Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre (2023)
A must watch for old and new fans of Junji Uto
I can't believe the negative reviews that this show is getting?! Some of them are just laughable! I thought that every episode was solid from start to finish. As a fan of Junji Uto's works, I thought they really did the books justice in their own way. I think the problem people have is the cliffhanger endings, I quite liked this as it means you have to use your imagination as to the potential outcomes of the stories, much like Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. Can you imagine if movies like The Italian Job or The Thing didn't leave you wondering what happens after the final scene?... It wouldn't have the same affect. We live in an age were people want everything all at once and straight away otherwise they're not happy. Do yourself a favour and watch this and ignore the haters.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
The Mandalorian set the bar high, unfortunately Obi Wan can't jump it.
I really hate to say this, but I find this series to be quite disappointing so far. When it was initially announced that Ewan McGregor was cast to come back to play the role of the legendary Obi Wan Kenobi I was extremely excited. Unfortunately the story so far (first 2 episodes) has been weak, and some of the acting is just laughable! Also princess Leah is just annoying and shouldn't be in this, not yet anyway. It just seems forced and pointless. Here to hoping the series improves and takes Obi Wan in another direction.
Prison Valley (2009)
Would have worked better as an audio book
There's some interesting things to learn from this documentary, but the way it's filmed seems all wrong. The documentary chooses to show still photos most of the time while the narrator tells stories of what they witnessed. Why not just film it and show us the footage? Just makes it seem empty at times.
Flight of the Phoenix (2004)
A fun to watch movie
I don't understand the hate and low ratings people that people have given this movie? To give it a 1/10 is just plain nonsense! Sure it's not worthy of an Oscar or anything but the characters are very likeable, it's funny at times with some cool action scenes. Would definitely recommend that you give it a watch if you haven't.
The Movies That Made Us (2019)
Could've been a great show
I love behind the scenes stuff and dvd extras. I was hoping for in depth interviews with the people that were involved in making these classic movies, but unfortunately all you get is little snippets of interviews followed by the annoying narrator jumping in with lame humour. You're lucky if you manage to hear 5 words from someone before the narrator jumps in and ruins it. If you want to really know more about the movies featured in this show, just watch the extras on the dvd or Blu-ray's.
