The Mummy (2017)
Our family enjoyed this one.
I seriously don't understand the hate. We avoided this show for years because of all the tragic and negative reviews of it. I figured it had to be extremely terrible for Tom Cruise to get such negativity on one of his movies. Bad enough to shut down a whole line of other movies in this universe that had been slotted to be filmed at a later date. With nothing better out there to watch, we finally decided to give this movie a chance. We agreed to turn if off if we just couldn't stomach it. But for our family, this was a great film. We enjoyed the action, the humor, and the scary parts as well. Now that we've seen it, I'm so bummed we won't ever get to watch the other monster movies in this universe.
Shookum Hills (2021)
No clear view of the creatures...EVER.
The story wasn't entirely terrible, and that acting wasn't too horrible, BUT the special effects sucked. The creatures were either blurred out entirely or too dark to see. They didn't even show one killed so we could see what they really looked like. Nobody watches these kind of creature horror flicks to see blurred out images and using our imaginations to create what they supposedly look like. Trust me, there are so much better creature horror stories to watch out there, that are enjoyable, have terrifying looking monsters that can actually be seen, and have a much better story and acting. Find one of those better movies to watch and give this one a pass.
The Boogeyman (2023)
Terrible and unoriginal movie
The story revolves around a creepy monster who lurks in the darkness and kills entire families, taking out the people one by one. If only someone could remember to turn on a light that would keep the monster away.... This story was ridiculously lame, the characters were unlikable. I was literally hoping the monster would eat the oldest daughter, as she was so repulsive and rude. The monster is hard to see with the movie being so dark, but once his full body was revealed, he wasn't very scary looking at all. The only scary parts in this show are in the beginning with the little girl, when she sees the monster under her bed. The rest of this movie is lame. Stephen King should enjoy his retirement and give up writing lame stories.
Otherhood (2019)
Awful people....
Terrible Mothers and Terrible Sons, being terrible to each other (and their friends) throughout the movie, unsuccessfully trying to redeem themselves by the ending. The sons were disrespectful and uncaring towards their mothers, even when said mothers showed up to ask why they weren't even acknowledged for Mother's Day. And the mothers were obnoxiously invasive and selfish. Patricia Arquette's character's personality was exactly the same was she was on her show Medium. Rude, opinionated, pushy, hateful, and generally unlikable. She was as unpleasant as can be. The show tried to pass itself off as comedy, but the humor was nonexistent. Angela Bassett was the only classy person in this show, and even she could not save this mess.
Wolves (2014)
Disappointing...
I guess I thought because Jason M was in this, it was a higher budget film and the werewolves would actually look like werewolves, but what I got was dudes running around in weird looking animals masks that gave this film a ridiculously puppety feel. The story wasn't that great either. I feel bad that Jason had a part in this film, he must have been desperate for the money.
Zong shi Ye Wen (2019)
This movie was so bad.
What a disappointment. We have loved all the other Ip Man stories, but this one was completely ridiculous and unbelievable. The story felt silly and pathetic. Such a disgrace to have this movie linked to the Ip Man character.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
If only they had seen SIGNS....
I had high hopes for this show outshining the first story, but this story was only a smidgen better. The creature special effects were pretty amazing, if the viewers can get past the annoying children who were both hell bent on trying to get everyone around them killed in the most idiotic ways. The creatures having water as their weakness was kind of a disappointment too. Why would these creatures come to a planet that is mostly water?
Wrath of Man (2021)
Loved every second of this story.
Our whole family loved getting sucked into this action/mystery/regenge flick. Jason Statham does these genres better than anyone, and he's getting even better with age. The cast for this movie was perfection too. Doesn't get better than this.
Nocturnal Animals (2016)
This story looked promising, but it was a bait and switch.
This story was such a let down and a total waste of time that I will never get back. I understand what this story was trying to tell its audience, but the delivery totally missed the mark. The only good thing about this show is Michael Shannon's awesome character. Everybody else's rolls were lack luster and pathetic, and the story came off as lame rather than creative. And that opening. I cannot believe I made it through that first several minutes without barfing my guts out. Please do yourselves a favor and skip this mess.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Not too shabby.
