Moonhaven (2022)
8/10
very cool overall
13 September 2022
I don't get where all these negative reviews are coming from. The series has an intriguing idea/concept that represents the colonization of the moon from a whole new perspective and which slowly builds momentum, it was very well executed and the scenery/location was captivating. It was actually one of the few new sci-fi/space related series I really enjoyed and watched till the end. Sure it doesn't have the extremely high budget that other series benefit from and some fighting scenes/shooting scenes could have been more realistic, but I really enjoyed the idea, the scenery and the leading actors' performances. Would definitely recomment it.

A korean let down.
9 August 2022
I'm usually a big fan of korean movies, but this one was very disappointing. I thought only the Americans made ridiculous and unrealistic action type movies, where a single person murders entire armies (ex. John Wick, Die hard and so forth), but these guys took it even further beyond that. I include in the negatives the propaganda against North Korea and this ''alternative'' direction that made my head spin throughput the movie.

Couldn't even make it through the first episode.
10 July 2022
I don't know that these reviews are on about. The 8.8 rating got me into watching the first episode, but after I saw how bad the acting, dialogues, special effects, atmosphere were, I gave up. 3 is the maximum I can give. 8 seasons, for what ??

Very intriguing thriller.

I literally can not understand the very negative reviews people are giving. It seems that they are so accustomed to american-made superhero movies/series, that they can not watch something different or foreign. This movie has all the elements (plot, acting, atmosphere, plot twists) that render it a very enjoyable watch. Well done.

Not what I was expecting.
10 July 2022
After I saw the 7.7/10 rating, I thought I could give it a shot. So but after I finished the first season, I can't say I feel intrigued at all to continue watching. The series is quite boring, offers nothing new or original and, for the love of God, it is not scary/spooky at all. I struggled to finish the first season, something made a bit easier by the decent performances of the leading actors. 6 is the maximum I can give.

That is not how you write abstract backstories for characters...
3 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Somewhere near the end of the first half of this movie, something really bad happened to me.... I got bored, and i mean really bored.

The reason?

This movie in its entirety is seeing two people, a father and his daughter, running away from other people and, as they admit to themselves, not knowing where exactly they are going.

And that's the problem. We are given so little to care about these two charactes and their unusual struggle, especially for the father, Will, who is essentially the reason for their constant running. As far as I know, we only learn two things about him in the entire movie: 1) he has lost his wife. 2) he is a military veteran. And you have to understand that the second thing is revealed only near the end of the movie.

Now, I understand that this movie is about the father having PTSD, but the way they presented it was just awful. For the biggest part of this movie we have absolutely no clue why the father is taking all these dumb and incosiderate to his daughter decisions and actions. At the point in which we can start guessing what his deal is, it is all over.... I have lost my interest for the character, if I ever had any, and generally, I simply could not find myself caring about him at any point in this movie. His daughter, Tom, isn't that special either. Most of the time she just follows her father around without ever being able to communicate her thoughts with him properly, getting herself in danger because of her father's stupid decisions and only taking a stand at the end of the movie, refusing to follow him any further. These two part ways and.... the film ends. And when you lose interest in the charactes, when you refuse your viewers some additional information to keep them invested, that's what happens: the story becomes just that, two random people running around with no purpose...

It's also worth noting the way other people are depicted in this movie. Again, I understand that the story was trying to contrast the way the father was seeing the world and the reality where people can be welcoming and make you feel like home, but........ why was everyone so damn nice? Everyone is so nice that it ends up feeling forced and contrived. This is better illustrated by the scene with the bees. Tom lets the bees sit on her hands to show her dad that, just like the bees which don't try to sting her, a community, other people's warmth will not harm you. But that's another problem: bees WILL try to sting you! It's not all sweet honey! So the way they depict other people here shows either wishful thinking, in the best case or in the worst case, naivety.

What really kept the movie going for me was McKenzie's performance. Foster did a decent job I guess, but nothing special.

Cinematography was also competent, though I did feel like some scenes were longer than they should have been.

All in all, by no means this was a bad movie. But it's also something I could not easily bring myself to recommend...

