be worth a watch.

Weird cinematic choices and sometimes out of character acting...
16 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Leave the world behind

Let me start by saying that it is actually quite decent in my opinion, although it suffers from the Netflix syndrome; it is too long and there are many unnecessary scenes that do not move the plot forward.

A couple goes on vacation in a rented house and suddenly loses connection to the internet, the phones do not work, and the TV shows the emergency channel. So far, so good.

A father and his daughter come by; they are the owners of the house and his daughter. It is clear that especially the wife, played by Julia Roberts, and the owner's daughter do not like each other at all. The owner's daughter is quite despicable and behaves in a deeply privileged manner. Slowly, it dawns on the viewer that the dark daughter is semi-racist, and the same goes for Julia Roberts' character, and the undertones actually work quite well. However, the same cannot be said for Ethan Hawke's and Mahershala Ali's characters or the two children.

As a viewer, one realizes that Julia Roberts' character is skeptical because an unknown couple shows up in the middle of the night and they are black, and it is also clear that the owner's daughter (Myha'la Herrold) does not like the couple because they are white and therefore, by definition, have it easy.

However, it is very difficult to understand where it is coming from. For one, she herself is rich and privileged (=I'm a teenager, daddy's girl, and the center of the world, and I lack a purpose in life), and secondly, we see no hint of that part in the father. It could, of course, be some kind of rebellion against the family. That was at least what I thought, but on day 2 - about 2 hours into the film - the daughter is lying next to her father and says "we must never trust white people," and completely out of character, the father responds "okay, I've got it under control." Based on the character, it would make more sense to respond with something like "that's a terrible thing to say." One thing is the absurdity of the scene in relation to the characters they play, another thing is that it is completely 100% unnecessary. It does not contribute to the film and simply becomes filler that does not move us forward, and we are already at 141 minutes.

Unfortunately, it is quite typical for the film that everything needs to be explained and emphasized. We know that the daughter is hateful, somewhat racist without reason, and behaves as if she is the center of the universe, but it needs to be emphasized. It also needs to be emphasized that she misses her mother a lot, and therefore, she is hateful, and it is said out loud. Let us think for ourselves.

The audience is simply not considered intelligent enough to figure it out, and therefore, we constantly move into "telling and showing." The producers' constant "this is what I mean, and now I will just shout it into your head again if you didn't get it."

That is why it ends up being a somewhat flat film, which could have been so much better if it had been a bit sharper and the unnecessary scenes had been cut out.

Loki (2021–2023)
3/10
The Infinite Indifference of the Multiverse
4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, I finally watched Loki season 2. It's about Khan, the most powerful villain ever, being defeated again, but then it doesn't really count, but then it does count, but then Loki's friends die, but then he changes something, and they don't die, but Khan doesn't die, oh wait, now someone's children die, but Loki changes something again, oops now they died again, well let's do it all over again, and again, and again, and again, and again. And it's not just confusing - just like this text - but it's all mixed up in a mess.

It might be intentional, but the problem for me is that this mess becomes meaningless, and along the way, I start to doubt what the heck this is actually about. Personally, it wasn't until around episode 5 out of 6 that I even understood what the story's plot actually is.

It doesn't help that one needs infinite energy to endure the slow motion and cool CGI showcasing. We also don't need those extra four pages of comics in the middle of it all, where the artist just wants to show off. The whole story could have been told in 1.5 hours and even had time for a love story, if desired.

Loki season 2 doesn't score any stars in the infinite void of indifference. If you don't watch it, nothing is lost. If you do watch it, it's forgotten after 5 minutes. Such a shame after the first season.

They gave the plot away
28 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
On the cover, it says that two girls knock on a father's door and then assault him. That is correct - it happens after 51 minutes of out the runtime of 90 minutes.

I wish I would have seen the movie without knowing this.

They then sexually assault him and accuse him of being a paedophile, but were we in Hard Candy were in doubt, there is no doubt in Knock Knock that he is not. They are clearly not children and he is the victim.

The actors are great and that makes it a decent movie.

Wow, just wow!!
24 December 2021
Don't say too much because It's very hard not to spoil this movie, so I'm just going to tell, that it's awesome. The acting is great, Keanu Reeves and Anne-Carrie are great and so is Neil Patrick Harris.

The script is extremely well thought off and works like a charm. The effects are not over the top like the 2nd and 3rd movies where it got too much, these are just right.

Matrix 4 is just as great as the first one. Watch it.

As a crap B-movie it is not bad
24 July 2021
In the genre of B-crap movies with strange concepts and wanna-be-actors, it's actually not bad. Weirdly enough John Savage's plays the evil bad guy who tries to control this "Waterworld"-world.

The CGI of course is horrible and I have never seen a ship that flies when bombed :-D.

Not one redeming thing about this
24 July 2021
The actors can't play, can't fight. The cameraman has properly never had a camera before.

The script is non-exsisting and the soldiers are 100% jerks so are the zombies by the way. The music is atrocious and the slow-motion effect is overused.

The Asylum movies are masterpiecies next to this.

realistic? Hopefully not
20 June 2021
I seriously doubt that humans would act so evil, selfish but also stupid in this situation. People are just mean to each other constantly. Even when they find more food and supplies than one person ever can use, they still fight.

