Only 5 out of 10?
27 February 2014
I am very surprised that this is only rated as not even a 5 out of 10 on the IMDb scoring meter. This movie isn't as good as Schindler's List or anything obviously but it's not supposed to be, it is just a fun silly comedy movie and for what it is supposed to be it is a good movie and fun to watch.

Robin Williams is doing his usual stuff in this or at least the stuff he used to do all the time with the manic comic over acting and zany character work.

Peter O'Toole is Peter O'Toole and he is awesome in everything he has ever done including some great comedy work including this movie, Club Paradise.

Take it for what it's worth and have a nice simple laugh watching a fun Harold Ramis movie!

Robin Williams at his best!
16 February 2014
Robin Williams is at his best in this movie which has to b e the perfect movie for him to do. He won an Oscar eventually for the worked he did on Good Will Hunting as a best supporting actor but I didn't like that movie so I pretend he got the award for his acting in this movie instead. I think this is his best acting and also his best over all movie (maybe this shared with Dead Poets Society).

He plays an army radio DJ who goes to Vietnam to entertain the troops because he is so fun and well liked. His show ends up being a hit but he rubs all his superiors the wrong way by making fun of them and Richard Nixon and doing funny characters on the air as well as breaking all kinds of rules.

I won't spoil the ending but if you haven't seen this check it out because it's a very funny movie but also can be very touching.

This Movie Sucks! (2010– )
9/10
Very Good
27 August 2010
This is a very good show!

As a Hamilton born and bred girl I grew up watching the classic shows on CHCH like Smith and Smith Comedy Mill and then Red Green and I still remember all those great campy Hilarious House of Frightenstein episodes that I am lucky to have found DVDs of in a pawn shop this summer.

This Movie Sucks is in the same tradition of great Canadian comedy shows that are great even though they have a small budget and are not in a very big city. In fact they are throwing the small budget right back in our face and reference it all the time with Ed saying how they don't have money to do things.

I love this show especially compared to how bigger budget Canadian shows try too hard to be American style with more money and just fail miserably (I can't begin to describe how much I don't like a lot of Canadian TV) so this show is a breath of fresh air.

I won't give it full marks cuz it is walking in the footsteps of one of my other fave low budget shows Mystery Science Theater but it is unique in its own way. I see others say this show got better since it started, not sure how many episodes I missed but I have seen four weeks straight and the quality seemed consistently good to me, maybe I missed some bad ones to start.

Perfect!

Hilarious House of Frightenstein was a perfect show!

I love classic low budget Canadian shows that were still great. Even though they had little money to spend on their productions they made great shows because they obviously really cared, and this show for kids is maybe the best example of that.

Billy Van was a true talent who played most of the characters himself but it played them differently enough that it wasn't annoying and they actually seemed like different people. The characters and skits were very creative and fun and also educational pieces were shown for the value of the children.

I am lucky to have found some DVDs of this show at the pawn shop this summer and the shows are just as great as I remember them.

Great, campy fun! That's how I would describe it. To think it was made right in my home town of Hamilton at CHCH where so many other great shows (Smith and Smith Comedy Mill) were made and they continue making good shows today (This Movie Sucks) that are Canadian and proudly low budget despite their good quality. I still can't believe they had Vincent Price! That is so awesome.

The Critic (1994–2001)

Very Good

The Critic was a very good show!

I was so sad when it was taken off the air because I was a big fan of it and it was one of the very few shows I looked forward to seeing every single week. I am a Canadian and I try to watch Canadian TV but a few shows have come along like The Critic and The Simpsons that I thought were very good and just had to watch. Plus a lot of Canadian TV stinks so if there's nothing to watch (which happens sometimes, seems to be happening more often the last few years but that's how it goes) I'll try the U.S. stations.

Jon Lovitz was great as The Critic, a fat balding slobby guy who is trying to raise his likewise fat slobby son in New York City. His mother was very domineering and his dad was crazy. His boss was a take on Ted Turner, a network owning, southerner lunatic who only cared about his bottom line.