Set in the right direction for a zombie story, Got the atmosphere right, Yet still manages to disappoint...
9 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As much as i want to say, i enjoyed this movie till the end, i simply can't. Positives first: I think the creators had their heart in the right place when creating this movie. It manages to catch the idea that a zombie story is not about the gore, not about the shooting and brains flying all over the place, not uninteresting survivors with guns and more guns, running around and slowly getting eaten one by one without you even giving a damn. It's not a stupid comedy, it's not a teenage musical, it's not a teenage romance (I kid you not, such movies exist), it's not an over-the-top splatter. It's a story that manages to make you feel like such an apocalyptic setting could be real, that you could be in the protagonist's shoes. It's a story that manages to communicate this feeling of insecurity to you, make you feel uneasy, not because of the zombies, but by the mere sense that you no longer are in a friendly world. You live in a world where you are not supposed to live, with the constant fear that death waits outside your door. You feel the need to barricade yourself, to distance yourself from the perils, and, once you do that, and feel more safe, you start scavenging for supplies, and, after that, you merely hope that you have enough to survive the next die, all that without realising that this situation is slowly changing you. The dense, claustophobic atmosphere, the deep desire for security in a hostile world, the isolation taking its toll on the protagonist, which results in some amazing, full of emotion dialogues with a zombie!, this idea, the movie manages to do right, it takes the right direction and, thus, it made me really excited about what it's gonna do with it. Unfortunately, this excitement lasted mostly for the beginning of the movie... Negatives: Starting off with this idea is a good sign, but after you have established it in your movie, what then? What does this movie do with it? Well, nothing really. At least nothing interesting. In fact, i believe that the writers just did not know what to do with it, how else to explain the things that come next? There is a complete filler scene with the protagonist, Sam, spotting a cat and then venturing outside of his house to catch her while putting himself in moral danger. Not only is this scene completely pointless, since the movie had already established that Sam felt terribly lonely, by showing him speak with the zombie, but it also makes little sense, because later in the story a certain character suggests that they should try and escape by jumping across the rooftops, and Sam is like ''You crazy? That's dangerous!'', and I'm like ''Right. Not that you almost killed yourself once by willingly going outside and trying to catch a cat...'' Speaking of that certain character, oh boy, here start the ripoffs. So a woman appears out of nowhere, she gets shot and dies, but Sam starts hallucinating conversations with her. She tells him that his way of living is futile and that he should try to look for hope outside of his apartment, by escaping through the rooftop. Now, when i say ''rip off'' I obviously refer to ''I am Legend'', both the novel and the movie adaptation. Here, check the similarities: (IAL)(novel) The protagonist realises that this is not his world anymore, and left with no other chance suicides - Sam has the same exact realisation and even says it out loud to make it clear to us. (IAL)(movie) The protagonist talks to mannequins to keep himself company - Sam talks to a zombie (IAL)(novel) The protagonist befriends a dog, but it dies within a week because of infection - Sam tries to befriend a cat but fails to capture her! (IAL)(movie) The protagonist meets a woman who tells him that he should not abandon hope - Sam meets a woman who tells him the same but this time she is a hallucination. It should be obvious that after a certain point the movie felt extremely uninspired and dull to me. I couldn't really feel for Sam anymore, especially after the zombies managed to break in, just because he played his drums for way too long and attracting too many of them! Also, I realise that writers nowdays do whatever they want regarding the zombies' behavioral patterns, but i will never be able to understand why the zombie he had been talking to did not attack Sam when he freed it! Does that mean that in this universe zombies can develop feelings? And why did the zombies not eat that cat? Are they picky eaters? Even the last chase scene was not enough to rekindle my dead interst. As for the directing and cinematography, they were both good and really helped setting the atmosphere. I would dare say that, from a cinematography perspective, the scene in which Sam visits the rooftop for the first time was great, as it really manages to give you this feeling of being in a completely empty city. Well done there! The soundtrack on its own doesn't leave much of an impression, though. I could say that the main performance was pretty decent, but at the same time i was not impressed. All said and done, this movie is certainly not bad. It had its moments and its positive aspects, the strongest being, in my opinion, the establishment of the amazing tone and atmosphere in the first part of the story. However, the initial tone falls short as the creators do not seem to know how to utilize it correctly for the other parts of the movie, basing them on pointless, ripoff and cliched ideas, ending up uninteresting to watch. If you are like me, however, and prefer a mild, slow going, atmospheric and character based zombie story, without excessive gore, then by all means give it a try. You may enjoy it more than I did.

Real World Event. No Real Movie Substance.
7 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to start this by making a somewhat weird statement: this movie would have been much better should the developers had decided to make it a thriller and not a war drama! Let me explain myself. It seems to me that some movie makers think that if they take an interesting real world event and make it into a movie, then the movie will automatically become good, but that's far from the truth. Here, we have the Germans, during World War 2, killing off anyone who is deemed unworthy for their perfect society and their rationale behind this idea. Surely this is indeed an interesting concept, right? Mind you, however, that this is a war drama film which means that it needs to explore this concept through dramatic conflicts. This is where the movie fails to succeed, mainly because of its characters, especially the kids. First of all, Ernst, the protagonist, is a completely uninteresting and boring character whose only trait is to be brave from time to time and the same goes for his female friend (whose name i have already forgotten). The relationship they share is rushly developed, equally boring and predictable. There isn't much to say about the adult characters either, as they are all pretty much one dimensional. We have the ''good Samaritan'' nurse who wants to save the children in the orphanage, the ''evil'' nurse who assists in the killing of those children (yeah, masterful antithesis right there!), a doctor who is obsessed with his ideals and a younger doctor who follows orders without saying much. Noone ever managed to create a decent drama, without having well written and interesting characters to drive the plot forward and for the ones in this story i can say i didn't give a damn whether they lived or died. Acting was decent, directing and cinematography were okay, soundtrack was absent and generally nothing left an impression. Now, there were some powerful scenes in this movie, but only in terms of their shock value and, in the end, that's the only thing this movie manages to do with its concept: shock value. That's why i said it would have been better off if it was a thriller. I mean, come on! A dark orphanage, doctors doing questionable things to their patients in secret, that's pure thriller material!! In all honesty now, if you want a trully good war drama movie that contains the horrors that occured during World War 2, watch the Schindler's List, it's much better.

