Torpedo Run (1958)
A Very Unique Story
Normally, I am not overly impressed with Ernie Borgnine and Glenn Ford. They're okay for the most part, but in this particular film they were themselves and played beautifully off each other. Very natural, which leads to a well done movie. The chemistry between these two worked perfectly, very natural.
The story line involves Glenn Ford's character, a submarine commander, ordered to take down a Japanese carrier that supposedly has 1400 American hostages on board. Four of those supposed hostages are Ford's wife, daughter and two other family members.
Ernie serves under Glenn and knows the family very well. Ernie, respects and admires Glenn and serves with considerable loyalty as all the crew does. But, Ernie feels for the family to the point that he tries to dissuade Glenn from firing on the carrier in order to try and save the hostages, primarily his wife and daughter.
Upon hearing that the Japanese Carrier has the hostages, Glenn has a decision to make. Does he take out the carrier or let it go and try to save the American hostages, primarily his wife and child? Ernie says "don't fire", but Glenn knows what he has to do and does it. Even though he eventually takes physical damage in chasing the carrier.
At one point, Ernie comes before Glenn's superior who wants to give Ernie his own submarine to command. Ernie opts to stay and serve with Glenn until the job is done.
When Glenn finds out what Ernie did, he confronts him and puts Ernie in the position, when they come upon the carrier a second time, to fire the torpedoes "in order to learn how to command". It's the last 10 minutes or so of the movie that really makes it a solid watch. By the end Ernie is ready to take command of his own sub with the successful sinking of the Japanese carrier.
The only downside to this whole story is at the end. We never find out what happened to Glenn's wife and daughter, nor the other 1398 hostages on board the carrier. So, we are essentially left hanging. It is a good movie, just kind of weak at the end.
King of the Hill: Jumpin' Crack Bass (1997)
Inconsistency In Episode Description
In the description of this particular episode it states that "cocaine" is what Hank buys from a street dealer. What he is actually given is "Crack Cocaine". Cocaine in and of itself is a powder or comes in powder form. Crack comes in "rock" form. When the dealer tosses the containers into the car, you plainly see rocks in the containers. It's crack.
Also, when you see Hank baiting his hook, he is baiting it with a rock, not powder. You can't bait powder.
Cavemen (2007)
This show is an acquired taste - not for everyone
I don't know if this is considered a "spoiler" or not. Maybe it is to someone. So I am erring on the side of caution here.
First off, IMDb's info on this show is incorrect. I have ALL of the episodes and there are 13 in all (including the pilot). The episodes are as follows:
00 - Pilot Episode 01 - Her Embarrassed 02 - Nick Get Job 03 - The Cavewoman 04 - The Mascot 05 - The Shaver 06 - Rock Vote 07 - Andy Work, Nick Jerk 08 - Caveman Holiday 09 - Nick Sick 10 - Andy, the Standup 11 - Cave Kid 12 - Hunter & Gatherers
The Pilot episode, even though it has the regular guys in the open up; Dash Mihok plays Jamie, Joel's brother in the pilot. Then, from there on Sam Huntington takes over as Andy, Joel's brother.
French Stewart - Mr Busby, Joel's boss at Norskbild is in two episodes (not one). He appears in Caveman Holiday AND Hunters & Gatherers.
Maybe only 9 aired - but to anyone who loves this show, there are 13 in all.
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Reasonable Doubts (2016)
RJ deserves an Oscar
Robert Wagner (RJ) was without question THE BEST pick for Tony's father. Weatherly and Wagner are believable as father and son. They just play that well off each other. Weatherly could easily be RJ's son in real life, that's how close they favor each other.
In the shows that RJ has been in, this one is definitely his defining MOMENT as an actor. I have watched RJ in TV shows and a few movies and this one lone episode is by far the best performance of his career. I was blown away.
Overall the show was alright (die hard Ziva fan here) and was watchable, but it was those last 5 minutes that made the entire show. RJ stole it. I hope at the next awards show he is honored for those few moments because he so deserves it.
My hats off to you RJ.
