Neon Cactus (2023)
A Slow-Burn Neo-Noir Cult Classic.
This slow-burn neo-noir crime drama has such a distinct voice by writer and director Chris Zuhdi. The story unfolds in a way that keeps you guessing from the first scene to the last with excellent performances by all the cast who created some really memorable characters. I loved the cinematography, the film had a really cool look to it that took full advantage of its noir aesthetic and Americana influence. Kudos to Chris Zuhdi who did an excellent job of directing this future cult classic. I'm really curious to see what this filmmaker does next in his career. I really recommend this movie to fans of all crime genres, you wont be disappointed.
Solid Rock Trust (2022)
Wow - Blown away!
What a great movie! I watch a lot of independent cinema and am usually underwhelmed so when I sat down to view this flick I wasn't expecting much. I'm thrilled to say I was blown away. This is essentially a one-person-in-a-room movie but don't let that fool you. I was on the edge of my seat from the jump. A super cool crime dram with an awesome premise. The plot twists and turns as we go deeper down the rabbit hole with our lead portrayed by the amazing Koko Marshal. Kudos to her for her performance and incredible vocal work in the movie (no spoilers). Director Rick Ives expertly executed his vision. This movie is a thrill ride from start to finish. Must watch!
As the Village Sleeps (2021)
This teen horror indy film is a fun, and suspenseful ride.
This teen horror indy film is a fun, and suspenseful ride. Director Terry Spears and his team expertly navigate this lower-budget indy gem. What the team lacked in the finance department they made up for with a really interesting premise. The plot device, based on a popular game, keeps you guessing as its plot unfolds. Kudos to the actors who really commit to their roles. All of the cast pulled their weight and are actors to keep an eye on for the future. I think this movie will find its audience with indy horror fans everywhere. I'm really interested to see what the future holds for these filmmakers.
AVA: A Twist in the Road (2021)
A Touching story of Love and Loss
It's great to see more mature actors represented in this tear jerker about love and loss. Catherane Skillen delivers a stellar performance as a woman who's life takes an unexpected turn as well as pulling triple duty as writer and director which is never easy. Kudos! You can tell that this movies takes full advantage of its SAG AFTRA union actors who skillfully navigate their performances with ease. The pace felt good, in fact the whole movie was really well done, charming and heartwarming. This movie is a perfect film for a rainy Sunday on the coach when you're ready for all the feels but keep the tissues close as it may make you cry tears of joy.
Toxic Impulses (2022)
A Moody Crime Drama and Thrill Ride
This moody crime drama, which is pretty dark at times, is an edgy thrill ride with great performances all around.
I especially loved the bank robbery sequences which had me on the edge of my seat. I also really loved the musical score which added to the thrilling sequences perfectly. Benedikt Sebastian delivered a stand out performance as did the whole cast. The writer/director/editors voice is clear to see and marks Kyle Schadt as a talent to keep an eye on in the future. Kyle managed to keep a constant tone throughout the whole movie while handling the suspense and action perfectly. Bravo!!
The Misadventures of Mistress Maneater (2020)
A fun blend of comedy, romance and action
A fun quirky blend of raunchy comedy, romance and action with solid acting and performances by all. It was a little big long at nearly two hours but it flew by with some genuine laugh out loud moments and the ending was very satisfying. The star of this movie is Lorissa Julianas who absolutely crushes it. I've seen her before in a couple of films but this is by far her best performance yet!. With the weight of this movie upon her shoulders she manages comedy, strength and vulnerability all within her stride. First time director Cj Julianas expertly navigates the twists and turns while managing to keep a constant tone throughout.
