One time watch
13 January 2016
I am unable to understand why so much hype about this movie. Only reason which I can think of why people are giving 9 or 10 rating, is lack of other options (in Gujarati cinema). Yeah, on comparative basis ("one eyed man is king in the country of blinds", this is a nice , refreshing, college , comedy movie. However, if you compare movie with others by having language neutral attitude then its a average farcical comedy. Some scenes are in fact "cheap to watch with family" : e.g. arranged marriage scene where all friends visit bride's home, men's room comedy scene at college. Can be watched once if you are a Gujarati, for others its a "must skip".

Casino Royale (2006)

Best bond ever !!
19 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Why you should "Casino Royale" ? * Positive points : 1) Bond in the making (first assignment after getting a license-to-kill ! 2) A romantic, passionate bond than a womanizer making whoopee 3) More humane bond than a macho, artificial creased spy 4) Excellent repartee between bond and bond girl 5) Thrilling chase sequences 6) Excellent, suave casino game (poker) 7) Demure sex and violence 8) Less focus on gadgetry and cars and more on a realistic spy 9)Intelligent and witty bond girl unlike a mere bimbo eye candy * Negative points : 1) interminable game of poker resulting into a mild boredom 2) length of the movie (144 minutes)

Omkara (2006)

Omkara : A Bollywood Masterpiece
7 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
My few points: 1) Vishal Bahrdwaj : Absolutely brilliant versatile person. Wonderful screenplay, crisp dialogues, and music 2) Saif Ali Khan : This is definitely the best performance of his career. Plays wily character of Langadaa Tyaagi and goes into the soul of it. 3) Kareena : Disppointing Gudiyaa kind of role, just taken for color of her skin ? Deadpan expressions where she got the opportunity in at least 3 scenes (one while explaining her love about Omi to Bhaisaab, sleepless night conversation with Indu and the last one when Omi asks about her affair with Kesu). Her incompetence is hard to ignore. 4) Vivek Oberoi : Just smiling throughout the movie 5) Ajay, Naseer and Konkona: Great in their roles, convincing and brilliant.

Music : Very few bollywood movies have narrative songs, this is one of them

Indian Audience and Indian female audience: Don't think so that it will become a great hit as Fanaa etc all. Majority of Indian crowds who like saas-bahu-baby, family, love dramas by johars and chopras won't like this movie at all. Negative tragic ending and profane, raw language won't be accepted by Indian female audience. Movie is not definitely for "family" audience and kids. But why care about them, go watch it !

Moments to remember : Usually even good movies have 3-4 sequences which you will easily remember. This one has too many i) Betting Sequence ii) Jag Ja song and its sad version repeat in the end iii) Election negotiations on the truck scene iv) Dolly's body gently swinging on the same swing she made love to Omkara on. The silence at that point when all you can hear is the creaking of the swing. The end where Omi's corpse is under the same swing. v) The river-dam scene of Langadaa and Rajju vi) Langda's numerous lying scenes vii) Crisp and rustic dialogues throughout the movie

All said, movie is definitely worth a watch !

A fantastic movie
28 May 2006
I watched the movie after reading some of the negative reviews.

Plus points

1) excellent screenplay 2) wonderful use of flashback technique right till Christian times 3) brilliant enactment by characters 4) beautiful cinematography especially night scenes 5) good length of movie, I can't think of any 10 minute cuts 6) not a single idle minute where you feel lost / bored/ unessential

Minus points 1) movie assumes you know many basic things which you might not know 2) cryptology cracking scenes are too fast especially for those who haven't read the book

No Entry (2005)

No entry is a class comedy
9 September 2005
This one is one of the most funniest movies ever seen. Salman was definitely the best. His expressions were just class. Surprisingly, Fardeen was GOOD in a comic role.He and Anil had great chemistry between them. They were class apart.Bipasha had played a striking role after a long time.Lara was very good in her Biwi No. 1 type role, but Esha hasn't got much footage.Celina was absolutely ravishing. Anil was also great. Boman Irani was also great even though he has got extremely less screen time than he deserved.

Overall this movie is both comedy and bit goofy.Salman has very little screen time compared to Anil and Fardeen. Boman Irani is grossly underutilized. This reminded me of wonderful Hindi movies in the past like Andaz Apna Apna, Hungama, Munnabhai MBBS and Mujhase Shaadi Karogi.
