The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015)
I think fatigue finally set in for this franchise. It was good but nowhere near great
I loved the first two Hunger Games movies, especially Catching Fire. Simply fantastic. But then the studio made the worst decision to split the final book, which was also the weakest book, into two movies and what we get is a dull, sloppy, forced film
Now, to be fair, this latest installment was far better than Part 1, but with that being said, it was so painfully obvious that it did not need to be split into two movies. I felt even the actors were over this. I did enjoy the intense moments once Katniss and her crew were finally in the capitol and had to maneuver through the city avoiding deadly traps. There were great moments in these scenes. But even these scenes could not save the slow and somewhat fatigue state this franchise has brought. I think had it ended last year, with Part one and two as one movie it would have ended on a high note, but then they wouldn't get the money from us moviegoers by milking it into two movies.
So there you go. It was an okay, one time see. But I have no desire to see it again and by this point could care less if Katniss made it through.
Love the Coopers (2015)
I wanted to enjoy this movie, but it was terrible
I want to start off by saying that I am fairly easy to please when it comes to movies. The last movie I saw was Burnt, which received generally negative reviews, but I loved it. There are several other movies recently that have received poor reviews that I enjoyed, so it is easy for me to enjoy movies. But wow, this movie was terrible. I truly do not believe how such an ensemble of wonderful actors and actresses could agree to star in this.
A few nit picky things- This movie was beyond cliché. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy cliché movies. I actually like some movies that have generic parts. But the formula for this movie made me sick. It was so cheesy and so cliché that I really, truly at one point began to think this was a parody or satire created film that makes fun of generic and cliché movies, but it wasn't! There was no parody aspect to it. It was just terrible.
Now let's talk about the characters. I want to start with Olivia Wilde's character Eleanor. Basically, when she enters the narrator says she has been hurt by love and closes herself off to love. Which means we all know where this is going. Which, again, I like cliché, but this was over the top. What happens is she meets an army man played very well by Jake Lacy. Their "love story" was so unbelievable because she, as the narrator says, was so hurt by love, yet when she meets Joe (played by Jake Lacy) she for some reason pursues him and instantly trust him. It was like as soon as the narrator said "She could never love again," she instantly falls in love. And what's more, she was a terrible character. She was completely disrespectful to Joe and for some reason he was into her. She would insult his political views and character and act high and mighty when she was the one sleeping with a married man and the one hating her family. Next was Amanda Seyfried and Alan Arkin's story. It was totally weird. It felt like she was into a man 60 years older than her and it was weird. He gets angry instantly at her as she says she is moving because of "great waitress opportunity." I just didn't get it. She was totally thrown in there for no reason. Oh, wait. There was a reason. Literally the only reason she was in this move was to be the eye candy for ed Helm's character Hank. That is it. And of course Hank is divorced because no family in stupid movie like this can stay together apparently. The only saving grace in this movie... the reason I gave it a 2 instead of a 1, was John Goodman and Diane Keaton's character Sam and Charlotte. They were on the verge of divorce after 40 years of marriage and i felt their relationship real. They were the only two people in the movie I hoped things would work out. And things do work out for the two, it was a completely stupid, cheesy, and cliché way it worked out, but I am glad it worked out nevertheless. I literally could not care for any character in this movie. It was hard to look past the terrible plot to even see such great actors dive into such terrible plots and scripts And my last, most annoying thing to say about this movie, is it is completely narrated through the dog. Yup, you heard me right. It was narrated by the dog of the family. Such a lazy and terrible way to make the plot continue. I wanted to like this movie. I really did. I love many of the actors and actresses in it. But They could not save this movie from such a terrible plot and passing and such terrible dialogue. Save your money.
Straight Outta Compton (2015)
Unbiased Honest Review
So I just saw Straight outta Compton and I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I did enjoy the movie and felt like there hasn't been a genuine long drama for a while. I think we need to bring more of these back. On the other hand, there were a couple of things wrong I thought. So I'm going to go ahead with a pros and cons.
Pros: The story was told wonderfully. Again, we as a society have been so numb to dramas because we are so used to seeing non stop action, explosions, and comedies. I for one appreciate a good drama. I enjoyed the story for the most part I thought the acting was great. Ice Cube's son was perfect at representing his father. To be honest, I hate rap music, but did enjoy everything they performed I did like how the friends who split up and fought ended up making amends.
