Death Proof (2007)
Great movie. Old school style
***My review focuses on the movie itself&the characters(to a lesser extent),not the actors, directors,or any of that nonsense*** As a slasher movie fan,I found this movie was a slasher movie of a different kind&in less strict, looser definition of the term,as the weapon of choice is a car¬ a butcher knife,or machete. Sure,it has it's slow moments, like any good movie should(all action all the time,is very often tedious,IMO)&the dialog was'nt too bad, interesting for the most part, just a bit too much of it,at times(Kims dialog was a bit overdone, for my taste. Funny, but a bit too overdone. Maybe it was meant to be that way, though.) Many say that the first half is the boring half of the movie, but the first half,is my favorite half,as you get to see the one&only murder done by Stuntman Mike,in the movie. And it is a good one, even if not typical. Plus, the first half, just seemed a bit more complex(to a small degree)&interesting,in a 'day in the life of',kind of way, like watching ordinary people go about their day&goof off.&have their idea of fun. Not that I did'nt thoroughly enjoy the ships mast chase. That WAS pretty badass. Others can poo-poo this movie, because it's 'old-school' style, but I happen to like it&I don't base my opinion,on other peoples opinions&reviews of it. To be completely honest, this is the closest thing to a 'chick flick',that I actually like. My only true gripe,is they killed off the killer&I would have liked a sequel(just one),to see more of Stuntman Mikes...'adventures',because though he's not a typical knife-wielding slasher(which I like),he was interesting. It's an unusual movie in ways¬ a style of movie most 'movie snobs' are into,as they usually prefer more 'mainstream' stuff. I'd say give it an honest chance&maybe you'll enjoy it for what is,not for what it is'nt.
Your Worst Nightmare: While She Was Sleeping (2014)
An awesome episode.
One of my(if not my actual)very favorite episodes of this show. Detailed, informative&very well made. Talk about one very determined&fearless stalker/rapist,breaking in while the hubby is right there in the house with the woman he wants. This guy, also did other things most rapists would not have the courage to do. Not going to say what,as that would give away a bit too much, but still,just...holy crap! Such a very interesting set of cases,in many regards, though they mainly focus on the one woman. And I have to say, whoever directed certain parts of this episode, really should consider getting into making stalkery slasher movies,as well as these true crime shows. I have a feeling that person would be pretty damn good,at it. (:
Obsession: Dark Desires: Final Fantasy (2016)
Good episode.
Good episode,of one of my favorite TV shows. Nice&stalkery. But,I can't help but understand why the guy got upset with his girl, though. He goes all that way up there to see her&she acts like she could'nt care less¬ very happy to see him. Kind of bitchy&rude, actually. She seemed kind of like she did'nt care one bit, about his feelings, only her own. Not a very good girlfriend,IMHO. Seems like he was trying to be a mostly decent guy to her,but frustration&confusion with her attitude got the better of him. What I did like about her though,is she has the same ringtone on her cell phone that I do on my cell phone...the theme from Halloween. Overall,a good episode, kept my interest. Having said that,I do like the previous season/episodes,a bit more. 8 stars for it being a good episode, but not 10 stars, because they downplayed some stuff, from the actual case. I don't like when they do that.
Waxwork (1988)
Step into my parlor...
I usually prefer cheese in my food¬ in my movies, but this movie is well done&quite entertaining. I'm not going to go on&on about actors&directors&such because I don't care about all that. The movie is what I'm interested in&it is quite interesting. Waxworks are not a new concept for movies no,but this movie is the best one about waxworks, that I've seen. It just seems to have the right mix&the cheese while certainly present,is not done to that annoyingly childish 'over the top' level like newer movies do too often. Plus, there are some nice tributes to some classic characters, real&fictional. Everything from a Jack The Ripper-like character,to a suave 'Dracula'&his pretty, hungry brides. And of course,Mr. S&M himself, the Marquis De Sade, who ironically gets the virgin of the group visiting the waxwork museum, into chains&she finds she likes it,quite a bit.(; Some nitpickers may loathe the few plot gaps there are,but since the movie is so well done, you hardly notice them,IMO. You step into the display&you will assuredly pay...with your life. BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAA!
Slasher (2016)
Strong start,but...
1st 2 episodes, were pretty good&worthy of the title 'Slasher',but now seems to be too much religion&drawn out drama¬ enough stalkery/slashery-ness,by said slasher. This is just so far though,as the series is'nt over yet. Who knows,it may pick up again. I hope so,as it does have promise. I gave 5 stars, for the fact that it's not over the top cheesy, silly&annoying, like so many so called horror anything, now days&for the fact that they did'nt edit/censor the hell out of it&they let the sharp object kills&language be decent¬ overly PG. I commend them, for all of that.(: However, I took 5 stars off, because of the above reasons,of it's starting to be kind of bland, drawn out&reminding me a little too much of silence of the lambs, mixed with Se7en(both good movies,but...)¬ enough like a classic slasher. I mean c'mon, the name of the show IS 'Slasher'... I hope it gets better, rather than continuing to get blah. That would be great to have a slasher TV show worthy of being called such&also,a nice boost for all of us slasher movie lovers, out there.
Followed Home (2010)
Low budget,but good.
While many seem to have not liked this movie, for whatever reasons,I thought it was pretty damn good, for a lower budget film. It has kind of a modern, yet classic slasher film, feel to it. Don't know how else to describe it. Good music throughout too,if you like rock. I guess it's not 'tons of gore&tits in your face' enough for some. The knife kills were more implied, than seen. I like a little more to knife kill scenes myself, but still, these were'nt done too badly. Also,it's not too heavy on the 'sappy bonding moment',thing, that too many movies do with couples. Good acting, for the most part. Was'nt too fond of 'the sock part' LOL,but whatever, still a good,low-budget movie, that deserves a chance,IMHO. A fun movie.
Nightstalker (2002)
Not bad,for what it is...
This movie,is actually not bad,for what it is...a FICTIONAL version of the events. Many reviewers seemed to have been expecting real life, out of a fictional movie. Fine, that's their right&choice, but for the fictionalized movie that it is,it's really not too bad,if you don't go into it,expecting the true story...which it's not. 'Based on a true story, etc',does not always mean it is THE true story,or even the whole story,in some movies. The metal music is fitting though, since he was a satanist into metal/rock. I like movies for what they are, though&don't give a hoot about who directs them, etc. Many people are 'nitpickers',who LOVE to nitpick movies apart, rather than just try&enjoy them as they are. Whatever. I liked it pretty well, though it could have done without so much of the spazzy effects,in some parts&I would have liked more to be shown,in the kill/rape scenes, you know,to show how sadistic, violent&&terrifying he really was. No,the ending was not the real deal, not even close to what really happened, but then again...it is a fiction, loosely based on The Night Stalker,(Richard Ramirez)&his crimes, not a genuine true account of those events. If you know that going in,it might not be so bad. Give it a chance. (:
