Star Trek: Voyager: Extreme Risk (1998)
Good idea, made too short.
We see survivor's guilt and self-harm explored trough B'Elanna's behaviour and feelings. The idea for this is good, but in my opinion it should have happened over the course of multiple episodes. I understand the limits of episodic writing, but the way this is done makes it seem like there's an 'easy fix' for psychological trauma, simply by having a good conversation. You'd think that there was better psychiatric aid available in that time, but maybe it's also a bit limited due to the time it was written in. Overall it's a decent episode, I just wish it was drawn out more and/or referred back to.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Lovely return to the worlds of Tolkien
It's only been 3 episodes, but so far I love it. Everything is beautiful, well-produced and captivating. Don't listen to the review bombs of people who are offended that not everyone is white, it's definitely worth the watch! I first read the Lord of the Rings when I was 11 (and many times after), now as a 27 year old adult I feel transported back to those times of wonder and the beautiful universe Tolkien created. There are some nods to how Peter Jackson directed the original trilogy, but this is new and fresh. In my opinion in a good way! The characters are well done, the original lore is included, and we see some answers to questions the Lord of the Rings movies left us.
What If...?: What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger? (2021)
Awesome, loved it.
Beautiful animation, a good mix of humor, tragedy, heroes and war. I like that they kept things realistic, like the misogynistic mentality and the stupid general taking credit for everything. The characters are true to the way we know them from other Marvel depictions, and it's cool that it shows Steve's personality without being Captain America, but it's still very similar. Lots of references included, which is a lot of fun for Marvel fans. I would like to see more of this timeline!
Killer Ratings: The Accusation (2019)
Fantastic first episode
Great introduction to the documentary, absolutely reels you into the plot, and makes you want to watch more. Can't really say much more without possible spoilers, but it's definitely worth it to watch if you like crime documentaries.
