And Im not even sure about the rules
20 November 2023
I saw this for the first time a long time ago, and the magic of it then is still there and mesmerizes me still every time I see it, and there have been a lot of those over the years.

The wonder, the story, the magic and within all that great acting and a wonderful story about reconciliation.

Its strange how baseball movies in general has this ability to catch the magic in all of us, of being more than a movie about baseball.

Its a story that takes its time, maybe even a story/movie that couldnt be made today. But if you take the time, it will grab your imagination and your heart forever, and ever.

Karen Pirie (2022– )
8/10
Much better than most anything else
7 October 2023
So why an 8? Its almost a 9 lets start there. Its a mystery to solve and a detective with something to prove to do it. You do get character developing and feel for, I especially like the flashbacks. Normally not something that works but for this story it really does. I like the slow pace and the story around the edges to get a better feel for the main story. What is missing is the setbacks from making it a 9-10, the frustration of the puzzle for Pirie and for us. Also you figure it out to early and the mystery for the viewer is taken out too soon. The one thing it does really well, much better than in most other series, is to make you feel and get to know the victim and root for Pirie to find the killer and it takes it to a conclusion not ending with the arrest but at least a little fill out some blanks.

Not as bad as some make it out to be
23 September 2023
So is it a great movie? No it isnt, and why they made his god daughter so unlikeable at the beginning is beyond me and I dont get the idea about the sidekick. But the story is fine, even pretty good, and I like the twist at the end, actually very clever by the writers. Indy is old and partly behaving as it, and that is fine, what did you expect. But he isnt totally a cripple either, and my dad in his early 80s was still pretty strong and fit. But as some have said, the beginning was pretty good and the last third as well, but the middle is pretty bad. So why a 7 and not a 6? Its Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones, that ups the mark a bit.

Its fine but promised more
19 September 2023
First of all, there are som reviews here that are negative that are just Russian propaganda at best. Its full lies and half truths promoting the Russian narrative. As for the movie its a 7 for the fact they were there and the footage they took, as a documentary its a 5-6. Most of all it lacks depth and analysis from politicians and experts from the west on the military and political side leading up to the war. Its a little to much look how great we are who made the movie and the focus of a real documentarian is the subject, not the creator. There are a lot of interviews with ordinary Ukranians and governmental ukrainians that saves the movie, but a stronger message could have been sent by showing and destroying the Russian lies and have them as a comparable, not in the least showing all the atrocities that Russian troops committed in places like Bucha.

Its fine but its not Justified
19 July 2023
So Raylan Givens is back, and I have been waiting so long to see it. Raylan is almost like himself, but not quite, but the side characters are pretty awful. There is the spoiled daughter who hasnt got a care in the world and who makes you want to puke, and the villain is dangerous but he sure has no charm, were is Boyd Crowder when you need him? Its only been two episodes but the plot isnt very interesting either, where is the heart among all the violence, the banter and the comebacks from the other cast towards Raylan? So why a 7 you ask? Its just two episodes in and it is Justified so Im giving it a break, any other show like this would get a five and a channel switch. I sure hope it gets better.

So this is ruined
3 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First 3 episodes were great and now this. If he is who the story say he is then this is a stupid twist and if she is who the story portray her as she wouldnt do this either. In the story he is a very dangerous man who wont stop at nothing. Also, she has nothing to prove she is who she says she is, only a passport that doesnt even have her picture in it. Doing what she did, the main character would just threaten to kill her son and then torture her until she gave him the password because she is threatening his world and child and if the charcter stayed true he would stop at nothing.

Maybe its a 7 but I was so surprised I gave it an 8
20 May 2022
So its a silly story, and when it started I saw it was 2 hours and I thought how can they make this story 2 hours, this will be a drag.... But it wasnt, its actually very good, its very well written and they have very cleverly used the combo of english and spanish to make it funny. The casting is excellent and the ending isnt ruining the movie. For the kind of movie it is, its actually one of the better in recent years.

