The Flash (2023)
Not the best superhero film ever, not the worst either
The flash is a funny heartwarming film and one of the better dceu offerings. Is it best as hailed by early reactions? No. But it's not the worst film ever as per some of the online reactions.
The pros: Ezra Miller delivers a good performance in the dual role of past and future Barry. Though i understand some may not be able to separate his role in the film from his controversial actions irl. The film revolves around Barry and it's very much his story despite how the film was marketed. Keaton and Sasha deliver decent performances with the limited screen time they have. I would not be opposed to seeing more of Calle's supergirl in the future.
The humor is great most of the time with a couple of bad jokes here and there. This balanced out by emotional moments in the film that were mostly handled well.
The action sequences were fun and overall ok but don't really compare to some of the sequences in prior dc films like mos and ww.
The cons: I don't usually have an eye for bad vfx, but oh boy the vfx in this was distractingly bad and undoubtedly the main flaw of the film.
The cameos were unnecessary, disrespectful, looked horrible and disrupted the flow of the film. It really made me appreciate more how a film like No Way Home handled its cameos.
As with almost every time travel film, it has plot holes that I just don't have the time or energy to get into.
Finally, what would have been a good story with a good message about letting go of the past is undercut by the ending where Barry does the exact opposite. Why did he change the arrangement of the cans? Did he learn nothing?
Fast X (2023)
Just end it already
I've always been a fan of this franchise, what it lacks in writing, it makes up for with great action set pieces. That being said, I didn't particularly like this entry. The action sequences pale in comparison to some of the previous entries. The fact that it starts off with the fast five vault scene makes it even worse. Coming on the heels of a great action film like john wick I couldn't help but feel bored and underwhelmed by this. Most of the jokes don't land with only a couple of bits with Tyrese being funny. The movie also has no conclusion and just sort of ends on a horrible cliffhanger. I know it's a two-parter but the first film still needs to have an ending, something that a movie like Infinity War handled exceptionally. If there's one thing I had to say I liked was Jason Momoa's performance, you can tell he really had fun playing the role and he delivers an enjoyable performance. Overall it's just a bad movie, even for a popcorn flick.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
What Happened???
I liked the first Shazam, it was charming, funny and emotional, and one of the better DCEU films. The sequel is a step down in every aspect.
One of the biggest criticisms i had with the first film is that Zachary Levi and Asher Angel seemed to be playing completely different characters with Zachary ironically playing a more childish version of Billy. You'd they'd fix that in the sequel but no they just doubled down on it. This made worse by the fact that Levi gets more screen time and Asher is barely in the movie.
The movie has no heart or emotional core. There is literally nothing for the audience to latch on onto and consequently the movie feels so empty and pointless. The closest thing to an emotional beat is Billy overcoming his fear of abandonment but even that is skimmed over and thrown aside for action sequences.
Speaking of action, it's been a while since i watched the first one but i feel like it's worse and uninspired. The fights have no stakes or a drop of creativity in them. It's just one guy punching or blasting lightning at the other. Considering the wide array of abilities shazam has at his disposal, the action sequences have the potential to be creative and engaging but instead we end up with some very boring fights. Also how did that one god(?) rearrange an entire city block without anyone getting hurt, how do her abilities work exactly?
The villains are generic with weak motivations backed by weak performances. The movie is juggling a lot of characters and the result is poor development and little screen time for everyone. And The visual effects are alright sometimes but when they are bad, they are jarringly bad. The humor barely lands and is cringe most of the time.
Also why the hell did they spoil the ending in a tv spot. Why would you spoil Billy's resurrection and Wonder Woman's appearance in a tv spot? To get more people to watch the film i guess? Billy's death was so pointless, just like the rest of the film.
Overall, i dont think there is a single aspect in this film that i liked or had me invested. It's a shame cause i really the first one. It baffles me when i saw the director say he thought he made a good film and basically didn't understand the poor critical reception. This is one of the reasons why we keep getting terrible movies, directors' inability to take criticism. At this point i'm hoping superhero films to either get better or just die out.
Summer Time Render (2022)
RE: ZERO But Good
Basically re:zero without the isekai bs, with better characters, pacing and overall story. While the show utilizes a familiar concept (time travel) it's execution is well done resulting in a thrilling show with plenty of twists that will leaving you guessing and begging for more at the end of each episode.
It's not a "once in a lifetime super masterpiece" like other reviews seem to be claiming (seriously though why does everyone these days feel the urge to call anything they remotely like a masterpiece?), but it's a great ride that's well worth your time. I do agree it's underrated and should be receiving way more attention than it's getting.