Now the Cons Despite enjoying the story, I thought the movie could have been about 20 minutes shorter I will say this without getting political. I want to say first that the cops portrayed in this movie were terrible. They were absolutely awful and should be stripped of their badges. With that being sad, they do not represent every cop. So to write a song called F*ck the Police and demoralize every cop is ignorant and immature. Lets see what happens when we take every cop off the street and see where our society goes with no law. Thats all I'm gonna say on that It's bothersome also that these "role models" live such disgusting lives. They cheat on their wives like it's nothing. A wife should be cherished and loved. And on that note, I feel as though there was unnecessary nudity. It didn't advance the plot and we already know they lived in such debauchery that I felt it unnecessary
These are my thoughts. It was cool to see the background behind Ice Cube and Dr. Dre.
Fantastic Four (2015)
Great Potential Ruined by a Terrible Script
The thing is, the movie I saw could have been so good! I thought the actors were okay. They weren't amazing but weren't bad. Let's call this for what it is. They tried. You can tell they tried. But it fell flat. The script was bad. The overall plot wasn't. The idea of going into another dimension, being run by the government, and then becoming a super group is a common idea but not a bad one. The problem is, the characters introductions were forced. It just seemed awkward how all of the fantastic four showed up. And I hated that The Thing and Sue Storm literally never said a word to each other. Not once. They become the fantastic four was very forced. I think had the movie been 30 or 40 minutes longer with some more action thrown in it could have been good. Overall, it was bad and could have been good. I think it's time to revert to the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Ant-Man (2015)
Surprised how good it was
Don't go into this movie expecting huge set pieces. I was very surprised how good this movie actually was. I think it was a nice change to be scaled down after the massive Ag of Ultron (which I enjoyed). We've been given so many huge stories that it was actually a breath of fresh air to have something smaller, funny, and enjoyable
The cast: Paul Rudd was perfect. He was funny and charming. Michael Douglas played a great Hank Pym and great mentor. The villain was fairly good. He wasn't any Loki or Winter Soldier, but he was a better villain than anyone Iron Man has faced (in terms of characterization, not strength). He was crazy and you could tell he had problems with Hank. Evangeline Lilly I liked but she wasn't my favorite. I'm not hating on her, she did a fine job, I just wasn't a crazy fan of her acting.
The story: a superhero movie about a man who shrinks to the size of an ant and named antman is a recipe for disaster. BUT THE PULLED IT OFF. Seriously, the story was great. Was it amazing? No, but I throughly enjoyed the story. I loved how it was a guest. The movie was just different
The special effects: seeing Paul Rudd turn small was so fun to see! They handled every shrinking scene wonderfully
Was it the best Marvel movie? No. Was it up there as one of the better ones? I'd say yes simply because it was good, enjoyable, fresh, fun, and different. There were a couple of slow parts, but over all, I recommend seeing it. You'll be surprised
Arrow: Left Behind (2015)
Great episode but trying to like Laurel is the Black Canery
Wow! I loved this episode. First of all, it was great seeing Diggle and Roy take on the city without Oliver. It showed that they were loyal to his cause. And the emotional aspect to this episode was perfect. Felicity really shines in this one. It was so sad to see her denial of Opivers death and lash out on Ray Palmer due to her stability. And when she said she has already lost two friends by 25 you really felt for her. I loved the dichotomy between Diggle, Roy, and Felicity. You can tell they care about each other. I thought it was cool how Merlin went to the spot where Oliver was killed because he genuinely wanted to know and he wanted to tell those left behind. Now here is my one critique. Just to clarify I do not hate the idea of Laurel becoming the Black Canery, it just feels way to soon and forced. Oliver was on an island being trained by some of the most ruthless killers before becoming a hero. Sara was trained by the League of Shadows for years. I just find it too far fetched to believe Laurel could be this just by being trained by a boxer. If Laurel started this now and two seasons later came in or even next came in as the Canery then that I could believe a little. It just felt out of places and forced. Anyway, great episode, but just didn't like the forced Canery
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
Get passed the first few episodes
So I started watching Agents of Shield when it first premiered a year and a half ago and I hated it. But due to my boredom and the fact that it was on Netflix I decided to give it another chance/ if you were like me and stopped watching it after the first few episodes I am telling you to give it another chance. Seriously it is such a good show and season 2 is incredible. I hated the actress who played Skye and she has gotten way better. Make it to the second half of season 1 and I promise you you won't be disappointed. I am so glad I kept on the first bad episode because now it is by far one of my favorite shows. The actor who plays Coulson does a fantastic job. Hail Hydra