Reacher (2022– )
8/10
Its pretty good but there are some problems
10 February 2022
I really like the Reacher books. Im a neanderthal after all, and since its a series covering one book they can take their time, which is good. Its been a while since I read this book but I think they follow the book ok as far as I can remember. The script is ok, but not great, the fight scenes are pretty good, the viciousness is accurate of Reacher but the CGI in the warehouse fire is terrible. This brings us to Reacher himself and the portrayal is ok, but I have two problems first he is to good looking, he is the Hollywood version of Reacher and while the book Reacher isnt ugly he isnt this stylized version. My second problem is that while the fight scenes are pretty good, and acted in themselves, what is missing is that rage feel you get from the books. The Reacher in the books isnt just brutal he is rage personified, when he fights he fights like an animal, for his life. This is something that Ritchson just cant give the character and its what an actor like Denzel Washington or Christian Bale can. I would have prefered an actor like Liev Shrieber or Vince Vaughn but I guess they are to old and not beefy enough, but being Reacher isnt all about muscles its about a guy who not only will beat you to death but who will still hate you when he has, thats the real Reacher his enemies meet and that is why he is a guy to be feared. Cruise actually did a pretty good job portraying this, but there is only so much a guy being 5'7 can do. One final thing, the series is better than the trailer which was awful.

So season 2 is out, and I must say that I like this season a lot more than season one. The storyline is more interesting and the side characters as well, so its a weak 8 so far. My major problem may seem stupid , but with the budget they have, why cant they run and drive faster. It seems stupid to jog out of danger or do 45 mph in a car chase and there is the thing of shooting at cars like they are bulletproof.

Impressions after first episode
20 November 2021
So Im a fan of the series, books that is and here are my first impressions in short order.

The good
  • The magic part is shown well
  • Pike and Lan does good job
  • Nynaeve, Perrin and Mat are ok portrayals.

  • The CGI isnt as bad as some say
The bad
  • Rand and Egwene are bad castings with no chemistry, sorry, terrible casting, especially Rand, reminds me of the casting of Hayden Christensen in Star wars, terrible
  • Dont get the Perrin wife inclusion
  • Dont like the voice over, put the narrative in the story and trust the script
  • Ah cant do that, bad script writing and dialogue.

Disappointing considering the budget but not terrible. Would have been better of doing a smarter LOTR intro to set it up and then go into the story.

So I raised it to a 7 from a 6 since I think the atmosphere was better in episode 2-4 however I stand by the rest of the review in fact I even more dislike some of the casting.

So after episode 5 I lowered the rating again, Loial, what a joke. Rand and Mat going to Tar Valon and not Caemlyn and Finally Perrin not meeting Elyas.

The writers are wasting a good book and the cast just isnt up to the task with a few exceptions like Moiraine, Lan and Egwene.

The title is the same
1 July 2021
Other than that, not much. I had high hopes for this when I heard it was being made and I love the books but the films have been average at best but this was the worst of them all by far. While the book has some interesting story lines the movie only has one and neither that or the characters are believable.

Its good but its not John Wick
18 April 2021
I have been waiting for this since the trailer and the movie is good as an action movie and Bob Odenkirk does a more than good work with the character, however, you dont get the aura of similar movies like John Wick or the Equalizer, and the cast around him is almost nonexistant due to the script , its Bob and then nothing else, so if you want 90 minutes of fun and action go for it, if you want the same thing but with a much better script, then see John Wick or The Equalizer.

So I saw the trailer a while back and thought it was stupid - Boy was I wrong
1 April 2021
So I saw the trailer and didnt find it interesting, then one night, after I gues 2-3 episodes, I had nothing to do and it came up as a tip to watch. Well how bad could it be I thought, turns out not bad, not bad at all. Alan Tudyk does a masterful job at being the alien and the cast around him is good to but its Alan who is the cherry on top. The story is a little quirky but its really a lot of fun to watch, mixed in with a little drama. There are some cliches of course but at the same time its like nothing out there in my mind and I found it to be a breath of fresh air in the comedy drama genre.

