Saul fia (2015)
One of the best from Holocaust movies
This movie though set in the backdrop of WWII at the Auschwitz concentration camp, is just not a war movie. It highlights the human emotions, in the backdrop of extreme adversity. Right from the first frame, you have Saul Auslander's (Géza Röhrig) face which takes you along the movie. There's so much going on with him, that the rebellious uprising around in the camp makes no difference to him. Humiliation, guilt, dealing with death everyday & also being an unwilling participant in these deaths has been empathetically portrayed. The movie doesn't have a dull moment even once with the last scene being just way too perfect for me!
The World Before Her (2012)
Shocking image of fundamentalists
In the first 15 mins of the documentary, I related to the ideologies of the Miss India aspirant but was awed more by the mental strength of the girls at the camp. However as the movie rolled I was shocked to learn the outrageous teachings of the hindu nationalist group. Teachings filled with sexism, hatred, killing, baseless historical references, are impressed on the minds of growing girls. Having grown up in India, it is quite unacceptable for me to see that there are people brewing such violence & hatred in our next generation. They are killing innocence & freedom. The movie leaves us with a startling image of an evolving India, a country divided into literally 2 halves!
Blood Brother (2013)
Inspiring
There our people who crib about how their life is a big waste & how ending it would be much better. . This movie essentially shows these suicidal people that being alive is a big blessing & if you have that blessing, celebrate it & touch as many lives as possible. . Nationality, religion, or any other barriers are just excuses you choose to make. . Rocky Brat is indeed an inspiration. Also watching the movie, you are sure to find some beautiful shots & a glimpse of rural south India. The narrative style beautifully captures the emotions of love, sacrifice, pain, victory. Would love to see an extended documentary on Rocky Anna life after his marriage & the kind of work that he's doing.
