Limitless (2015)
Watchable, but lacks originality and common sense
What I can't let slide is the scientific explanation for how the pill works. It just doesn't add up for me. Sure, 'Limitless' is no science fiction, but still – the fact that Brian recalled everything he has learned in his life doesn't mean he would know how to do what he did (in the pilot).
I like Jake's portrayal of Brian. I'm still not sold though, especially with the scenes he had with his sick father. I didn't feel the connection or the love they had for each other. Jennifer Carpenter, on the other hand – she's so dull and unconvincing as an FBI agent even an ordinary Plain Jane would come off as more interesting.
Don't get me wrong. The show's watchable. It is. There's an adequate amount of action and has a good pacing of events. But is it enough to keep me watching? Nope, not really. I'm probably going to watch another episode or two as it's still too early to tell. I see potential but 'Limitless' desperately needs way more twists and turns (and better actors/characters!) if they ever wish to be a standout drama in the pool of crime dramas we have on TV today.
Scream Queens (2015)
Hard to watch.
'Scream Queens' comes off as trying too hard.
I get that the show is not meant to be taken seriously and it's supposed poke fun at current social behaviors but their attempt at humor fails miserably. Instead, I get quite irritated and I find myself cringing almost half the time as the scenes are constantly silly.
The characters lack depth and charm – they're either way too stereotypical or way too weird. I've got to say though, Emma Roberts really shines in this. Her character reminds me of her role in the movie 'Wild Child' where she also plays a rich, spoiled brat. She's the one that makes the show easier to watch for me.
At this point, I don't give the slightest care in the world as to who's the Red Devil as there's basically zero build up from the get go. Such a shame as the costume, makeup and music choices were all quite wonderful. As a horror comedy, the overall lack of suspense and humor makes 'Scream Queens' unwatchable.
Or maybe it's just me.
