actually a really good movie
2 August 2005
yay! madonna actually does have one good movie! (and yes, we are talking about this one.) she plays susan, who is the definition of a free-spirit. and rosanna arquette is just as delightful as she always is, and frankly i would expect nothing less.

the soundtrack is an 80s gem. madonna's song "into the grove" is proudly featured and really sets the mood in the club scene. and the 80s fashion provides such an effective blast from the past that one really finds himself back in 1985.

this was overall a really good movie. it was fun and the characters were likable. i recommend that you rent it for an evening in with the friends.

oh, madea!
27 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
this is a really funny movie. the story centers around Helen, who seems to have the perfect life. she is married to Charles, a rich attorney, they have a big house, she has nice clothes, cars, and basically everything she's always wanted-- except a loving husband. when Helen finds herself being thrown out of her own home in favor of her husband's mistress, she goes to stay with her grandmother madea. madea has an opinion on everything and always keeps a gun in her purse. she encourages Helen to pull her life back together and helps her see that she is probably better off without Charles. madea is an especially lovable Archie bunker styled character that says and does unbelievably outrageous things. check out this movie and see some of Tyler perry's plays! they'll keep you in stitches!

Cop Rock (1990)
cop rock: extremely underrated
21 July 2005
this show was actually better than the promos would have made it seem. it was by all means innovative, unlike anything else in the time or since. why this show failed is beyond me. the music was catchy and the characters represented the same caricatures we love to watch in law and order and shows of the like. perhaps the selling point (or point of no return, depending upon how you look at it) was the combination of the two. if this show had been produced as a run of the mill cop show it probably would have been popular, and maybe still airing today. but this was a time when the American viewing audience was not willing to take a chance on something new. while the songs used provided a great insight into the minds of the characters, they were the obvious downfall of a promising drama. please join me in my continued mourning of a show that was never allowed to reach it's potential.

Good Advice (2001)
Better Than I Expected
22 June 2005
Charlie Sheen is so lovable as Ryan in this movie! This is one of his best movies, of course after the epic Major League and Hot Shots. He's plays well with Denise Richards, although she was painfully wrongfully cast as Cindy. His subsequent relationship with Page is much more entertaining. I enjoyed Page's secretary and all her one-liners and blatant innuendos directed at Ryan. Charlie played the fallen business man very well. I adored Rosanna Arquette and still maintain that she is the only talented one in that family. Her relationship with her plastic surgeon husband was so funny... perhaps even more funny than Charlie's desperation. This film is a must-rent!

Chasing Amy (1997)
Chasing Amy: A completely underrated film
22 June 2005
One of the best movies you will ever see! Kevin Smith's writing and directing are brilliant as usual. Ben Affleck gives what I believe is one of his best performances as Holden, a comic book writer who falls for a girl who isn't exactly attainable. He spends the better part of the film befriending and eventually romancing Alyssa, another comic book writer who is also a lesbian. He finds himself in a difficult position when his best friend and comic writing partner Banky expresses dissatisfaction with the Holden and Alyssa relationship. As always, Jay and Silent Bob make an appearance, although sadly it's only one scene. Excellent film, tugs at the proverbial heart-strings. See this movie and slap anyone who compares it to Gigli.