Fargo (2014)
Great first 2 seasons
The first 2 seasons were great but damn s3 was soooooo booooooring. I gave up on the 6th episode and just looked for a summary of the ending online. Based on the reviews they somehow managed to make s4 even worse. Im done with the show at this point and won't be watching any future seasons which is a shame cause the first 2 seasons were so great.
Don't Breathe 2 (2021)
THE MOST UNNECESSARY AND FORCED SEQUEL IVE EVRE SEEN
I enjoyed the first film but there was absolutely no reason for this atrocious nonsensical sequel to be made. It doesn't expand on the original's story and just with most Hollywood sequels today it's nothing but a cash grab.
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
How are so many people giving this a 10?
The animation is the only saving grace of this movie. The story is cliche and half decent at best, the humor is absolutely terrible, so many cringe moments, the writing is mediocre. There's so many plot holes and plot contrivance, yes it's a cartoon but that doesn't mean you throw all logic out the window; 1.the robots malfunction when the see dogs that means they should have all malfunctioned due to the outstanding amount of dogs in existence, you want to tell me the mitchells are the only people who own a dog in this universe
2. A device that can be used to bypass the cages is literally put inside the cages and the one thing that can open just happens to be thing the Mitchells have been carrying. How the hell did the mother even know about the device, nobody tells her and yet she is able to free herself
3.the mother suddenly gains super strength and beats the bad robots. WTF!!
So many other things don't make sense. The rating was very misleading and I went into this expecting a great movie. If it wasn't for the animation I'd give this a 1. It might be fun for kids but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to adults.
Dark (2017)
OVERRATED
I decided to check out this show after seeing all the overwhelming positive reviews and boy do I regret it. The show has an interesting premise and so much potential but the execution is terrible. The show so slooooooooow and frankly boring. Nothing of interest ever happens, the characters just stand around and talk most of the time while reciting the same tired philosophical quoted in an attempt to appear "deep". The same "haunting" score is placed in every scene to try and create a dramatic effect even when nothing suspenseful or important is happening.
Season 3 is the worst of the bunch. As if the show didn't have enough going on already, they decide to introduce multiple realities/different worlds in the LAST season. Why tf would you introduce these "new" characters in the last season going through the same ish we've seen before?? I want to know what happens to the characters whose stories I've been following not new characters that I don't care about. This is supposed to be the last season where you finally give the audience some answers, tie up loose ends and conclude character arcs. Why did they have to make the show needlessly complicated?? WHY?? multiple worlds each with multiple timelines with no way of distinguishing them!!?? Who thought this was a good idea? If you're thinking of starting this show save your time and don't. F THIS SHOW!!!!!!
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Did I watch a different movie?
After seeing all the positive reviews for this movie I decided to give it a watch. I get it's supposed to be a kids' movie but it was really disappointing. The humour was terrible and the dialogue was even worse. I honestly don't get what people saw in it and sadly this will encourage hollywood to make more bad movies that nobody asked for. The only reason I didn't give this movie 1 star is because if the character redesign.
Community: Intro to Recycled Cinema (2015)
One of the best episodes of Community
This episode was just perfect, I couldn't stop laughing from start to end. Definitely one of the better episodes this season and a must watch.
Future Man (2017)
The show should have ended with season 1
Season 1 actually had a good and linear storyline and was actually funny and the end was satisfying. I don't know why they had to go and make season 2 and 3 because they are just terrible. The plot is a jumbled mess and half the time I don't even know what's going on anymore. The show has become painfully unfunny which is sad because I actually thought the first season had some funny moments. I usually like Seth Rogen but his "jokes" and acting is so bad and cringeworthy. Word of advice for anyone who hasn't watched the show, stop at season one and if you're planning to watch season 2 or 3 DON'T, it's a waste of time!!
Final Space (2018)
Never going to trust user reviews again
At first I was intrigued when I saw the positive reviews from most users and also learned that David Tennant was part of the cast but then I watched the first episode. The concept is unoriginal, most of the jokes(if I can call them that) are painfully unfunny, most if not all of the characters are boring, the attempts to create emotional moments fall short and feel out of place since the characters have not been developed enough for me to care for them and the same score playing through all these moments makes it even worse. I continued watching the rest of the season hoping that it would get better but the show remained stale. The half-hour episodes actually feel like hours. The only interesting thing is the sequence at the beginning of each episode which shows the main character progressively losing oxygen. In conclusion I don't think I'm going to continue watching this boring intolerable show!!!