Could be so much more
16 March 2021
The plotlines are interesting, I really like Kristin Kreuk and the rest of the actors are fine. But she is just so stupid it makes you squirm in your seat, Im not saying that she should figure it all out faster but she acts like sje isnt part of the real world and at the same time she is supposed to be this very intelligent and smart lawyer, instead she acts like she is 15 and not doing the female gender any favours (sorry about this but I just found the reference very appropiate).

So much promise....
15 March 2021
So for about 1,5 episodes its pretty good, and then its just collapses. The cast is fine but the script is just trying to do to much and leaves a lot of questions unanswered afterwards.

Thought provoking and daring
4 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fantastic performance by Carey Mulligan in a great script and directed movie. The other actors, mostly low levels, are good as well but Carey steals the show. Its a too relatable story to dismiss with Careys character taking action against all these nice guys in general and the gang in particular. The ending is a little sad but at the same time the ultimate bitter ending/revenge.

Self irony from a female comedian concerning our basic urges
20 September 2020
I think this was very good, you get it from a womans perspective, sure its gross but so is really the subject and she makes the gross funny from a personal view. She talks a lot of sex but I didnt found it vulgar as another comedienne might. Her timing is excellent and to me she is full of irony and satire and self depreciating in a fun way. To like it you need to like dark humour, to me the absolute best female american comic.

More sad than comedy
10 March 2019
Ricky is my favourite comedian, its that dark sarcastic humour that gets me, "because its true"

I think the series is really good, I just have a hard time putting a ten on such a sad story, but it does have a glimmer of hope at the end and I cant wait for next season. No only Ricky is good, but they have done a really good job at casting and among all the great performances the old lady who lost her husband really stands out. She in the end gives Ricky meaning in his life and the road to get there is truly some great writing and acting.

Thank you Ricky for this sad duckling that turns into a potential swan at the end.

Same but maybe better
13 April 2016
I really like this, there is a special mystique when it comes to the feel of the series, almost like season one of True Detective, but not quite as good.

The two main actors are great and they feed of each other with their own set of problems. The story is slow and deliberate and the characters/actors enhance the feeling of the series and you really feel for them.

The story in itself is well written and told but the real attraction are the main characters, in a way they are the story. I really like the slow pace and deliberate suggestive story telling. The casting couldn't ask for anything more.

Really terrible
19 March 2016
I really like Chloë Grace Moretz, but she is really bad in this movie, the acting is not credible at all, some of the others are OK but she is not.

I saw the trailer and was cautious before the movie but it was even worse then I thought it would be. The premise of the movie in itself wasn't bad, and the story as if unfolded wasn't that bad either, it was just that the execution of it that was terrible. I also didn't like the end, what happens next? how could they possibly go from where they are? Also what happened with her friend?

The whole movie was just stupid in all its execution failing in every aspect of what it tried to do, and a beautiful face just cant make a whole movie. The movie was so bad they had to do a voice-over to explain it.

Very good concept, bad execution
21 December 2015
I was really looking forward to this, love Simon Pegg, but it was in all a big failure. Sure you can look at it but in the end it fails on its promise on all accounts. Simon plays a man who gets special powers and then the movie falls into the all American trap of making it a slapstick movie instead of writing something clever and funny. It also involves a former lover of Simons love interest who is just to much, again, all American = to much of everything. In the end you know how it all ends up and you see the ending knowing you just spent a good while looking at something that was really bad that could have been something really good.

Backstrom (2015)

Not House but still pretty good
24 January 2015
OK, I loved House, and Hugh Laurie was great at delivering the lines. Lines That were better at being sarcastic and funny, also House had heart, maybe Backstrom will too when we come into the series. But Backstrom is still refreshing considering the competition, since after House there has been nothing like it. So even if its not House its better then the rest that is out there, and thats not to bad and its good enough for me. I agree that the characters surrounding are not great and actually agree with some other writers, but who are we kidding, the supporting cast for House weren't that great either compared to House himself. I think for Backstrom to we really great he needs someone to be as sarcastic as he is but at him to throw him off his game a bit.