Basicly everyone is barbarians and we welcome their death when they are hit by karma.

Very good filming and action, but the script aren't great. We have no one to cheer on and my interest got less and less.

If you like MMORPG you will definitely love this movie.
14 May 2021
An annoying NPC (Rowan Bettjeman) is on his daily walk when an adventurer recruits him and he ends up getting (a bit) self-aware and has to rescue a girl played brilliantly by Phoenix Cross. Also, Ben Van Lier deserves praise for his role as the player who really doesn't like this game anymore.

Super social drama
28 November 2020
A marvelous story that really has a grip on the viewer.

A child writes a concerning story and her teacher contacts the state that is removing the children from home. Bjarne Henriksen as the social worker is brilliant and the girl Holly (Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl) is very trustworthy but it is the same with all the actors. It's high quality.

I doubt how much rewatching value it has and if you are not living in a country the has the same system as Denmark it might seem strange(?).

A horrible mess
17 October 2020
The acting is horrible but the worst part is the mess of a script. How do you mess up a zombie script?? Outbreak --> killing --> the end. But not this one.

Max is getting married with a young girl, then there comes a zombie outbreak. It could have been a nice little "old fart protect young girl"-movie. But no. Subplots with more subplots and weird scenes with no connections to the main plotline.

It's a mess and you should avoid this it.

Brilliant and realistic movie about the parallel society
11 September 2020
Brilliant, just brilliant, one of the best movies for years. I can surely understand why this is praised by people who has _watched_ the movie - and yelled at by people who just saw the poster and got in the "I am offended"-mode.

This is Maïmouna Doucouré first feature film and she is clearly a talented instructor.

The movie is about a young Muslim girl which is trying to find a way out of social control. Her mother is keeping up appearances but is deeply unhappy and miserable. In the mosque, they are told what real women are and the girl looks behind the facade and sees all the lies. She gets fascinated by 4 girls the same age which is training to a contest and is trying to get in the group.

The way a troubled child screams for help. The grown-up's reactions that they have no idea what happened in their children's life. The parallel society is shown brilliantly. The movie is in that way very realistic. The children acts very well.

If you have watched this movie and you find the scary part is a child's bellybutton, you really need to watch it again and make sure to watch it til the end.

Brilliant movie.

Gotta love it
1 September 2020
Awful acting, CGI like a PS2 game, horrible lighting, writing by people who have never talked to humans, and a plot so stupid that it's difficult even to make this by accident. It's predictable, fx "what could go wrong" and then... yeah it goes wrong. Pretty girls in bikini and Emanuelle Carriere that might learn to act, are helping this funny movie along (I guess it should have been a horrormovie).

If you like bad movies, this is a must-watch.

Just retelling Internet tales without journalist approach. Disappointing.
22 August 2020
Episode 1 give the games ET and Pacman from Atari the blame for the "crash in the USA".

The "crash" didn't take place. Games companies went out of business because they didn't renew themselves and people just moved on computers because they were better and modern. Very simple. It happens all the time.

"People stopped playing because of bad games" - oh dear. Have you ever played games? Bad games have always been there. Have you ever played Commodore 64? Half the games were cr*p.

The series just take the popular stories/tales of the internet and retell them without any journalist approach. Disappointing.

Neat entertaiment if you dont think to much about it
17 August 2020
Year 3000 and Earth is occupied by aliens who are really stupid. If you turn off any brain activity, remember it's a comedy and forget the massive plotholes: Then it's actually not as bad as its reputation. I have watched it a couple of times and it is neat entertaiment.

A decent B-movie
1 August 2020
Los Angeles is hit by a natural disaster. As a low budget TV-movie (I guess) it's a decent movie. Most of the actors do a nice job. Sydne Mikelle stands out on the good side. Director Tibor Takács has also found some good music and the sound are overall quite good.

Great script and awfull screenplay
28 July 2020
If you havent read the book yoy have really no chance of understand this movie. Lyra seems like a lucky spoild child and the action goes extremely fast and with any depth at all. The daimons are in the book the most important thing for humans, the movie dont show this.

Dont get how Chris Weitz could make a great novelle to this bad movie.

It's just so booooooring
18 July 2020
It actually starts very promising. A spaceship takes off from Earth and brings thousands of people to Mars. An accident happens and they get off course and now drift into space.

If one imagines the excellent Avenue 5 series from HBO and then then removes any excitement, drama, solution attempts and adds depression. Then you have Aniara, which is a mixture of Lars Von Trier's strange manuscripts and Bergman's socialrealism in space.

It's just soooooo boring.

A absolutly decent actionmovie with Ryan Reynolds where he plays a mortal Deadpool. It's fun, it's action and it's forgot 2 days later.

I liked it and I will properly rewatch it again over the next couple of years.

The movie dont know what it want to tell
25 December 2019
Most af of actors are comedian and the movie is marketing is as a comedy. But it's more socialrealisme and cristisme of the metal treatment. We have doctors who is drug users and the nurses seems more mentaly sick than the patients.

It could have been a good movie, but it's not.
