Designated Survivor: The Enemy (2016)
Effectively the last episode.
The premise for this show isn't very plausible, but a very entertaining "what if" that hooked me in at the start. The drama is fast paced, and our reluctant hero is perfect for the job. The political infighting in the first few episodes would be expected in real life. Although the series started out so well, it can only hold my interest as long as there's the unsolved mystery of who done it.
Well, if you watch this episode, you know the answer. They do not show a clue or hint in the story, but this episode tells you enough about the mentality/ agenda of the writers/producers that makes the conclusion of the show pretty obvious and one of those, "really? Come on!" kind of endings.
Miracle Mile (1988)
Happy Ending
From my perspective this movie had a satisfying ending, but other than that, it drove me crazy. The description already says they are in LA and they know a nuke war is starting so they need to get out fast. Well, instead of constantly running for their lives, they stop every once and a while to talk about their feelings. And every time they do I scream at the screen "THERE IS NUCLEAR MISSLES HEADING YOUR WAY!! MOVE!!!" but they don't hear me, and so, don't listen.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Funny satire, just one big flaw.
A decent comedy movie: I just want to point out that even though all news media & DiCaprio say this movie is a metaphor for Global Warming, you can still like this movie even if (like me) you know the real science and know that AGW is all bogus fear mongering.
In the movie, the science is straight forward physics and math, so it inadvertently mocks the mainstream view of the science of AGW. But if you have this point of view, there is a big flaw in the way this movie deals with the news media.
In real life the media loves pending doom and fear because that's what gets clicks. This over-the-top reaction they normally have (i.e., "the oceans are rising!", "the planet is on fire!", "climate crisis!") is completely absent from the movie which greatly weakens its satirical strength.
No Men Beyond This Point (2015)
Must see for any man engaged to be married.
After seeing the movie "A Boy and His Dog", I noticed a new genre of movies I call one liners. It is where the entire movie is just a setup for the last line said in it. This movie falls in that genre, and the line is very funny, so I give it an extra star over the one star it tries so hard to obtain.
This movie is simply a slam on men. It leaves you wondering how hard the women who made it were dumped to have this level of vitriol in their male stereotypes. That being said, I recommend men watch this movie with their significant others to see their reactions. First off, you will seem a great catch in comparison to the angry sexist characters in the story. But, more importantly, you can see if your potential mate really enjoys the movie and can take it as an indication to run away. Fast.
