Surviving Death (2021)
Ok until the end
Very interesting and fun, at first. last episode was absurd. Irritatingly so. They talk nonstop about wanting scientific proof and then proceed to present stories with 0 proof. A kid who conveniently can't remember what he said as a child. If I could give this a 0 I would. Basically turned me against the very ideals they are spouting.
The Veil (2016)
Really, really bad.
Anyone who appreciates real horror/suspense will not like this film. So predictable, so unoriginal. I gave it a 3/10 and that was being generous. Makes little to no sense whatsoever. Honestly, it wasn't even entertaining in a "it's so bad it's good" kind of way. Just straight bad. Predictable from the 1st 20 minutes. In no way surprising, exciting, original, suspenseful, nothing. It had a lot of potential, and I thought the story line sounded really interesting. Unfortunately, it fell very short of its potential. It felt like it took a variety of concepts from other, better horror movies and tried to mix them together in an unsuccessful attempt.
Martyrs (2015)
Unnecessary and Plain Bad
The original Martyrs is one of my favorite movies of all time, so even though I knew the remake couldn't beat it, I still had to watch. Perhaps if the original never existed and this was the original, or if I had never seen the original, I might think it was passable. Unfortunately, the original does exist and is much, much , MUCH, better. First off, they seem to have completely dumbed-down the plot in the remake. One of the best parts of the original is that you are never completely sure what is going on or why. The remake just spills it all out as soon as possible. I don't think American viewers are dumb, so I do not know why they insist on doing this. Yes, the original is gorier and more violent. But it adds to what the film is trying to accomplish. With this film, we barely even see what horrors are occurring. My favorite parts of the original are replaced with clichéd, expected scenes. The mood and acting is reminiscent of a typical teen horror slasher flick, nothing like the original. Overall, 3/10, and that's being generous.
