Descendants 2 (2017)
Lots of highs with a few lows
Contains mild spoilers....
I wanted to say that I love this movie series and the animated shorts that partner with it. This movie was awesome, though I will say it had a couple low points for me, one of them being the final "battle" between Uma and Mal. The CGI wasn't where it should have been but the the ending number was pretty good. Another low for me was anything with Chad, out of all the characters ever done as a part of this series, Chad was the one character that no matter what I could do without. He should've been on the trip with Audrey, who wasn't in this movie.
I also wanted to say that I know a lot of people have left bad reviews and I think that it's worth giving a chance. It is not like a lot of the other DCOM movies, which I have to say have gone downhill over the years, but this is one series that stands out and brings the imagination of DCOM movies of old. 😊
Two musical numbers stand out the most and have gotten stuck in my head in the past week and those are "ways to be wicked" and "what's my name?"
I can't even explain how happy I was when Mal went back to all purple for her hair color. That's one thing that I love about the hair and make-up in these movies, they aren't afraid to have their characters having unnatural hair colors. I know blonde is the color that Dove Cameron has on a regular basis but the purple is much more wicked. Not to mention, Uma's hair was amazing. New character Dizzy brought a creative streak to the film that started with Evie but Dizzy is a force to be reckoned with.
Lanie is awesome!!! She is so much like her mother in this movie, for those of you who don't know, her mother's Mulan. I loved her in the first movie and wished she had more screen time and in this movie that wish came true. The way she tries to make it into the team and struggles against the sexist views of a few....mainly Chad... And how she joins in the pirate fight was awesome. Her mother taught her well.
I am so glad this movie came out the way it did, except for a couple things, and I hope that they continue the series. Though with the closing line of Uma there's a good chance they will, or at least plan to.
Salem (2014)
Intriguingly dark and awesome
OK let me start off by saying that I love to look at different shows, movies, stories, etc. from different time periods in history. Now going into the review of the show. It is not historically accurate, and never claimed to be. It does however have SOME characters that were historically present at the time of the Salem Witch Trials. It is dark toned because let's face it if you lived out in those times the only lighting you had was fire in candles or fire pits. I have read a lot of other reviews and some I agree with and some I don't. It is a dark show with a lot of different mature elements: blood, gore, sex, dark magic, and horror elements. Now I will say that this show plays on the Puritan beliefs at the time of what witches were. It also played the "what if" game that "what if the Puritan beliefs were real?" And made a very interesting and complex TV series that isn't for the faint of heart but definitely makes for an interesting view. Everything from the cast, set up and outcome is very well thought out and planned. Now I don't particularly agree of perpetuating the stereotype of witches and making them all followers of Satan, but it was still an awesome show if you can get past that and the lack of historical accuracy. Worth the watch if you love horror and darker shows and movies.
