The X Files: Founder's Mutation (2016)
A little bit of everything.
By that I mean there is mystery, some creepiness, some disturbing scenes and some emotional ones. The mystery is around the death of a scientist, the how and the why. Which leads to other mysteries. There are some disturbing scenes of deformed children who are locked away from the rest of the world (supposedly for their own good, of course). And there is a classic, gory, supernatural death which was a little hard to watch. As Mulder says afterward, "Believe me, you can't unsee that". The emotional scenes relate to Scully and Mulder's son, William. When talking to a woman who had lost her son, Scully says' "A mother never forgets". Mulder and Scully have a discussion about William, Mulder says he has had to put his son behind him. They both separately have little "What if" visions of living their lives with William. Taking him to school, watching TV together, etc. I have to say, Mulder's visions made me cry. Maybe because it shows that he hasn't put it all behind him, maybe because William would have given Mulder a normal life. Another solid episode.
The X Files: My Struggle (2015)
Classic X Files
Wow. One of the biggest shows ever is back in a big way. The opening episode has everything you would expect from The X Files- conspiracies, alien abductions/ visitations, government cover ups, and of course, the tension/ chemistry between Scully and Mulder. I had tingles down my spine when I heard the theme music. The storyline was underway straight away, as were Scully and Mulder. It was like no time had passed at all since we had last seen those two together. But it looks as though times have been tough for Mulder while Scully has been getting on with her medical career. Skinner doesn't look any older. Has he been kept in suspended animation somewhere? This first episode of the new season has really got me excited for what else is to come. I can't wait!
Bones: The Spark in the Park (2013)
Average episode saved at the last minute.
I decided to write a review because I think this episode is better than others would have you think. It does plod along a bit and it's not a thriller, but the team get the job done. Cam gets to confront the woman who stole her identity and the team solve the murder of a teenage girl. My main criticism is Booth's attitude towards the victims father. The father is a math professor, and Booth sees his lack of emotion as an admission of guilt. Brennan tries to get Booth to see that the father is behaving just as she would but Booth doggedly refuses to see it. You would think that after being with Brennan for so long, Booth would have been more sensitive. The saving grace of this episode is the final scene with Brennan and the father. Beautiful and emotional. It's the reason this episode gets a 7 and not a 6.
