Modern Family: Las Vegas (2014)
Season 5, Episode 18
Review of Episode and the other "review" here.
16 March 2016
The other "review" on this page, which attempts to claim that this Episode of Modern Family is plagiarized from the 'Ski Lodge' Episode of 'Frasier', is written by somebody who must be Culturally Illiterate. The Comedy Technique and Narrative Format of people going in and out of interconnected doors, with confusion and misunderstandings arising, is a Classic Comedic Technique known as a Farce. It originated in Classic Greek Theatre, and was perfected to hilarity, in French Cinema. 'Le Cage Aux Folles' is one of the best examples (Also adapted by Hollywood, in 'The Birdcage', with Robin Williams. For original American Cinema, possibly the best example of a Farce, is, surprisingly, the Sylvester Stallone film, 'Oscar'.) Pay no attention to the "review" on this page, by the person who believes that 'Frasier"....invented the Genre of Farce. That's nonsense. And the claim that the different levels of the hotel, in Modern family, being copied from 'Frasier', is equally absurd. That plot point has been used in Sitcoms long before 'Frasier' used it. Anyone who regularly watches Sitcoms, should know this. Modern family did not "copy" anyone, in using the Classic Comedy Technique of Farce, nor in using the different levels of luxury plot point in this Episode. It's a superb Comedic Episode, using Classic Narrative Themes.