This is exactly what anyone would expect going to a Mortal Kombat movie. I wish there would have been a tournament, but the the fighting in this story was fantastic. Loved the special effects too. This first Mortal Kombat movie was basically a set up to get everyone familiar with all of the characters, so they can make a sequel where there will actually be a tournament. I hope the sequel is every bit as good or better than this one.
Nobody (2021)
Phenomenal show!
I've been waiting an eternity for Hollywood to finally put out a show worth watching again, and this one filled that bill 110%. Great action, great story and I loved the way the story was told with a bit of dark humor sprinkled through it. My whole family loved it. I'm definitely buying this when it comes out on DVD.
Boyz in the Wood (2019)
Our whole family loved this show.
The pandemic has made slim pickings of decent shows from this past year, but this one was a very pleasant surprise. This story had our whole family laughing a lot, and cheering for all four of the boys' survival. This is a great movie for older teens as well as adults with a bit of a dark sense of humor.
Widow's Point (2019)
Some of the worst acting I have ever seen.
I LOVE a good spooky movie, and the trailer seemed fairly promising, but the acting of all the characters in this show was horrible. I grew up in the 80's and Craig was such a heartthrob back then, but now he has a bit of a pathetic vibe to him. This story needed a lot better acting to go along with its subpar story line in order to keep the audience from bailing. Total disappointment.
The Ballerina (2017)
Loved this little ghost story.
I was long overdue for a sad, but sweet (sometimes creepy) ghost story, and The Ballerina gave me exactly what I craved. This show isn't very scary, but it's got a lot of heart in the story it tells. Well worth the view.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
It just doesn't get bettre than this outstanding film!
Our whole family fell in love with this movie and with Freddie Mercury. I was a child of the 80's and man, did this show bring back the memories. This is a show that will be watched several times by our family. Stunning film with so much character. Definite recommend!
Isn't It Romantic (2019)
Definite Chick Flick.
This show was more for the ladies than the gents. We got quite a few laughs from this film though. Plenty of cringey and uncomfortable moments as well. Pretty decent & clean family film.
Instant Family (2018)
You can't go wrong with a Mark Walberg movie.
I went into this show not expecting too much, but our whole family was pleasantly surprised. This had all the feels you can imagine from a show about children horrifically and tragically thrown into the foster system for years. What I didn't expect were the light and funny moments here too. This is an amazing family movie. Total recommend.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Even the cat couldn't save this one.
I thought all the hate on this movie was hype. It's not. This is the worst Marvel Movie to date. This show actually hurt to watch.
The Ranch (2016)
Does Netflix really hate their shows this much?
What a disappointment this last season turned out to be. I get why they let Danny Masterson go. I don't agree with it, but I understand why it happened. In this "Me Too" climate, the show would have been boycotted out of existence if they hadn't. What I don't understand is why they had to turn the script into an unwatchable mess, making all the female characters into very unlikable, bitchy women. This season they've turned the family into uneducated hillbillies, given this show a soap opera vibe, and they've gotten rid of all the humor that kept audiences glued to the show in the beginning. It feels like Netflix has decided to scrap this successful show, so they've sabotaged it every way possible.
Rufus (2012)
This movie is called Hunted on Amazon Prime.
Our family just watched this little vampire flick and we loved it. It's a unique take on the vampire lore. It's not a huge action flick, but more of a vampire drama. The acting was tight and the story was interesting if you aren't just looking for a violent gorefest vampire movie like most of them are. My heart broke for lonely Rufus, and loved him finally finding a home.
The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Adorable Christmas Movie!!!
The world has needed an updated and amazing Christmas movie for far too long, and this story absolutely fits the bill. It had fantastic characters, a heart felt story line and adorable little elves! Will watch this one several times over during this Christmas holiday.
