Long Way Round (2004)
how daring?
Don't you hate it when you want to go on an adventure with you really good male friend and your celebrity gets in the way? All that camera, bike riding, marshal arts, life saving training almost seems unimportant considering that everyone knew they were coming. Don't break your free gear! Oh bother (I'm trying to speak British), I have to stay at someone's house instead of (fake)camping. Woe is me (on a roll), the police are escorting us through this town and traffic... I just want to have a peaceful, zen-like experience and do it like a big boy!
I won't go on but I hope some of you get the gist. Oh, one spoiler alert - Ewan is so brave he shows his pimple on camera. What a real guy!
Aloha (2015)
what a waste of talent
I would give it a 3 if it weren't for the fact that there was so much talent to be utilized. Sadly, it is the only film I haven't enjoyed with Sir Bill Murray in it (yes I have the power to Knight someone). Gladly, he was great despite the horrific writing and subject matter. I guess Bradley (it's funny when you don't use his surname - Bradley, put down that doll! :)) has reached that pivotal moment in celebrity where he now thinks, a. he doesn't have to give it his all; and b. he thinks we give a poop what he thinks. Oh well, it's just a movie. And Emma, you're always good. Keep it up.
Stay gold Mr. Murray!
Wild Horses (2015)
Way better than the current rating
I'm giving it a little higher rating than it may deserve because I can't believe the rating it currently has. This movie is very well done, good acting, and Robert Duvall is boulder among rocks. If you want to watch the same formulaic films over and over, this is not for you. I like a variety of films and this one delivers a nice drama, with good acting, almost like reading a book. A couple of the actors have English as a second language and I found that interesting and authentic. Anyway, it is a helluva lot better than a 5+. Now I have to write additional text to submit this review. I am perplexed by this obligation. I guess I'll have to add content that is not really relevant to this film. I recommend you check out all of Duvall's films, starting with The Great Santini. Okay, sorry for the last paragraph but this is my first review and, again, I don't see the relevancy of needing to submit a minimum of 10 lines.
