Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
A movie too big for us to handle
If you haven't realized it yet, let me make this clear: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice successfully managed to be the first live action flick about Batman and Superman and their clash, while it perfectly set the DCEU, introduced new thrilling characters (Wonder Woman being the best example) and showed us a true Superhero film with real issues and themes that we can relate to.
All the while being a visually stunning film (one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen), with one of the greatest scores as well and thrilling performances. I can totally see Oscar nominations for cinematography, sound editing, sound mixing, original score, visual effects, production design, hell even an acting nod to Ben frigging Affleck for his amazing performance (it'd really be a snub if the cinematography and especially the score categories don't get a single win).
Jumping to the negative(s), the only thing that I spotted was the editing, with which I didn't have any problems but casual viewers felt that it was rushed (some didn't know that the Knightmare scene was a dream) and I just acknowledged it)...anyway it's completely resolved by the Ultimate Edition (the original movie that the studio wrongly cut). The Ultimate Edition is an even better film btw which is fantastic. Some people point out Eisenberg's performance (I only saw complaints on the internet really and I've spoken with a lot of people about this movie) and some plot issues that are all resolved in the original edition, or if you know the characters a little.
Overall, it was a great movie, completely exceeded my expectations, I only have a concern against the studio because it didn't release the masterful 3hour version and because it showed us too much with the trailers and TV spots (I partially blame myself, but the temptation and hype is real so...)
+Affleck's Batman +The universe looks so comic-booky and it's AWESOME +Justice League set up +Knightmare sequence (Injustice tease? please yes) +All the easter eggs +Wonder Woman +Visual pleasure +Had 2:30 hours of eargasm +Fights were absolutely perfect...all of them +Superman putting a wonderful dilemma about god and gods' power +CGI is perfect
-Editing was a bit off for the casual viewer -Trailers revealed too much (not really a - for the film but I had to point something out)
{My +++s that do not agree with the popular opinion}
+Lex was fantastic, a powerful villain with a strong pov and a brilliant performance by Jesse +It was so interesting watching Superman become the Superman we all know, even if he steps on grey areas +Batman kills because he's seen some beep +Snyder handled some sophisticated philosophical themes in a Superhero film like a pro
So hyped for future DC films, bring it on guys!
The Godfather (1972)
Couldn't get any better than this...
I'm not gonna write another review of how great and flawless the Godfather is because there are already a lot of them and pretty much everyone knows how perfect the movie is. Instead, I'm gonna share my 17year old guy view of this masterpiece and thus i'll highlight the importance of it. First things first, yes I like blockbuster kind of movies (you know the types) and i've absolutely adored what cinema has brought in, the past 10 years... But, I've seen many movies from the 50's-80's unlike my generation and i have to say that i am fond of 2/10 of them (The 90's, especially 1994 is a happy exception). That being said you cant imagine how big it is that this movie is my 2nd favorite of all time in all of 400+ movies i've seen...! The pacing is incredible, the picture is meant to be timeless, the sound is captivating, the plot is classic, and don't get me started on the performances. Marlon Brando, the greatest actor to have walked on this earth, proved why he is the best with ,maybe, the best performance of all time. I'd seen the streetcar and on the waterfront and i could believe in my eyes... It's a shame it has a rating of 9.2/10 because it truly is at least 9.9/10... even for an objective voting. This generation that spends 15 bucks for 1,5 hour of explosions every summer and another 15 for useless moneymaker "movies" will never know the greatness of this 3hour epic... a true masterpiece!!! 10/10!
Constantine: Rage of Caliban (2014)
Another great episode from Constantine!
I was so excited and thrilled from the beginning till the end of this episode. The reasons are simple. Filled with a darker tone and including many elements of the thriller genre as much as of the mystery one as well, this episode captivates its audience from the very first moments and unexplained killings. The pacing was good, I couldn't help but notice that the directing was different, like a classic Hitchcock thriller, the acting was great as always especially Matt who absolutely killed it with his monologues and the cell scenes... One could say that the story with the kids is old and repeated but i really like how it developed into this phenomenal IMO episode... Last but not least, the absence of zed in this one is a master move in this episode because she really couldn't fit in this one and i think she would only confuse us and mislead the plot... love her and her character but this episode alone as it was, was perfect.
+great acting,+phenomenal development,+nice plot,+diverse visual style,+thrilling pacing 9.5/10
