Okay, wait a second. What's with all the negativity in the reviews?
Think about it. People gave it a 1 star out of TEN. ONE OUT OF TEN? How bad can this movie be? What did the movie and the characters do to you? Look at the 1 star overall rated films. Any movie who even CARRIES the title STAR WARS does not deserve a rating below 5 stars in my opinion, but ONE? The movie, never ever can deserve a one star out of ten.
Okay, so to start off, as someone who watched the movie 3 times now (2 times IMAX 3D, one time 3D), I must say that I also do believe that the plot was questionable, however, whats the big problem about it? Yes Rey reminds us of Luke, with where she came from and what her mission is, and yes there is a new death star but come on people, what did you even expect? The new death star is there, however it's way more powerful and its destruction is used as a tool to represent the transformation of Kylo Ren into a serious sith lord, and the first order to a serious representer of the dark side. And to people who were talking about how whiny and immature Kylo Ren seems like (as if Anakin Skywalker wasn't whiny), you obviously are not aware that he is trying to find himself as a powerful sith lord, just like Rey tells him when she says "You're scared of not being as strong as Darth Vader". He still "has light in him" and he is trying to force himself into the dark side. OF COURSE HE'S GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT AND OF COURSE IT WILL MAKE HIM LOOK WEAK. Plus, of course he will wear a mask because he's THE STONGEST OF THE KNIGHTS OF REN. Thinking about the last scene, yes, it indeed is a bit off that a sanitation storm trooper can use a light saber, I'll give you that. But, Rey being able to use a light saber is not that off. She has a staff. I know its not the same thing with using a light saber, but at least it is obvious that she can hold a stick to use in combat. Plus, Kylo Ren had not one, not two, but THREE ınjuries coming to that battle, and his intention was NOT to kill Rey, but to advise her to join the dark side. The X-Wing fighters were criticized to be similar with the other movies. Wow. Were they supposed to create a new way of fighting in space? The rebellion is not rich. Of course their vehicles will be old.4
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and every single old cast member adds the spice and the salt to the movie. I loved their appearances a lot, and I think it really helped the nostalgia layer to build up.
JJ Abrams does not have a magic wand that will create a new Star Wars. I think, he did a good job while rebooting the series, and I don't think anyone else could do it better than him to be fair. The movie, with all its flaws (especially some exaggerations in the plot, and the real fast development about the First Order and Kylo Ren)is a solid 7.5-8 out of 10. Anyone who rates this movie below 5, or even 6, is just terribly exaggerating some of the plots flaws and disregards every single nice and beautiful thing about the movie.
I loved it. It gave me shivers, and I couldn't stop my face when I was stupidly smiling while the entrance text was rolling in. The movie alone also cannot be completely reviewed without watching the whole trilogy, since we cant know how the plot development will be like once the new trilogy ends. I am incredibly hyped for Episode VIII, which I think will even be better than this movie since we'll learn more about Luke, Rey, The First order and Kylo Ren.
PS: One terrible plot development was when the republic was completely DEMOLISHED by the Starkiller, but, there's nothing we can do about it, and there's no excuse for that... It is actually one of the reasons why people got irritated from the plot.
