Climax (2018)
Disappointing
For a horror film with high rating, I expected to be horrified but the movie delivers nothing just boredom and confusion for me as a viewer -- if that counts as horrifying. There are some interesting credit/title sequences but that's all the positive I see in this film.
The first half of the film has no story and too much dialogue. The characters are all shallow and forgettable. They talk a lot in the beginnings. A few sequences just go on for way too long for their own good, with nothing meaningful being developed.
The second half has the characters going bananas as they're high on LSD, becoming more unsympathetic, annoying and just pure mean and nasty and screwed up. Technically they all went insane. Again not in a intertaining way..
As for the cinematography, this film uses lots of dim lighting which I'm not a fan of but to each his own.
If you want to see weird movie about people tripping on acid (in a
non-entertaining way) and the story doesn't matter much to you, it's perhaps worth a checkout. I would recommend against otherwise.
Lake Mungo (2008)
A rather dull movie.
The concept of apporaching filmmaking in a fictional story in a documentary style (aka. Mockumentary) was quiet interesting. Thsis is my first time seeing such movie. Albeit, I was disspaointed.
The first thing that upset me was the audio mixing. The choice to make the creepy drone music painfully loud. I had to turn the volume down. and back up again constantly to hear the dialogue. This takes me out of the story. Thankfully it is not worth remembering anyway..
The other disappointing thing is how the dull characters and pacing can be. They spill out words with thiis monotone with similar rythym/style of speech -- Making none of them stand out or what they say a modicum of interestingness.
The pacing is monotonous. What you experience in the first ten minutes is what you get for the rest of the film.
12 Angry Men (1957)
a great classic drama
A movie which completely blows mordern drama out of the water.
It's captivating from start to finish.
"12 angry men" is a perfect combination between entertainment, superb acting performances, simple-but-effective cinematography and a touching moral lession.
One thing that keeps it from having a perfect score from me is, due to the nature of the film's dialogue-driven narrative, it doesn't leave room for music scores to shine. Though evidently, it doesn't need music to be a masterpiece.