What is this movie exactly?
20 July 2018
In my opinion, this movie is essentially a combination of a weak, uninteresting plot and a ''trying to be unconvential'' cinematography and directing. What i mean by ''weak'' is that a similar plot to this could be found in your ordinary, mediocre action movie. If you break it down you'll just see that there is absolutely nothing you haven't seen before, one could say that it's even predictable. On the other hand, while the way this movie was filmed did manage to maintain my attention for the most part, especially with the scenes in which Joe roams the house to save the girl, the ''unconventional'' cinematography and directing end up stretching the film out and, in the end, together with the really weak plot, they might probably make you feel bored. If the creators put so much effort into making this movie look ''cool'' and ''out-of-the-ordinary'', they could have also at least tried to write a better story.

I really enjoyed the original movie and i can't help it but compare it to this one even though they are different in terms of story and meaning.
10 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What i didn't like about this one is the fact that it strayed so much from the original movie in terms of meaning. Both the protagonist and the villain as well as their motives were altered and therefore the deep philosophical meaning and its unique content was vanished... The new plot was nothing original to say the least and sentimental clichés were not absent. We must not forget though the good characteristics of the movie: I liked how the future city looked, soundtrack was cool, the atmosphere of the original movie was maintained to a certain extent, Scarlett Johansonn suited this role, and most importantly the action scenes. The action scenes who were awesome in the original movie were perfected here mostly due to amazing spacial effects (even though we did not get to see the 'massive muscle breakout'). In my opinion, not as unique as the original one, but definitely a really fun movie to watch!!!

There is a war between the kingdom of Lucis and the kingdom of Niflheim. We follow Nyx Ulric a special class soldier from the kingdom of Lucis..
10 September 2016
(2/5) For me, even though the story looks decent at first, it really stops progressing after a certain point and it gives its place to the endless battles. The story talks about the end of a war, the possibility of a dictatorship and how the common people and the veterans of the war deal with them but from a certain point it just goes on and on about heroism and patriotism.Characters are cool, i guess, but many of them nothing too far from the typical heroic characters of the Hollywood's action movies. Is the focus on battles a bad thing though from that certain point? For me,no! The graphics of the movie are absolutely astonishing, the world looks gorgeous like a magical painting and the battle scenes, one of the strongest points of the movie for me, are beautifully made and really enjoyable!! A movie worth seeing!

A writer struggles to take care of his daughter after her mother's death and also deals with mental problems...
7 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
(2/5) The movie is divided in 2 stories: the father's story in the past and the daughter's in the present. I was fascinated by the astonishing performance of Crowe and therefore i give the credit to him, to the good dramatic style of the past story and the nicely timed alternation of the stories' scenes! Unfortunately though i could not find myself sympathizing with the daughter's story because even though it tried to also have that dramatic look it ended up with an unconvincing and annoyingly indecisive character, far too many sentimentalism(which were also in the past story) and far too easily connected moments between the stories.(I also found that type of death for the father kind of cheap)... Still, very interesting to watch just to see Crowe in the role of the mentally troubled father !!!

Batman starts to think that Superman is a threat to humanity because of some events Superman participated which included the loss of many people and decides to face him...
1 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The movie from the very start tries to adopt an epic, dark and dramatic style and to talk about many ethical issues which refer to superheroes mostly. Unfortunately, it does that only at a certain and low point and that is because of the great special effects, 2 or 3 scenes with beautiful instrumental cover and some aesthetically good scenes, but most of all because of the nicely presented Luthor character. Furthermore, the movie was rather disappointing for me as the plot seemed completely unconvincing and a bit too much. Batman gets deeply affected by the news on TV and the people constantly discussing the matter ''Must there be a superman?'' whereas no one even knows if Superman did kill people or not... Batman was always the 'detective-type' but in this movie he gets deceived by the looks all the time.Anyways i don't want to go on about it, almost the whole plot feels for me like an excuse to put Batman and Superman into a spectacular fight

Suicide Squad (2016)

Officer Amanda Waller to guarantee the safety of the US forms a team which includes the most dangerous villains of the world...
29 August 2016
(1,5/5)

What really counted for me was the time from the beginning of the movie until the time the team was ready for the mission because of the nicely presented villains and the flashback scenes. Robbie's performance was by far the one that stole the show for me. Apart from these, there aren't many things to mention... The idea of the film was good but it comes down to the usual and predictable ''super-hero- movie'' plot, action which was not bad but with nothing special either, some poorly and some awkwardly developed characters (except maybe from Harley, Deadshot and Amanda), a disappointing Joker (not Leto's fault) and boring villains( i mean the witch and her brother)...

Just a bit above average for me, but maybe still fun to watch!
