Bloodthirsty (2020)
Not as bad as people make out
Unsure why people are hating on this so much, ive seen films a million times worse.
It is not a massive budget, action/horror flick. It is a slow burner and has a nicely written story to it, there's nothing wrong with any of the acting in it, the only downside is some of the script is predictable however it did catch me off guard at one point.
A lot of the music in it is very much in the style of a lot of modern female singers. Not always my cup of tea but there wasnt a song or section i didnt like. The singer reminds me of Billie Eilish style in the new Bond track.
Shuffle (2011)
Wow.. what a gem of a film
This film was really good, it reminded me of the old series Quantum Leap, which is not a bad thing.
Nicely written and directed, altbough the pacing does suffer a little in the middle even though it is only 80min long. If it hadn't then I'd have easily scored this 9 or 10
Be warned, this definitely tugs at the heart strings in a few places.
Halloween Kills (2021)
People clearly failed to understand what they were seeing.
This film was both physically and mentally brutal and very cleverly done in many ways. Sadly a lot of people have failed to understand what was being portrayed in this bridge (it is the mid part of a trilogy after all) and seemingly have no idea about 3 Act structure which these films are seemingly also performing as a whole as well as within their stories.
I guess the low reviews are from people who just wanted 100 minutes of Stalk/Slash/Kill and they didnt understand the rest of the story so scored it low.
You have to use your brains when watching this, the challenges of the police, families, the townspeople and how they are affected by everything that is going on around them. If you are here for 100 minutes of meaningless death then you wont figure out what is going on in front of you - sadly that actually backs up some of the social commentary that is made in this film. The selfishness, the narrow mindedness, the tunnel vision, the typical "shoot first ask questions later" way that is intrinsically part of the good 'ol USA.
This film is far better than many realise.
Wrong Turn (2021)
Not as bad as the cry babies make out
Its a reboot that isnt the same as the original, strange enough that's the idea of a reboot! All the cry babies seem to forget this fact and they would probably whinge if it was an identical remake as well.
Some nice gore in it and a different concept.
Broil (2020)
Better than I expected! Nowhere near as bad as people are making out
First off there were some minor sound issues with the speech, my ears didnt bleed with the music, my windows weren't shattered nor did i end up deaf. These people are massively exaggerating!
Those saying it didn't make sense(or sence as a few put) clearly only watch Marvel films or have the vrain power of a pea.
You do have to concentrate, there's lots of subtle hints in the film as to what is going on. There are 1 or 2 bits open to interpretation but that is it, everything else is clearly explained by the end of the film. You just have to watch it all and not look at your insta account whilst its on.
It was almost a 7 except for the couple of sound issues and the odd open part of filming. A couple of scene/edit changes and this would have been a solid 7.
Spookers (2017)
Wow! This was fantastic
I watched this off hand this morning. I'm injured so not much else I can do with my days at the moment.
I sat there expecting, well I dont know what I expected to be honest but what I got was nothing that I would have prepared myself for.
I thought I'd watch a film about a scare attraction, what I was drawn into was a film about a massive, very close knit family who work for a scare attraction.
I had more attachment and interest in the people in this film than any film I've ever watched. I laughed, I really laughed, I cried, (I'm not normally a cry person at films) I genuinely wanted to meet and spend time with these people.
The history of the business was great, the history of the location and those who both served and were held there was gripping.
This is a film about peoples hopes, dreams, their troubles, strengths and weaknesses.
I wholeheartedly recommend this film.
Them (2021)
Horrifyingly mediocre
Don't believe the 10/10 reviews or the 1/10 reviews, this series was neither that good or that bad overall. In places it was definitely, but overall it sits at a solid 4-6/10.
The problem with "THEM" is it is tries to be too many things and it doesn't excel at any of them. There are parts of this that were really funny, well scripted, well shot. There are parts of this that are absolutely gut wrenching and well acted.
Sadly there is a higher percentage of it that is either badly acted, badly written, has incorrect items/props for the timeline, is badly paced, boring, makes absolutely no sense to the plot/subplots or just disappears up its own backside because it tries to be the next Ari Aster/A24 arthouse masterpiece.
Because it tries to be so many different things, it ends up failing tragically at being what it should have been. This should have been brilliant but I'd be an absolute liar if I said it was, or if I said it was anything near brilliant overall.
There are standout episodes, the first is certainly one of the best but it deteriorates into a shuffling dirge for the best part after this episode. There are some scenes from this series that will absolutely stand the test of time, they will be remembered for years to come, and rightly so as this series does tackle some extremely painful content. Alas, the rest will be forgotten.
