Haunted (2018)
I Don't Care If It's Fake So Long As It's Fun
All ghost shows are fake. There's no debate about that. What matters is whether or not the stories balance entertainment and believability. And the answer is no. It tries to stretch the audience's expectation of disbelief in order to make the stories more entertaining, but without that element of believability, the stories come off as dumb and obvious lies. It should be the goal of every ghost story to balance believability with entertainment. If you rely on either or, the story will come off as boring or unbelievable. Like I said, I don't care if the story is fake, so long as it's fun. And to me, a fun ghost story needs to have that balance of elements in order to work.
The Watcher (2016)
It's so bad its actually kind of funny
It was working up until the third act. Without giving the ending away, it's so stupid it's hilarious. Its one of those endings that makes you go, "No! They (the film makers) are not actually going to do that! This can't be the twist! It's too stupid". But guess what, they did, and it's hilarious. I will give the movie credit, I didn't see it coming (mainly because I wouldn't assume a normal functioning person would make such a twist).
Besides that, there are other problems with the movie. Like the raven itself is pretty laughable, and it would have been a lot more scarier if the villain wasn't dressed up as a giant bird. It's a shame too, because if the movie just fixed its ending and have the villain not be ridiculous looking, this could have been an effective thriller. But no.
Overall, the first act is a little bumpy but keeps your attention. The second act has your attention and you want to see where this goes. Third act nose dives off the cliff.
