I, Robot (2004)
So bad
Probably the worst film adaptation I've ever seen, as well as one of the worst films. This thing doesn't know if it wants to be science fiction, mystery, or action, and ends up failing at all three. The protagonist of the stories this mess claims to be based on is a woman, Susan Calvin, which was unusual and noteworthy when it was written, but instead we get... Will Smith. Smith doesn't even play a character, he's just himself, and the whole thing is basically one poorly written action sequence with bits of Asimov's world-building sprinkled on top for flavour. I might have enjoyed it more if it hadn't ruined the book, but it was pretty awful in its own right too. The plot is difficult to follow, the characters are cardboard cut-outs (ironically the robots have more character development than the humans), it's filled with senseless sci-fi babble and violence, the tension doesn't resolve by the actions of the characters or in any satisfactory manner at all really, and the special effects are honestly kinda "meh".