The Sleeping Room (2014)
It's half bad and half good
The idea behind this film has real promise to be a good movie. Some of the pieces that show the past were excellently done and some of the acting was quite believable.
Sadly these good parts are let down by a bad script for most of the film, bad acting from key members of the past and direction/photography that is more suited to a soap opera.
Id like to see this remade with a more experienced team on board and a script rewrite.
Sputnik (2020)
A little russian gem!
Most English language films cant hold my attention nowadays, so it says something when a russian film with english suntitles can keep me.watching.
You connect with the characters, both the protagonists and antagonists and understand why everyone does exactly what they do in this film.
The only downside is its a little drawn out in the middle, other than that its a smashing piece of film.
Downrange (2017)
Nice idea, poorly executed
A group of teens pinned down by a sniper in the middle of nowhere.
Story starts quite tense but gets very dull very quickly, as theres no real character development, just the same thing over and over. This is further hampered by some bad acting and impossible shots being taken from where the sniper sits
Some nice special effects though
Turistas (2006)
Dull as used dishwater
This is a 100min film where virtually nothing happens in the first 60min, then you get 10min of potential horror and 30 min of more boring screentime. Obvious bad choices, obvious plotlines and obvious outcomes
The practical effects are what you would expect. The acting is sub par, you literally dont feel anything for the main characters at all.
Typical yawnfest
Summer of 84 (2018)
Nothing new to see here.
Pretty dull, painfully slow pacing in this all seen before, coming of age story.
Its basically fright night, stranger things and a few other 80s films thrown together. Only they were all done better
Watch if you must, dont expect a horeor because it isnt, its a teen film with mild suspense
Wolf Creek (2016)
Yawnfest
John jarratt is great as Mick Taylor but just isnt given the opportunity to horrify us in the series. Its just boring, total opposite of the films, slow, predictable, dull.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Awesome!
This film is not a star studded Oscar biopic, but good films don't need to be!
It has a simple plot that is carried out well and Cage delivers without uttering a single word throughout the whole film and without going completely off the wall, I'm not a massive fan when goes full Cage and he hit the sweet spot in this.
The effects are good, the colour visuals are good, the soundtrack is great and you'll be singing the creepy signature song for a long time.
The film has the feel of many genres, a bit of grindhouse, a bit of b movie, a bit of western, a bit of horror etc
I hope this is an upward direction for the director and not his peak as I'd like to see more at this level from him
Color Out of Space (2019)
A massive, unoriginal yawn-fest
This was a horror alright, horrifically written, horrifically directed, horrifically acted. It is essentially The Thing crossed with a magenta light bulb.
These films seem to gain popularity purely for Nic Cage and his ability to over act even the simplest of things. His standard facial contortions appear regularly as does several moments of overly enthusiastic anger.
The plot is dire, the film has zero flow and you really dont connect with any of the characters, cgi effects are SyFy channel worthy, at best and the remaining are stolen from John Carpenter
The director should have stayed retired, the last half decent film he shot was Hardware and at nearly 30 years old that is still better than this pile of junk
Wolves (2014)
Typical Teen American style
Not the worst film and not the best, it is definitely a Vampire Diaries-esque style wolf story. Usual wooden acting from Momoa and the lead male, but its watchable if you appreciate it for what it is.
This could have been improved if they'd dropped some of the hammy teen scenes and gone for a vicious 18
PazĂșcus: A Ilha do Desarrego (2017)
Vomit and Despair would have been more enjoyable in real life than watching this...
The ratings are clearly pushed by friends of the cast, or by the cast themselves.
I like indie films, I give credit where credit is due - this deserves absolutely no credit whatsoever. Whomever gave this person a camera deserves to be shot, all of the cast who stupidly gave their time to be in it, should be shot.
This was absolutely, 100% the worst "film" I've ever seen. Nothing made sense, nothing ran in any particular order, scenes like the beach dance bore absolutely no relevance to the film at all.
Don't watch, trust me! A severe case of genital rot will be more enjoyable, I promise you will find more satisfaction nailing your eyelids to a wall.
If anyone allow the "director" of this film to do anything else... they deserve to be shot.
Pitchfork (2016)
Absolute blast!
Read the negative reviews, then remember that this film is independently financed, it is independently written, designed, filmed, edited etc etc It does not have the mega bucks from Hollywood, it won't have the A list actors in it, it won't have millions spent on post production effects and tidying up.
What is does have is some great nods to older films and was genuinely far better than I expected it to be. If you love the 70's-90's style american teen slasher genre (think jeepers creepers, jason, freddy, leatherface etc) then you are likely to love this film and respect it for the fact it is an indie film. It is heavily influenced by that genre, and no-one can deny it.
I genuinely hope there is a sequel planned!!!