I'm sad it didn't last longer but got the DVD box set for Christmas and still haven't gotten tired of them.

Hiccups (2010–2011)
2/10
Unfunny
27 August 2010
This show just isn't funny.

I liked the first two seasons of Corner Gas but after that the show just seemed to repeat itself. It was of course a huge success though so no surprise that they are putting those people into some new shows, namely Hiccups and Dan for Mayor.

The problem with Dan For Mayor is that we are getting the exact same tired character of Hank, he is absolutely the same stupid character with the same act, delivery, etc.

The problem with Hiccups is bigger in that the story isn't funny, the characters aren't funny and the scripts are really really NOT funny. This show is painfully bad. I have tried and tried and still have only got through one episode all the way through.

Both shows are bad but Hiccups is definitely worse. Brent Butt made a huge mistake making this show and it needs to go the way of the Dodo.

Dan for Mayor (2010– )

Terrible
27 August 2010
This show is terrible. The acting is awful and the jokes are very bad.

It is better than Hiccups because at least the story of Dan For Mayor seems on the surface like it would be interesting but there is nothing worth while about this show.

First of all, Corner Gas was good for a couple seasons then went downhill real fast and just because a rehash of the same jokes and stories again and again. So it's kind of annoying that they immediately spun it off and gave the guy who played Hank his own show....where he STILL plays Hank! Seriously there is absolutely no difference between the characters in Corner Gas and Dan For Mayor. What is even the point of changing shows?

The jokes are predictable and unfunny, I will not watch again and I'm not happy that based on the success of Corner Gas this show and Hiccups are both coming back.....why?!?!

Bad
27 August 2010
This show is bad.

I have to write ten lines so what else could I say about this show other than simply that it is bad.........

Hmmm.........

It is really stupid how the actors have fake tans and then they say "take it away steve" and then they cut to the other guy and it is still the same guy. Is that supposed to be funny cuz it just looks like they can't afford another actor to play that character in the other scene so the same guy did it.

Ten lines yet??

This show isn't funny or entertaining at all in fact it is incredibly unfunny so how is it on a network NAMED comedy?

Bad show!

The Sopranos (1999–2007)

Great Television
17 August 2009
The Sopranos is great television. I haven't had cable until recently so I didn't see it until recently when a friend let me borrow her DVD box sets, so now I have seen seasons one through season four.

This show has some great performances by great actors, they really fit their parts perfectly (for the most part) and whoever did the casting for this show sure did an incredible job, if they have casting awards I hope they won a few of them!!! Obviously this show is not for kids, it has a lot of swearing and some real in your face violence and gore as you would expect any R-rated gangster show to have, and also there is a lot of nudity in the show because the gangster's main hang out is a strip bar.

Popcultured (2005–2006)
1/10
Incomprehensibly Bad
9 August 2005
Bert Archer's review in Eye Magazine pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Popcultured is one of those shows that comes along once in a great while that is so incomprehensibly bad, you find yourself waiting for the camera to pan out revealing an appalled Jason Bateman watching it on his set as some sort of clever comment on the state of the TV nation. But no, this is a real show, with stand-up from Elvira Kurt as stale as that joke about her comically foreign mother thinking her daughter's Lebanese she told for the first decade of her career. The show's schtick -- what if the hosts of Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood just snapped one day and said exactly what they were thinking? -- falls flatter than Debra Messing as one unfit comic after another tries to deliver abysmal, uninsightful and fatally unengaged material with the sort of utter absence of screen presence you expect only from German accountants talking about the decline of the euro, and Ben Mulroney. Do these people actually watch TV? An incompetent show written by untalented writers, performed by embarrassingly inept comics. The funniest thing about the premiere episode was their guest, a guy who came in third or fourth in last year's Canadian Idol. Their second guest? Homunculus-about-town Shinan Govani. And that about wraps it up.

Popcultured is the worst show I have ever seen.
